Black Forest Inn Ratings and Reviews
Food was not good. Lobsters overcooked. Asked several times for new ones that were not overcooked but never received. Remaining entrees were not flavorful. Pasta was starchy and tasteless. Pork also overcooked and very salty. Crab cakes very salty. Ginger carrots and homemade blue cheese dressing were the highlights. For $45 per person before drinks, tax and tip, I was very dissatisfied.
The Black Forest Inn has been in the community for 30 plus years. It offers a variety of German dishes and a few American dishes, all with superb taste. It has won numerous awards - all which can be viewed upon entering, which attest to the quality of the meal one will receive. Each time my wife and I go for a date night, we are always happy with our choices, the service, and the atmosphere.
We went on Mother's Day, and even though it was packed, the food and the service were excellent. Don't know all the wonderful aspects of this place, but we have been there a few times, and even though it is quite a distance from our home, we find it well worth the trip. Maybe a bit pricey for some folks, but within range of ordinary people for special times. It's hard to find authentic German food, but this is the place!
Everyone in our party enjoyed their meals. The wait staff was excellent with service and recommendations.
Even though we had a reservation we had to wait to be seated.
Mother's Day was our first time there and I am not sure if it is like this all the time but we were seated in a smaller room and the tables were too close together. We could hear everyones converstations.
I've been to the Black Forest Inn many times, and the food is always excellent, served hot with generous portions, though quite pricey for what is essentially German comfort food. Always try to seat in the bar area, the ambience is better an servers more attendant. It's easy to vanish in the main restaurant and side rooms, resulting in spotty service. While definitely well frequented by seniors, younger people or families will not feel out of place. Draft beer list is short by modern gastropub standards, but the selection of excellent German brews more than makes up for quantity.
Second dinner at Black Forrest Inn. Decor is traditional, maybe a bit old-fashioned, but we like it. A few separate dining areas kept noise level just fine on our first trip, but this was a Saturday night on Mother's Day weekend. It was packed, and the larger dining room was VERY loud. We asked to be moved and were taken to a smaller dining area near the bar which was much better. The food was fantastic both times that we had dinner. I don't go for the German fare, but their seafood is always fresh and deliciously cooked. Our first dinner was on a Friday night, not on a holiday weekend, and the service was very good. This trip, on Mother's Day weekend, our meal took a total of 2 hours and 40 minutes! We weren't in a hurry and had a nice time, but there was WAY too much of a lag between apps, salads, and entrees. I'll definitely go back again, but will probably avoid holidays.
If you want to visit a special restaurant in Germany, stop at the Black Forest Inn first for dinner and you can save the plane fare. This restaurant is a family favorite of ours. My wife and I went here for our anniversary dinner and again, talked about how much we love this restaurant.
Should you dislike authenticity in cooking, a friendly Bavarian dressed staff, a wonderfully warm oak lined dining room, great wine and beer selection and reasonably priced entrees .... well it may not be for you. I recommend it highly for your regular list of dining spots!
Food was fresh & delicious! Loved the bratwurst and the Rack of Lamb was awesome.. best I've had. Good cocktails, too. Potato Leek soup was piping HOT, CREAMY & FLAVORFUL. The decor is very inviting & you feel as though you are on vacation. We walked around to the other dining rooms after dinner to take a tour & were very impressed (some private rooms for parties or a romantic dinner) We highly recommend dining at the Black Forest Inn! ENJOY !
This is the type of restaurant that you would dine at for holidays and special occasions. They are able to easily accomodate large parties comfortably. The food can be authentic German cuisine however they do offer a variety of other options such as seafood and American fare.
Just a wonderful place! Great service, attentive waiters and waitresses, delicious drinks, excellent German entrees! We just love the German mautchausen appetizer and the sauerbraten and jagwrschnitzel entrees! We will, of course, be back!
Very disappointed to read some of the negative reviews of this place. Glad that I did not change my mind and had a fantastic time with great food, great service and good times. It is an old German charm restaurant so please don't expect up to date amenities. If you are looking for a different flair for a restaurant, this will definitely leaving you wanting to return. I have spent a lot more money at "trendy" and "classic" restaurants that did not give as much in service or value. So, try it out, you will not be disappointed. Definitely make reservations for weekends.
i have not been to this restaurant in about 3 years. i was disappointed with the sauer braten, the gravy was burnt and it did not taste like the meat was marinated.
The vienerschnitzel was not cooked through.
the jaegersnitzel ,veal, was very rare. i am not used to seeing rare veal.
the chef does not capture fine German cuisine, i will not go back
Waitress was pleasant, but uninformed about the beer selection, witch contained only a few German beers. Service both from the bar and food was terribly slow. If you are not going to have live German music, at least play it overhead, not the pop music that was heard. Food was ok, but overpriced in my opinion. No gravy for my wiener schnitzel and the potato pancakes were like the OreIda variety at the grocery store. We had high hopes but were not impressed.
Never disappointed with the food or service. They always have specials that are just as delicious as the regular menu. The food is exceptional. Just delicious. The staff are very nice and friendly. The decor reminds me of an old world castle -rich wood, fire places, cut stone walls. The German themed dresses add a bit of kitsch in a classy way. Makes a special occasion even more memorable. Love it.
I enjoyed the German atmosphere in the main dining area, but we were seated in the back corner of a side room and once the meal order was placed, seeing the server was rare. The entrees are pricey. The food tasted good, especially the side dishes of Spaetzle and red cabbage. I and my family were very disappointed at the small size of the senior (large) portions relative to the price. I get larger portions for much less at other restaurants. The website should be updated to reflect the increase in prices since the last update.
