Hopefully they were just off their game tonight and it’s not always like this. Long wait after being seated to have any contact. Server disappears, seems unengaged. Finally get order taken. Drink order omitted completely. Steak cold. Error on bill. This was the only bad experience in telluride, dining or otherwise.
We had a wonderful Friday night experience here! Attentive waitress and great food / drinks. Solo singer/guitar player made for fun evening. We had roasted cauliflower, bass, salmon & filet. We all loved our meals. Highly recommend the filet. We came here last year and didn’t have greatest experience with wait staff, but completely different dining experience this time.
Always great food and service
Our server was totally inatentative and menu that was provided to us for dining did not match website where I made the reservation.
Would not recommend this restaurant
My grandson and I came in for dinner after a skiing competition. Excellent food and friendly efficient service. Great place to celebrate.
Nice place with great outdoor seating with firepits at the tables. Nice menu with healthy options and good kids menu as well. Good food. Also nice bar.
Pleasant place, food was okay but not over the top. Nice live guitar music that didn't interrupt conversation. Waiter at first amusing but then interruptive with things like " I like your watch" or being nosy about the heritage of one of our group or bullying one couple onto a bottle of wine when they only wanted a glass. Then he disappeared to wait on other tables. One of our party sent her steak back because it was rarer than she wanted and we had all finished our dinners before she got it back. The manager started waiting on us and he was delightful and comped her dessert. Half of the table was cleared and half waited a while after that. Just little things but they add up to no desire to return. Oh, nice outside seating with open fires for warmth. Would go there for drinks and apps.
We had a very nice dinner with friends for Valentines Day. Good foo, good service and good friends in the Mountain Village.
great new menu; excellent chef; very good service. Unfortunately, the hotel has placed all of this in what used to be its casual dining room and has turned the more formal room into a lounge with a limited menu. The result is an upscale menu being served in a room full of screaming children who are running around as if they are in a McDonalds. Not a great combination for what should be a better overall experience
Great service and food quality
Disappointed that this is no longer a family-friendly restaurant. Menu is too esoteric for the ski resort it serves. Won’t be going back during my 4 more weeks in Telluride
This was way too expensive for what we have experienced before at this restaurant. Kids menu was crazy expensive. We will not go back.
When our friends came into town, we wanted to celebrate and treat them to some of Mountain Village's most innovative food. The new chef and menu at Black Iron are wonderful and inventive. Try the Cauliflower Hush Puppies - a perfect starter. Our party had everything from the gumbo to the half chicken to the ribeye - all were spot on. And drinks? Great selection of beers and creative cocktails - finish up your meal with a Flatliner!
Note - our server, Terrence, was PERFECTION. Attentive but not intrusive, fun, funny, and truly invested in us enjoying our time. We will be back!
Cozy with excellent food and service. Unique flavors applied to classic dishes and some dishes that were beyond my imagination. e.g. Cauliflower Hush Puppies.
The Black Iron is a decent stop -- though expensive -- for a lunch bite but our dinner here was terrible. Two people in my party had lukewarm food, and my steak was full of gristle and for the price charged it was a terrible cut of meat. I would expect more from a fine dining establishment. Service was sub-par for the price point. The hostesses were more attentive than the servers. Not sure I'd eat here for dinner again.
My husband and I made reservations at this restaurant to host a brunch for my family to before our daughter's afternoon wedding. Our family members had flown in from Connecticut and Florida. after making the reservations, I placed a call to the restaurant and was assured that the brunch was set up to offer several options for people to chose from. The brunch turned out to be a menu with various choices on it. Many of the food choices offered were seasoned with hot spices and were too hot to enjoy. The food was not delivered in a timely fashion and when it was delivered, some orders were missing food items or a totally different order was given. The staff did not seem to have their act together and the service was poor. We will not go back this restaurant again.
Food quality has slipped over the past 6 months. WE are long-time customers and woud not plan to return without a mneu update and food quality impovement.
We were a party of 5 adults and 2 children (ages 11 and 13). We did not have a good experience at Black Iron. We were seated for quite a while before a waiter even came to our table. He took our orders and then disappeared. We had to flag down others of the waitstaff to bring us water. When one of the children's steak dishes was undercooked, we asked that it be put back on the grill. The waiter who took it to the kitchen never returned. Finally, when we were all finished and preparing to leave, another waiter came with the steak, much too late. We will not return to Black Iron - - very poor service and only mediocre food.
