Black Forest Inn Ratings and Reviews
The place was packed and had several LARGE parties (10+), but even so we ended up sitting and waiting for the waitress for awhile to order. Then waited for a LONG while for the food and then the young man and woman busing the table had cleared it, gave us dessert menus which we didn't want and still we sat waiting for a chance to ask our waitress for the check.
Everyone was extremely nice and friendly, but if you are in a hurry this isn't the option for dinner.
If you don't mind a leisurely meal or you have a group that likes to talk and you won't notice the time, the food is great and atmosphere is nice.
Was a very long time since going to The Black Forest. I wanted to go with the family and get a taste of our heritage. I had purchased gift certificates as Christmas presents. We all enjoyed the food. The server was excellent. I believe I will be repeating this and making a new tradition for my family.
I'm never disappointed when we go to the Black Forest. Went there recently with my husband and daughter. We each had a different entree (sea bass, filet mignon and the veal jagerschnitzel with the wine & mushroom sauce)and all were excellent. I also like that you can get a junior size portion entree - it leaves more room to try an appetizer and dessert! The cocktails are great and the wait staff is friendly and professional.
Whether we have a special occasion or we are simply in the mood for authentic german cuisine, Black Forest is our go to restaurant. The menu provides plenty of choices for the adventurous and the classic palate. The service staff works to accommodate your requests. There is a reason this restaurant has stood the test of time.
After making a reservation for Oktoberfest, we were greeted by the hostess and seated in a location which was not even close to the festivities, the bar. The service was rather poor for a restaurent with prices as high, for instance, the wrong dish was served, water was not refilled. This is the second visit within the past two months and the service was similar. The food was very tasty but should have been served with better attention to the service.
A reservation should be a reservation - not a 45 minute wait in a crowded lobby. If a restaurant is running that behind it should either reduce the number of available reservations or alert its patrons to the issue so they can plan accordingly. There was a sense of frustration in the air on both the patron and inn sides.
Now for the food, it was decent but plentiful. It came out quickly and is enough to share. The flavor could be amplified - needs more German infusion. Luckily, all of this was offset by the atmosphere of the fantastic Octoberfest band.
We have been going to The Black Forest Inn for many years. We have never seen it as crowded as it was on Saturday night. We waited for 10 minutes for the waitress to take a drink order, then waited at least 20 minutes for the drinks to arrive. Half way though our dinner we wanted another glass of wine but could not get our waitresses attention. I don't believe it was her fault, I think they just over booked and could not keep up with the volume.
We dined at the Black Forest Inn for Octoberfest. We've done this for many years and over the years brought friends with us. It has never been a disappointment. The food is great, German band was entertaining. The place was packed and yet the servers made you feel like the only one there. I can't say enough about this place.
Took my wife there for a nice night out. Food was excellent (we had been craving German good), service was great (the server was friendly and helpful) and atmosphere was OK. It was a spacious restaurant, but a little too spread out. Had an 8:00 reservation, showed up at 7:45, saw empty tables but was not sat until almost 8:15, not sure why. Would def recommend going there again.
A friend recommended this restaurant to us as one of their favorites and we were not disappointed. We were there on a Friday night and the place was packed for Oktoberfest. It serves German beers and also offer an optional buffet dinner (There is a regular menu also). I am normally not a fan of buffet, but the food at the buffet was very fresh as the cooking staff was constantly bring out small portions and there were many dishes to choose from which is great for someone like me who is not familiar with German dishes.
Overall, I love the restaurant and the food. Can't wait to go back again.
Being born in Germany, this place brought back great memories of my German hometown places to eat. This was my first visit to The Black Forest, reminds me of the Famous Hofbrauhaus that was the best place for German food in Atlantic Highlands,NJ. before the
owners retired and closed the place.
Overall the food was okay. One person had the sauerbraten which was good but she was disappointed in the dumpling. I tried the beef rouladen which sounded very appetizing as described by our waitress. However, it was not particularly tasty and a bit dry. I would not order it again. Another guest had a pork dish with a paprikash type sauce on top which was very good. The red cabbage was good but the spatzle was not too tasty. Our waitress was excellent and I would have rated the service higher if it were not for the fact that we, along with many others who had reservations, had to wait over 15 minutes on a Sunday night at 6 p.m. because tables weren't prepared. My group got a table in the bar area which was actually very enjoyable. It wasn't noisy and it was comfortable. There are many small alcoves which looked inviting but the larger room with the music appeared to be too noisy.
