I went for Restaurant Week dinner. I upgraded to have the crab meets Maine Lobster bisque and dover sole. I also tried a white Greek wine. I ate at the bar.
Very good place would totally recommend
Staff lunch for Baltimore Restaurant Week. There were good menu choices for lunch, which is why I chose Black Olive. We were all able to chose something different. Portions were ridiculously small. Grilled octopus was cooked perfectly, which is always a difficult feat. The falafels were good, not greasy. One, however, was hard like it had been reheated in the microwave. Would go back at another time to try other items, not during restaurant week.
Very expensive. It was restaurant week. Supposedly to have fixed menú for fixed price. For more than half Ot the dishes you had to pay an additional 7 to 20$. This is dishonest way to get more money from people. On top of everything portions were very small. I hate to be tricked like this. Shame on you restaurant owner. Will never come back.
NEVER again during Restaurant Week! maybe again during normal operation hours. service was poor, and the portions were very tiny and the quality was much worse than normal.
Very good service.
Menu limited for restaurant week.
First time at restaurant.
We will go back.
First time dining at Black Olive, certainly won’t be my last time. Visited during Baltimore’s Restaurant week, so slightly limited menu, but everything I ate was excellent!
The evening was wonderful. The food was great. Service was attentive. Hugh wine list.
We went for restaurant week, so there was only the restaurant week menu, but all three courses were delicious, we started with the Greek sale and lamb meatballs, the salad vegetables were extremely fresh, and had very little seasoning to take away from the taste of the vegetables and the feta was smooth and creamy. For our main course, I had the crab cakes Andy husband had the crusted rockfish. The rockfish melted in your mouth with a perfect crunchy crust. And for dessert, the baklava ice cream was perfect for my cinnamon loving husband, and I had the chocolate mousse which was perfect. As BB good as we remember from our last visit years ago. Will definitely be back.
Always a pleasure to dine at this fine restaurant when I am in Baltimore for business
Be sure to make reservations!
The Lamb meatballs were uninspiring and the a steak from Texas Roadhouse has better flavor then the fillet minion.
Service was wonderful.
Great place for special occasions.
New Year Eve menu was soo good!
We choose Lobster and seafood combination as the main dishes. It was delicious.
Appetizers and soup gave us a home atmosphere from my childhood.
The wine list has soo much variety.
We strongly recommend this restaurant for special occasions.
Outstanding food, outstanding service... very high quality. New Years menu was fabulous. Love this restaurant!
We have eaten here 3 times and have had an awesome experience every time. Great cocktails, awesome food and a super staff. Highly recommend eating here.
Love this place. One of our go-to restaurants for special occasions.
Nice ambience. Good food and service. Would recommend.
Everything was scrumptious! Great service. They even turned up heat because i was chilly.
Had a wonderful birthday dinner here with my wife. Started with cocktails, 1 Manhattan and 1 cosmo. Both very good and served in very cool glasses. The grilled octopus salad is amazing, best I have ever had. Make sure you soak up the sauce with the warm olive bread. For dinner we had the Lobster Fra Diablo and a grilled whole fish (Dorade Royals). Both were excellent. The staff is wonderful and I highly recommended The Black Olive. They have a very nice wine cellar for private party dinners!
Excellent service! Our server Darryl was extremely friendly and professional. The fish tour was really nice and all the fish we had were delicious. Definitely would go again if I come to Baltimore.
Good, but not quite up to the raves I’d heard going in. Small plates were far superior to the entries.
Used to love this restaurant and have been many times. However, the last two times we were there it has really gone downhill. The service is kind but not trained well. The bartender (if you can call him that) does not know how to properly make drinks. There are fruit flies all over the restaurant. It just isn't what it used to be. So sad.
My Wife and I were celebrating our Wedding Anniversary the night that we dined at The Black Olive. What an amazing night!
Absolutely delicious food!
I had read raving reviews about this place but I don’t think I will go back. The server was terrible quite frankly. He was long winded in explanation at first but then not really very fast about checking back in. We ordered wine which as he poured was spilled all over the table. He dropped silverware as he cleared and in general seemed very clumsy. He cleared silverware before entree’s came out and then we had to ask for more silverware. Just not a very great experience for a date.