It's right in the heart of Mountain Village and has a great ambiance. Out of the restaurants we at at in Mountain Village and Telluride the service was the best here. The food was good, but it was fun to sit outside with all of the fire pits going.
There were two of us, my finance and I. She ordered Fish & Chip and I ordered the Salmon. The waiter repeated both orders out load as he wrote them down. When they brought the entrees, her order was incorrect (chicken instead of fish & chips). I sent my order back as well while they corrected the mistake so that we could dine together.
Both entrees were good. However, while the Fish & Chips was an appropriate portion, my salmon entree was very small. The salmon was about the size of a deck of cards and it was sitting on top of a rice patty. Bottom line, I was hungry after dinner. To top things off, I had to flag another wait staff down to get my check after waiting an inappropriate amount of time after completing our meal. While the food was good, the real value of this restaurant is its proximity to the Hotel.
Don't expect much when dining here. Our server was pretty authoritative and rushed us to get our entire order even though half our table hadn't even ordered drinks yet and we wanted appetizers. Food was mediocre. As a server in the industry, I couldn't get over how rushed we felt and overheard our server talking to a co-worker about how we were "easy money" because we were a 7 top with auto-gratuity (he was within one foot of our table when he loudly said this). The energy felt chaotic from the start despite it being half empty in there on a Saturday night. I'd recommend this place if you just want drinks and a snack on the patio in front of the fire, but don't expect a relaxing sit-down dinner as a group.
Wonderful!!
It was horrible. We will never go back. The service was ridiculously slow, out of many menu items. I could go on, instead I will caution you to never go to this restaurant.
Awful!!!! We waited an hour and a half without receiving our food!!!
Hostess was rude
We left without eating
They should be ashamed of themselves!
No way to run a restaurant!!
Quite disappointed. Our server was fair the time to prepare the food when not crowded was ridiculously long, and the food quality was fair at best. My vegetarian tacos were so over cooked that the hardened cheese on the tortilla was truly scorched black and the potatoes were hard as rocks, totally inedible. My daughters grilled cheese was served in a scorching hot dish but the sandwich was cold and the cheese barely melted. We sent it back. My husbands carnitas tacos barely had meat in them. The only dish of quality was my sons pasta with marinara. Server was slow and would disappear. She also didn't know her bar menu. Sorely disappointed.
My child and I had a great dinner! Live music added to the experience. Good service, drinks and food in the Village. Prices are fair. Try the fish tacos!
I have never written a negative report before, but we had such a poor experience I feel compelled to for the first time. We were there with kids and ordered as quickly as possible. Our kids kept saying they were starving, and when the food came out after more than 45 minutes, instead of apologizing, the waitstaff and management argued with us as though they were trying to win a legal battle, instead of simply apologizing and trying to make the situation better.
Decent menu, but ordinary presentation and taste. Ok for a quiet sit down noiseless dinner. I would go back if I had to.
Would not recommend this restaurant. All hype no taste or service.
Seated about the 4th table when they opened for dinner, and took 15 minutes until anyone came over. Ordered a salad which was inedible since the beets were GUMMY. Never had beets of that texture in my life, disgusting. Portabella mushroom sandwich was one of the worst I have had anywhere. I won't go on. There was nothing positive about our experience, which including a screaming child in a stroller in the table next to us. Considering this place is associated with what is considered one of the most high end hotels in Mountain Village, all I can say as a Telluride local is STAY IN TOWN and spend your well earned money at one of our better restaurants. Waste of a gondola ride....won't be back.
Great location, decent food. Somewhat limited menu but overall a good time.
Great place in mountain village. We ordered a well priced bottle of Caymus cab and got a pleasent surprise when the bottle was one liter! The food was excellent and great service.
We had great birthday celebration watching the super bowl as a band of UK visitors. Black Iron fitted the mood exactly , the waitress was very sweet and incredibly helpful (Mona LIsa). The food was American slightly off the wall which we loved.
We had a group of seven for this casual evening with a super guitar soloist. The food was casual and edgy🍻🌮🥘🍔🥓🍢🍝
Nothing special but good quality. Live music makes it nice.
Out of a lot of items on menu
Forever to get food
Food returned for not cooked properly and terrible or wrong item ordered.
Manager nice but chef inept
Out of numerous items food wise, out of corona beer, wine overpriced.
Enjoyed our service and meal. The place is very energetic
It's more bar not a kitchen.
Chill spot to go for a bite to eat
