Lovely dinner for a birthday celebration. Highly recommend. Delicious fish appetizers and entrees.
As always, delicious, well- prepared fish, good wine and great service
Food was terrific. Interesting wine list. Learned about Greek wines from owner. All in all it was a great evening
I'm Greek and I can say that, although they don't strive to reproduce the exact traditional Greek dishes (rather, they add gourmet twists to those), they certainly manage to reproduce the flavors. We tried their Greek salad, sardines rolled in grape leaves, and two plates of grilled fish, and they were all excellent. Besides, the backyard were we sat was such a beautiful, calm spot for a summer night!
Had 7pm reservation, but had to wait over 20 minutes to be seated. It took over 10 minutes for waiter take drink order. Another 10 minutes to get drinks. Another 15 minutes for waiter come back to get food order. Food came out over 25 minutes. However, food was great.
This was an ok restaurant experience, but not great. The value was not good. The vegetarian restaurant week option was especially disappointing - 4 unremarkable falafel patties and a small scoop of quinoa. The salmon was good but the portion was small and there was only the same small scoop of quinoa as a vegetable. The waitress was fine but was clearly stressed by the number of tables she was working in the other room and we saw her only infrequently.
We sat in a room looking out to the patio. The chairs at at least 2 tables need to be recovered. Or replaced. They were terribly worn, cracked and peeling. Really does a disservice to your great food and most of your interior.
Went for restaurant week so we were limited to the prefix menu. All the seafood was fresh and nicely prepared but served with lame sides that didnt' go the meal. Mixed drinks are about 4 ounce and $15 and were terrible so I would suggest you stick to the wine list. Overall a fair experience. I wouldn't go again.
One of the very best bronzini I have ever had ... grilled with lemon and butter and deboned at the table
We were there for restaurant week!.great value,3courses for $35.we sat outside. I would not recommend it. I usually love sitting outside but the sound of the air conditioner compressor was an almost buzz. And the benches are not very comfortable.
The food ,however, was wonderful olive bread pudding with mushrooms, leeks and artichokes as an appetizer, yumm. Bronzino grille with a lovely sauce of olive oil, lemon and herbs was a perfect delicate complement to the fish. Chocolate mousse for dessert was divine!
Summer restaurant week - great value, excellent food
Awesome place. Great food, cocktails and service. Highly recommended!
We go to Black Olive every year for my birthday because the food, service and wine selection are the best in Baltimore. I cannot recommend Black Olive highly enough.
This is an absolutely outstanding restaurant for a date / business casual type meal. Outstanding food with unique twist on traditional Greek fare focusing on seafood. Service was excellent and ambiance in an old converted brick brownstone was great. Can't comment on the wine list as we weren't drinking that night. Get the grilled sardines and whole fish!
Came here for restaurant week! Loved the scallops as appetizer. Wanted to get the stuffed calamari but they were out of that. They were out of the savoury bread pudding which was a shame. Beautiful interior in a nice neighbourhood. My friend and I got the crab cake entree and the salmon, and both portions were very generous! The baklava ice cream and tiramisu to finish were also amazing. Complimentary bread was not bad, though I found the crust a little hard. Overall a very good place to come for restaurant week!
We had a wonderful evening! It was our first time there and everything was way above our expectations. The service was friendly and knowledgeable. The food was AWESOME, Maryland seafood with a Greek flair! The highlight of our dinner was when the owner himself, Dimitri, came and spoke with us at length. He answered all of our questions with patience and humor. I was completely done when I saw him filet a whole fish, using only spoons! We will definitely be back
Dimitri has put incredible love and care into this family restaurant. Ask to hear the story of the wine cellar.
Always a great meal!!
The three of us thoroughly enjoyed our food and waiter. Food was cooked perfectly and the innovative use of apple and fennel was masterful. I really appreciated filleting of my bronzini at table side. We will be back
This was my first visit and I took my daughter during Restaurant Week. We both enjoyed lunch very much! I plan to go back for their special lunches outside of Restaurant Week!
We enjoyed a wonderful lunch at The Black Olive. Our Greek salads with heirloom tomatoes we delicious and beautifully presented. Our entrees of grilled salmon and crab cakes were well-prepared and pleasing. We liked our baklava ice cream to finish the meal. Our server welcoming, friendly, and attentive. We look forward to returning.