We have been to this restaurant many times during the past 15 years, but it seems now that they are losing control. It was packed in the lobby and the staff seemed confused as to why. We had a reservation, but they told us to go to the bar and when we looked around there were 2 tables empty for 2 people. We told the front desk and 20 minutes later, tables still empty and no one called our name. We had to go to the desk 3 times before they gave us a table. Then, no one came so that we could pay our bar tab. Our server was really good, but I don't think we will go back again when they have a special like Oktoberfest. Food was authentic, but very expensive.
The food was very good. It was up to their normal standards. The waitress was very friendly and helpful. The food arrived quickly and was served at the proper temperature. We were seated in the main dining room, the same area as the bar. As it filled up, it got quite noisy and made it difficult to hear my dining companions over the din.
That said, I look forward to going back again.
Without question, the food and service here are outstanding. We have never had a bad meal at the Black Forest Inn. You don't have to like German food to enjoy this place. Most times, we order salmon or filet mignon. If you like German food, got to try their schnitzels. Both chefs are trained in Europe and have an excellent reputation. Five stars across the board!!!!
Had 8pm reservations. Arrived at 7:50. Hostess sat us at the bar to wait for the table. I jokingly said, "Don't forget about us." 40 minutes later we asked if they forgot about us and they did. Sat at 8:30. 15 minutes later our waitress showed up asking if we were ready to order. This was after another waitress had asked us if our waitress had helped us yet. Forgotten again. I was ready to order, since I had already memorized the menu. My wife asked the waitress what she recommended as this was our first experience with German food. The waitress responded by saying she had another table that was ready to order so she would come back. 10 minutes later we saw our waitress again.
Food was blah, service was beyond terrible and though we will probably try German food again, it won't be from the Black Forest Inn.
The food was truly exceptional. My wife and I come here because you can always get a quality dinner. It's obvious that they use the finest ingredients. Got to try their salmon with dill sauce. For dessert, ask for the almond cookie cup with fruit and ice cream. Truly exceptional!!!
Every now and then it's fun to have an experience like dining at the Black Forest Inn. So much modern dining has an edge to it, down to the furniture and surfaces in the restaurant. The Black Forest Inn envelopes you in a soft warm embrace. Muted colors, carpet, padded furniture - why you can even enjoy conversation! Granted we were there for lunch and it was only moderately busy, but even so. Leave your calorie counter at home and bring your appetite. The potato & leek soup had just enough cream to make it velvety smooth. The rouladen were perfect with a side of spaetzle and red cabbage. Try as we might have, there was no room for dessert. Service was friendly and efficient. Empfehlenswert!
We have come here for years for birthdays, anniversaries, etc. The food is consistently delicious, beautifully presented, from appetizers to deserts. The place is spotless, nicely decorated and very comfortable. The menu is varied for everyone. Trained servers are attentive and friendly but not intrusive. Never a disappointment.
I have been dining at the Black Forest Inn for more than a quarter of a century. I have been there for lunch and for dinner. The food is consistently great! The owner, family members who work there, and waiters are friendly, helpful, and efficient.
Open Table is very helpful with reservations, since you do not have to look at the clock and make sure to call during open hours. Open Table facilitates the entire process.
i printed out the dinner menu and picked out what i wanted.the hoestess said that some of the things on the printed were not available. we requested gewurztraminer white wine and is not available .first time we went on a sat .night. it was packed, not an empty table in sight. we will be back for ocktoberfest. i beelonged to the recetion meetings at panther valley and we (26) of us are going sun oct 11 at 4:00.
Food was outstanding. Ample glass of wine and beer. Rolls and garlic toast served before dinner. We ordered the coconut shrimp as an appetizer and it was delicious. The jäger schnitzel with mushroom cream sauce was soooo good, just like I remember it from when I lived in Germany. Also the spatzel, potato dumpling and red cabbage were also great. The apple strudel for dessert was very good also. Service started off very attentive but deteriorated toward the end of our meal due to a private party (high school reunion) which tied up our waitress. We waited an excessive amount of time before she showed up to take our dessert order and then waited again excessively for it to be delivered. This was not her fault but management clearly overextended her serving both small group patrons and such a large group. This was a cloud on an otherwise excellent meal.
