We love Black Cat, but must say the tasting menus was not as excellent as we have come to expect. Otherwise everything else was five stars as always!
Outstanding tasting menu and wine pairing! The tastes were sublime, enhanced by inviting eye appeal and unusual and beautiful wines. The staff is attentive, professional, and genuinely dedicated to sharing their love of their dishes and wine selection. Black Cat is a must for me every time I travel to Boulder.
We ordered the chef’s tasting menu and premium wine tasting, which we do a couple times a year for special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries. Every time, the servers are prompt, friendly and highly knowledgeable, the food is delicious and it is overall a wonderful experience. When we are done, we always say we should split one chefs tasting between the two of us because there are so many courses. It’s quite expensive, but worth it!
This place is always great for a special night out. We took our two year old and took turns walking her on pearl street between the six course tasting experience.
Friendly staff on the way in, you feel the nice ambiance immediately, just right lighting. Side by side seating for couples. We did the 6 course chef's menu with the premium wine pairing. Our sommelier Logan was excellent with entertaining stories he shared with each pairing. I won't go into details regarding each course, but the majority of their ingredients are sourced from their own farm. A good farm to table restaurant to check out while in Boulder.

For our anniversary dinner, we couldn't have made a nicer choice than Black Cat. The staff was top notch, the ambiance classy with quirks, we loved the quiet atmosphere and extra privacy offered by curtains- both something we've wished for lately!
Our family of four dined at Black Cat as a finale to our spring break trip to Colorado. Each of us thoroughly enjoyed every thoughtfully prepared morsel! We are vegetarian and particularly appreciated and enjoyed the incredibly delicious, creative vegetarian entrée and delicious salads. The staff and setting are fantastic. Our meal and experience are among our best ever!
I took an important client who is a picky eater, but a real foodie. She's still raving about this place. If this is your first time, I highly recommend the Chef's Tasting. Just incredible 7-course meal with severs hovering without interrupting our conversation.
We did the chef's tasting menu with the premium wine pairing and loved every bite and every drop. We sat at the bar as we like to do and watched all the action by the culinary orchestra in the kitchen and the making of the beautiful craft cocktails by the bartender. The sommelier was so passionate and knowledgeable about the wines he poured, and the pairings were terrific. The food was delicious, more special knowing that the ingredients mainly came from the owners' farm.
Excellent as always. Extremely accommodating and taking special needs into consideration. Friendly atmosphere. We will definitely be back - mule foot pork was excellent!

The tasting menu was next level. We had the premium wine paired and had some of the best reds and whites from the 90s. We are still blown away with the service, food and wine. They made us feel like we where the only people in the restaurant.
The tasting menu was fun and they were able to accommodate a few of our requests (one specified no raw fish and another no red meat). The dishes were unique and fresh and the wine pairings were exciting! An excellent experience!

Well, what a wonderful experience! This was our first visit and we will certainly be going back. My husband chose the Premier Wine Grouping and we both had the 6 course meal. Both David and Logan were exceptional for their information and care for my special diet restrictions because of some serious health issues.
Cudos also to the young lady who always brought the new utensils each time. Her smile really added to our overall experience. We loved the food and the farm to table aspect grown in super-organic environments. The eclectic assortment of utensils was special as well. Some of the pieces reminded us of our grandparents and wonderful meals with them years ago.
In a word "AMAZING", this might be the best restaurant experience ever! My wife Kim & I dined at Black Cat to celebrate our Anniversary and it couldn't have been more special. Our server David and Wine Director Logan were exceptional. We ordered the house specialty six course tasting with a fine wine pairing. The selections chosen by Chef Eric and his wife Jill were exceptional.
The first course was Hamachi that Kim loved, but since I'm not a raw fish guy I tried but it was not my cup of tea. The silver lining is that when David noted that I was not enjoying the course, without any prompting, he brought out a wonderful carrot and parsnip soup to replace it. The appetizer course was paired with a lovely Champaign. This was just the start of something beyond my wildest dreams.
Another course was Foie Gras from the NY Hudson Valley paired with a mildly sweet Sauterne. The result was a flavor explosion in my mouth that I will remember forever.
Each additional course was delicious, perfectly sized and appropriately paired. A very nice mix of fish, red meat and vegetables mostly sourced from the owner's farm.
I won't carry on any further other than to say the six course tasting really ended up being eight, Logan "Vivinoed" a couple of impossible to find wine pours and we were in Heaven all night.
Boulder is lucky to have such a wonderful, farm to table Gastronomic adventure to share. I promise we'll be back on our next Denver Trip. We love Boulder and finding Black Cat is enough reason for us to return many more times for special occasions.
We were treated with great favor for my wife's birthday - the staff organized a few special extras for us. My wife and I both had the tasting menu. My wife requested gluten free and I requested vegetarian and our requests were accommodated without any issue. Leave yourself plenty of time to enjoy the full experience. We had a really good time and enjoyed some exceptional food.
Had the tasting menu and premium wine pairings. Everything was outstanding but special compliments to the sommelier who was great at explaining each pairing and telling great back stories.

