Black Olive Ratings and Reviews
It was very busy when we arrived and the host was abrupt when welcoming us while telling others that had arrived that they wouldn't be served unless they had reservations. Not very inviting or pleasant. Our waitress was terrible. Absolutely no personality. Hardly spoke to us and we are nice, friendly people. Handed us our food instead of placing it in front of us. The food was excellent. When leaving we walked out without anyone saying good bye or seeing if we enjoyed our meal. Or thanking us for visiting their restaurant.
Delicious Greek food...dined with a Greek friend from out of town..very impressed with the quality, taste and quantity of food. We love the Black Olive...esp. enjoyed the grilled appetizer special (haloumi and lamb chops, etc.) as well as the grilled seafood with orzo/ spinach. Yum!
My friends and I (3 couples), try to have dinner out at least once a month at a different place each time. We had a FABULOUS time!. I am a Celiac and they we very good at accommodating my needs. Our waitres, Natasha was wonderful. This is a GREAT fine and we will be returning. Oh and it's a BYO!
Thank you for a wonderful meal.
Excellent authentic Greek dishes.....1st time dining so we ordered a delicious variety of appetizers that work well as small plates. On the negative side our server had no knowledge of what ingredients or preparation involved for any of the dishes we ordered. We had to get menu advice from the host
We enjoyed a fabulous meal at Black Olive! The food is authentic and the service is impeccable. Dino was a perfect host-he was attentive and wanted us to have the best dining experience possible. We would rate our dinner a 10! We can't wait to return and have another perfect dinner! Kudos to the entire staff!
Great food and attentive service. Excellent choice of apps and entrees. Something for everyone. I am not a big Greek food eater like my wife but I always find something that I really enjoy when we go. A plus is --- Its a BYO. Tables seem a little small for 4 people but it works.
Fabulous greek food. Had 3 great fish dishes on special and they were huge and delicious. We had a grilled mix appetizer that really hit the spot and the lamb chops were great. The prices are very reasonable. It's open seating and not much to look at but the chairs were comfortable and the food is the reason to go. It's BYO and they were ready for me.
We made a reservation through Open Table (we had eaten at Black Olive twice before and loved the food) and arrived to find there was a 20 to 25 minute wait because "we had so many people make reservations". I thought making a reservation 'reserved' a table for you?! Very disappointed. They told us to wait outside and it was a hot night, too!
thi restaurant continues to strive and achieve excellence, always consistent, value driven and excellent Greek cuisine. the gyro platter remains one of the most flavorful and delicious meals that i have had in a greek restaurant
kudos continues to be well deserved
Met with some friends from Philly. They weren't really into Greek food, but they were happy to find a chicken dish that they enjoyed. Wait staff and manager were extremely attentive. My leg of lamb was okay, but not my favorite. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her fish. Like byob option. We had a pleasant evening and will return.
Food is fair Greek style. Hummus had a bite to it. Bitter side. Maube too much lemon. Had better. Chicken sauted breast was chicken strips not a breast. Taste was ok. Drowned with overcooked green beans.
The gyro was good.
The upcharge of $3.50 for a greek salad instead of house salad was steep for the salad. Pile of chopped romaine drowned in dressing.
Country greek salad was $10. Combination of chopped tomato cucumbers feta was good.
If it weren't for an after movie dinner which was convenient I'd not bother
We went for Farm to fork week for the SJHOT CHEFS.
I enjoy Greek food and I was told the food was excellent.
I felt as if each and every course was authentic and the portion size was just as if we were ordering off the regular menu. Save room for dessert.
I will definitely return.
After seeing Dunkirk (good, by the way), we walked to this "new to us" Greek restaurant.
Participating in Farm To Fork, this a logical choice, due to close proximity to the theater.
We stopped at the car to pick up our 🍷, keeping it chilled in a cooler. Upon entering, we were greeted warmly as I stated we had an Open Table reservation.
Four courses for $25 seemed a bargain. The appetizer , followed by a tasty salad, kept our attention. My husband, being English, chose a lamb dish & enjoyed it. My fish was underwhelming. In fact, it seemed unfinished. It covered overdone veggies.
Baklava provided a sweet end to our meal.
The noise level was extremely loud.
Not sure we'll return although, wanted to add, a very attentive wait staff.
The food here is always excellent and since we dined during a special restaurant week, it was definitely a great value, although you usually get large portions for a reasonable price on their regular menu as well. Their Moussaka and Spanokopita are definite favorites; in fact, they do all of the classic Greek dishes very well. Our server seemed a little overwhelmed, especially as it got more crowded, but she was certainly very pleasant and all the food came out hot so no complaints there. Also, it's a BYOB which I think is great because who wants to spend $60 on a bottle of wine you know you can buy for $20 or less at your local liquor store. So go; eat; drink; enjoy!
We have been wanting to try Black Olive for some time now. This restaurant did not disappoint. The food was served hot, presented well and tasted authentically Greek. We had the spanikopita and the red pepper stuffed with goat cheese for appetizers. Both were good but the red pepper was an excellent choice. You won't want to share this. I had the pastichio for an entree while my friends ordered roasted leg of lamb and the broiled seafood. All were delicious. We all got dessert and all were outstanding. I had the special dessert which was grilled peaches with ice cream. Don't miss this neighborhood gem.
Ladies Night out and enjoyed the smaller cozy atmosphere. We were given time to order and with one of us late, was able to get her meal ordered and ready so she was able to enjoy it without a long wait. The Moussaka was good but a little bland. I also enjoyed the Salmon Soup but too it needed a bit of lemon or seasoning. My friends all seemed very happy with their meals. The on the table bread was a bit dry and almost stale tasting and there was little flavor. Next time Pitas and Hummus!