We particularly like the Fells Point area of the Baltimore Inner Harbor area. Our favorite restaurant is the Black Olive, which we have gone to on several occasions. This time was to celebrate our anniversary. We have always had excellent meals as well as good service. The menu has been varied and the food of high quality.
Unfortunately, we tried Black Olive for the first time during Restaurant Week, which wasn't publicized before our arrival. The menu was limited. Our appetizers were fine (an heirloom tomato salad and a savory bread pudding), but the entrees were very disappointing--falafel was very dense and chewy; 'lump' crab cakes had lump meat on the exterior only, and were strangely served with a sweet apple salad. Service was disjointed--our drinks didn't arrive until after our entrees were served, and they were too strong. It seemed that there was some disruption in the staff--whether some were new in their roles or some had quit recently, they were obviously anxious. Too bad, since the menu posted online sounded very good.
This was by far one of the best dining experience. The chef was excellent and took great care of us. The best! Bravo!
Outstanding food! A great dining experience. Looking forward to returning for another great meal.
Of the 4 main dishes we ordered, three were , forth was shoddy; a street vendor would have done better.
Also, 'fresh sardines' does not come out of a tin.
Very good food, service was great.
The waitstaff was attentive however the outside seating was mosquito ridden. The waiter gave my wife repellent but it ruined our dining experience. My Manhattan cocktail was the size of a cordial and poorly made. The food was good but not excellent. Be careful on your way out. Steep step going back & forth. I hope these issues can be addressed.
The food was simple, fresh, and well cooked (i.e. typical Greek traditions). The fish prepared whole (head on) and filet table-side or you can opt to have it whole ( I did choose last opt); it was interesting and appreciated this form of cooking (whole fish) as it’s custom for Greek as well Mediterranean region. That said, the fish definitely maintain its freshness this way. We also tried octopus and sardines wrapped in grape leaf; both amazing especially octopus which is tricky to cook and has to be fresh; sardines were also fresh, not from can. The ambiance Mediterranean style, transformation of an old Baltimore Row House; we opt for outdoor sitting in the courtyard (little bit nostalgic of home). Would recommend and return without hesitation.
Beyond amazing! This restaurant took us back to Santorini!!
Authentic, rustic, beautiful and tasty food. Superior service at this family owned Greek restaurant.
We had a delicious dinner here for our anniversary. The food was simple and imaginative, service was excellent. We enjoyed the savory bread pudding and a simple salad, followed by Rockfish and Mediterranean sea bass. All prepared simply, and perfectly. Attentive service, nice ambiance. Will definitely return.
Black Olive is a in small, unassuming storefront within walking distance of Baltimore's inner harbor. It is a Mediterranean themed menu, and many items are char-grilled. My wife and I opted for a series of small plates rather than full meals. The seafood presented was exquisitely fresh. Of special note, the crabcake was the best I've ever had. That is saying a lot! It was grilled, leaving a crisp char on the outside. It also removed a lot of moisture which enhanced the sweet brininess of the crab. The "Black Olive Special Grill" is a platter of different grilled seafoods. A must have, absolutely fresh and delicious. Our server, Shoshanna was wonderful and attentive and her timing presenting the various small plates allowed us time to savor each one. The manager came over to greet us and we spoke for a while - she was gracious and very interested in our opinions of our experience there. We'll be back!
This was our second time coming to Black Olive. The first time we ate outdoors and loved the small protected courtyard they have for outdoor dining. This time the heat was oppressive and we ate indoors. The indoor seating was comfortable and service fantastic. The fresh seafood is prepared to perfection! We were there on the early side (5-6 PM) so don't know if the dining room gets noisier with more people, but it was quiet, romantic, and a beautiful setting to celebrate my Birthday.
Fabulous price fixed lunch. Amazing food, great atmosphere and superlative service. Love it.
The food and experience was absolutely great!!!! Highly recommend the whole fish.
One of the best Mediterranean restaurants I have been. Great selection of fresh fish and mezes.
Food was excellent. Cocktails were disappointing. One tasted like pure lemon juice. Service was laid back to a fault. Someone in our party never even got a cocktail before finishing the entrée. All in all, would likely not return given the other options in Baltimore. Unfortunate because the food was excellent.
Black Olive is one of our favorite restaurants in Baltimore! The atmosphere is quiet and relaxed and the service if outstanding.
Food very tasty. One of the most pleasant interiors of any restaurant I have been to in Baltimore. Staff is very pleasant without being intrusive. The prices are a bit high, and I was disappointed to learn they charged $14 for two bottles of sparkling water.