Service is impeccable and very nice. Not at all snooty like a couple of other high end Boulder restaurants. The food was good but I wouldn't call it great. Too many flavors fighting in each dish. Sometimes less is better when it comes to mixing ingredients in fusion type food. The price for food and drinks is high (although that can be said of a lot of Boulder restaurants - I know that rent is high). So, although I would come for the good service, that's not enough to override the "good but not great" food. I can't say that I would particularly recommend it to friends. But others might enjoy the food more than I did.
Everything about this restaurant is worth checking out. The food is delicious and details are exact. The staff is friendly, professional, knowledgeable and a seamless team. We had the tasting menu, one gluten free and the other regular. No deprivation felt, in fact my wine soaked sour cherries instead of puff pastry with the Pate was genius! The drinks were creative and wine perfectly advised. Be sure to ask to see the sommelier for recommendations on your visit.
We have lived all over the world and dined in many fine restaurants along the way. I researched many of the fine dining establishments in the Boulder area as it is a Foodie Mecca! It was our anniversary and I really wanted to go to some place special as a surprise to my wife. I can easily say, the Black Cat exceeded my (our) expectations by leaps and bounds! We were greeted by the most warm and friendly staff at the door and seated promptly. As we sat down, the gentleman said it was his favorite seat in the house as you could watch the chefs and owner, Jill, coordinate everyone's meal. From there Megan introduced us to the menu and we began our relationship right then and there. We elected to go with the Chef's Tasting Menu with premium wine pairing. Megan is a foodie rock star and made us feel so special and extraordinary. She really helped to complete our night!
Back to the food: What was exciting is that you don't know what you are going to get in your 6 courses or the wine pairing. its a surprise We were introduced to some new French wine, most notable was the 1996 Terreno Chianti Classico Reserva, Tuscany, which is our favorite region for red wines! Needless to say, the food pairing was prepared and served with top marks for presentation and for taste. We were never rushed or had to wait for any of the courses. To top off the night we were greeted by the Master Executive Chef and Owner, Erik Skokan, while we were on our 5th course. Erik is such genuine person with a passion for what he does and how he does it. We spent about 20 minutes learning more about his background and where he trained, about his farms and ranches, and about his WHY! We found that there was a true connection between Erik, the Black Cat, and us! If Denver and Boulder had the opportunity to be a Michelin Star Rated community, I am positive Erik would be the recipients. Congrats on your book! The menu is slipping into a rut. Same exact Tasting Menu that I had in October. Very disappointed in the same thing. Tone down the salt. Too salty!
Great food and wine selection! Reminds me of a small joint in NYC with lots of character, excellent food, good service, and lots of great choices on wine list. Sommelier Logan made great suggestions and introduced us to several new wines, even a good Colorado wine. We had a blast! We’ll be back for sure...
What a wonderful and unexpected evening! My husband and I went out with another couple for a nice dinner out. Black Cat has a small and intimate setting. We loved the ambiance of this restaurant. The light was dim but not too dark which I personally enjoy. You could softly hear the fun, funky music coming in from Bramle and Hare just enough so it wasn’t overwhelming.
We started off the night with a nice bottle of Barbaresco. It was a tough choice as the wine list was long and on the expensive side. We enjoyed our bottle but didn’t love it. It was on the lower end at $78.00.
We shared the foie gras as an app and for me, this was my favorite. It was buttery and flavorful with a dried cherry sauce, I will go back specifically for this! Our friends had Striped Bass (Fish Friday) and my husband and I had the Osso Bucco and we all were overwhelmed by the deliciousness! We all ate in silence as we each enjoyed every bite. There was not a bite leftover. After we all finished we raved about our meals and wanted to give our compliments to the chef but apparently he is on the shy side and didn’t want to come over so we shared our thoughts with the sous chef.
The staff was attentive and knowledgeable. The wine expert was patient and knowledgeable and not pushy at all.
In lieu of dessert we walked through the hall to Bramble and Hare to have a night cap. Bramble has a cool hip vibe that was perfect for this. Behind the bar is an industrial rotating wheel that houses their liquor which was fun to see. We all wanted a Baileys and coffee and unfortunately they didn’t have baileys so they made us a Japanese coffee with a Japanese Burbon and cream which was BETTER than what we wanted. We were lucky that the owner was working in the kitchen at Bramble so we were able to sing their praises to him directly. Overall an incredible and memorable evening we won’t soon forget, thank you!
We had the chefs tasting menu. All dishes were delicious and fresh with one minor exemption. My wife had vegetarian options of which one dish was slightly over salted. The premium wine paring was exceptional. The sommelier was knowledgeable and passionate about the wines. All of them complement the food perfectly.

Took my husband here for his birthday. We opted for the tasting menu with wine pairings. They checked for dietary restrictions and catered the tasting menu around both of our needs. They even presented us with different dishes during some courses that satisfied each of our individual tastes. The wine pairings were perfect each time.
The courses and wine were well planned and perfectly executed. Truly a phenomenal experience!
The food was exquisite, vibrant, local, and a complex yet balanced blend of ingredients.
My wife and I were not drinking alcohol, but enjoy cocktails of depth and balance, so the bartender created quite excellent “mocktails”! Service was impeccable, attentive, but not fawning, and we quite enjoyed the array of antique silverware. The intimate booth complete with sheepskin made for a wonderfully beautiful 36th anniversary of our first date. Bravo!
It was our second visit. Celebrating the closing on our new house. We'll go back for special occasions in the future.

The food at Black Cat is always exceptional - there were 4 of us for dinner this week, and each had a different entree - we were all delighted with our choice. The chef is creative and each dish is interesting.