The food was awesome. Great service and nice atmosphere. Will go again soon
Seated, no one appeared for 15 minutes. $18.00 for three scallops, we asked for a fourth as there were four of us. They charged us $6.00 extra. We ordered scallops, chicken, bread pudding, pie And two salads. Most everything was served with mixed greens out of a bag. The scallops, chicken and salad were good, not great. Everything else was mediocre. It was very disappointing. We had to ask a busser for one salad that we did not receive. Apparently our waiter was new, he had no support that we could see and his other tables were in another room. He forgot about us. They say a large loud party next to us and it was hard to hear each other. We won’t be back
My date and I enjoy the Black Olive but it is a bit pricey and Saturday night our server was not very professional. We like to order a couple appetizers and share a main course. One appetizer said “roasted red peppers and feta cheese”, so we expected sliced roasted peppers with chunks of feta. Instead we got a pile of goop, ground up peppers and cheese- it was tasty enough, but did not look appetizing at all and not what we expected. The savory bread pudding appetizer was unique and very good, as was the fish and shellfish stew we ordered for an entre. The server had to fumble through the wine list to find his suggested wine, and provided no help on the menu. Finally, I have a thing about being presented the bill before the table is cleared. Am I alone on this? If I were having dessert or coffee, they would clear the table first, right? Why do I not deserve that courtesy if I am not having dessert?
Anyway, we will go back to the Black Olive since we live in the neighborhood, but we will ask more menu questions, and more clearly guide our server.
Black Olive is a lovely restaurant. We sat at the bar, but the service was no less attentive. The hostess was efficient; Shoshanna at the bar was helpful, knowledgeable and kind. The food was amazing! Authentic and delicious. We had the Black Olive VIP seafood platter and an additional order of the stuffed calamari. Goodness worth the $.
With several new menu items, and the best service i've experienced there since the late 1990s, Dimitris Spiliadis has taken his family's fish taverna to new heights. There's no nonsense here – just simple, thoughtful, Hellenic food, wine, and hospitality
I haven’t had the pleasure of dinning at Black Olive for over 5 years because my travel to Baltimore is now infrequent. It didn’t seem that long after I sat down because the ambiance, service and food are just as good if not even better. Fresh whole fish is not largely available in most restaurants but at Black Olive it’s an everyday specialty always with multiple choices of fresh fish. An added feature is you can choose your fish yourself from their fish table. Two of us shared a large whole black bass cooked like Branzino. It was perfectly prepared. The appetizers were all tasty. I introduced 2 business colleagues to the Black Olive and they now love it too.
Love this restaurant!!!
Had a wonderful evening. The experience was excellent!!
I remember going o Black Olive many years ago and it being a wonderful night out. Now the place is tired and feels like no effort is put into making it a special night. No pita bread for the Hummus appetizer platter. The fish in the case looked okay, Not exciting, and our company ordered the Tuna and it looked horrible.
Very subpar now. Time to close
It was great to come back to Baltimore and find the Black Olive still there. A nostalgic and reliable place to catch up with former colleagues/friends over plates of good food. The toasted bread was a real standout, btw.
Very nice menu and well prepared food. The fish was excellent. Our reservation was moved an hour later with less than 24 hours notice to accommodate another event. That was something that has never happened before.
The WORST dining experience in Baltimore. Poor service, disorganized management and kitchen. Had to ask for everything (including tableware) three or four times. This place used to be a gem. Now a complete waste of time and money.
Had the Stuffed calamari + sardines in grape leaves appetizers and the branzino, filleted tableside, all were served hot and were outstanding. Best seafood at a local Baltimore restaurant I've had this year. Great meal(!) + excellent service from Carl! Thank you!
Still a great place for a wonderful piece of fish and many other Greek additions to the menu. Put this one on your list.
We attended the Willamette Valley wine dinner. it was exceptional! Look out for their wine tastings and get the one you will not be disappointed!
Another great meal at one of our favorites for special occasions.
