Black Horse Tavern & Grill Ratings and Reviews
It was New Year’s Eve and we wanted a good steak before going to Pasadena on New Year’s Day. Our dinner was mixed up and bar service slow. They even ran out of prime rib before 8 pm?? The meat my husband was overcooked but there was no more prime rib to bring a new piece. Not a good experience at all!
Went here prior to attending the rodeo in Norco. Was looking for a steakhouse. Blackhorse fit the bill, and I had a good hanger steak with some barbecued ribs. For an appetizer we had beer battered onion petals, sort of a takeoff of the well known blooming onion. The steak was good and the ribs ok. Also had potato croquettes. They were fair and I'd try something else next time.
My partners had chili size (ok) and fish tacos (Good).
Service was friendly and good. We ended up with a lot of leftovers.
Tavern atmosphere was typical with a lot of wood construction. I'd visit again.
Arrived at reservation time to see a busy restaurant, a few people waiting for tables and hostess does not have our reservation. Hostess then asks if it was made online, to which I reply "yes", and she says that they have to manually transfer those onto their book and apparently it was missed. She requested a few minutes to get a table ready and we were seated within 10 minutes, ahead of others waiting.
This was a good start, downhill from there in terms of service. Waited a while to see our server, even longer for drinks and the food took forever.
Now for the good - the menu had good variety, with some creative dishes and was good for the most part. And since this was Mother's Day, I give the place some slack for where it missed and would try it again.
It isn't the restaurant we are unhappy with but rather Open Table. It does not work!! We arrived and were told we didn't have a reservation. Very unhappy with your App. Deleted it from all of our phones and will be calling the restaurant directly next time.
A friend and I stopped by to enjoy a good lunch and we weren't disappointed. The restaurant wasn't crowded and we were seated immediately. It took a while for our drinks to arrive. Both of us had the blackened salmon and it was delicious. The restaurant has a neighborhood vibe like the television series "Cheers." The staff was courteous and very accommodating.
Fine for a quick meal but nothing special. We were driving through at dinner hour and we found this place on Open Table - won't eat here again. Our waitress was very friendly but food was average at best.
I had the steak dinner... steak was tough, flavorless and over cooked. My husband had the Philly steak sandwich- and it was fine but not great.
It was our first time and we were pleased. It's basically a bar menu and prices are reasonable. Cost of bar drinks was high considering the pour and place. I ordered wine and it was pretty watered down but the cost was still high. The service was very good. A nice neighborhood place to go to watch a game and eat. Do not expect fine dining or high end steak house.
This is an awesome little place with a nice bar in the middle for an after work drink or happy hour with friends. The food is great. Their signature hanger steak was cooked perfectly and you'd have to try their mashed potatoes and gravy. Best I've had in some time. The shrimp was my favorite. Its a little over my normal budget but its a lot of food so we split the entre. I would go back again.
3 of our 4 meals were good-- the chili and burgers were solid. We tried to order the King cut 20 oz prime rib, but we're told they only had two 14 oz cuts left. Several minutes after ordering the 14oz cut, we were told they no longer had ANY prime rib-- so basically they didn't put in our order when we made it (else we would've gotten one of those two remaining 14oz cuts). So we opted for the ribeye, which was about half gristle. The staff was friendly, but clearly lacking in the skills to overcome their operational shortcomings.
Excellent environment for casual or business meetings. I really liked how friendly the staff was to me and my friends. One thing I paid attention to was my food. I eat my steak rear and it was cooked to perfection. The cornbread was delicious.
I would highly recommend this place for a great hangout to business friendly meetings. Prices are pocketing friendly for the amount of food you get.
This is really more like a sports bar than a dining restaurant so keep your expectations in line. Nevertheless, the service is very good, the food (we were there for Taco Tuesday) was good although we did not try anything else. Big bar and TV's all around (I did say it was more a sports bar). Worth a try if you want a casual lunch or dinner out.
Black Horse was fantastic - when the graduate walked in with her full regalia on - the folks in the restaurant all clapped (total strangers) making us feel welcomed. The food was great the service was good. We happened to have 4 little kids a set of 3 yr old twins, a 2 yr old and an 8 yr old. Everyone was comfortable and ate well!.
We ate at Black Horse Tavern two nights in a row while in town. Both meals were delicious and fairly priced. The portions were generous! Our waitresses both nights were delightful.
We will definitely go back. We have noted that when we ask a "local" for a recommendation for a good place for dinner Black Horse Tavern is the first one mentioned.
We were very impressed with the food and atmosphere at the Black Horse Tavern and Grill. We were able to make a reservation ahead of time on open table and it was very accomodating of our children as well. Would definitely go back again the next time we are in the area.
I made the reservation here as I had been before and I loved it. My husband went with me for my Birthday dinner. I loved what I ordered The Prime Rib Dip but my husbands burger (BBQ Western) was very dry and didn't have much BBQ sauce. I quickly got him some Mayo and additional BBQ sauce but he didn't even eat 1/2 of it. He did say that the meat was cook well but it too was a little dry. He did also order a Carne Asada taco to go and said that the taco was very good. I recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for a good quick inexpensive place to eat.
