Contemporary American
Black Cat, opened in 2006 and founded by Chef Eric Skokan and his wife, Jill, serves inspired farm to table cuisine based on the just-picked produce from its own, full-scale 425 acre certified Organic farm. By day, Skokan cares for the vegetables out in his fields. Each evening finds him in the kitchen crafting dishes on his daily changing menu.

Daily pairing menus give our sommeliers ample opportunity to dip into the 400+ selection cellar. The restaurant's wine list places the great wines of the world side-by-side with small, off-the-beaten-path producers from lesser-known regions.

Hand-crafted, seasonal cocktails featuring artisanal spirits & local ingredients show the talent of our professional mixologists who make our bar spring to life.
The Black Cat has a lively, warm atmosphere in its intimate dining room. It is located in the heart of Boulder, CO, just off the historic Pearl Street Mall.

There are not enough good things I can say about Black Cat. They are a small and intimate restaurant and have comfy love seats for two setup at many of the tables. The service was simply outstanding, hostess and servers were a joy to talk to and were right there when I needed anything.

And the food. The food was to die for. I had the lamb shank which next to my mom's Easter dinner is probably the best lamb I have ever had, so well done with veggies that complemented it perfect. Their pumpkin spice cheesecake was simply define.

Honestly, I didn't know food could taste this good.

If you're in the area I highly recommend you check them out!

I went to Black cat on my wife’s birthday and we were not disappointed it’s not one of her favorite places and we all had a great experience. The food is amazing!

We did the Chef tasing menu with the premium wine pairing... all we can say is OMG! I travel a lot and have the opportunity to eat at some very good restaurants around the country... this meal is at the very top of that list!

This was one of the best experiences my husband and have ever had dining out....including wonderful restaurants in San Francisco, NYC, and Paris! We had the Chef’s Tasting menu and the Classic Wine Pairing. The food was incredible and the presentation of both the food and wine were incomparable. Thank you, Black Cat. It was our first time here and, hopefully, it won’t be our last.

The food was absolutely outstanding. But more importantly, we were there to spend time with a friend for the first time since she had lost her son. It was a highly emotional evening and your staff was incredibly professional during a service that was likely very uncomfortable for them. So sorry for that, but thank you so much for taking such good care of us. Love this place.

I took my wife here as a treat for her birthday. The restaurant definitely exudes class and elegance and provides extremely comfortable sofa seating along the wall which affords you a nice view of everything happening, including a view into the kitchen. Service was prompt and gracious, and I appreciated the information on each wine and food pairing we had; we opted for the chef's tasting menu alongside wine pairings. Unfortunately, the food, while not bad, was definitely not much to write home about. Between my wife and I, the only thing we could agree we really liked was the fois gras, and while yes, that is from the farm that provides the food for this restaurant, it's not really a dish that requires a lot of skill from the chef. The other dish I enjoyed was the lamb and in particular the beet "ketchup", but my wife did not. Overall, for the money we paid and knew we were going to be paying, it was a lackluster experience in terms of dishes but certainly not service or setting. I might give the restaurant another shot some day, but I'm not dying to get back there.

A truly awful meal. "Local and sustainable", they said. The kitchen took what should have been beautiful ingredients and made garbage. The dishes were overwrought and looked like a three year old plated them.
I ordered Duck Two Ways. The duck breast was so oversalted it was inedible and duck confit was overcooked into blackened wood chips. The whole thing was piled on a green spaetzle and vegetable mixture and the slop mountain covered the entire plate almost from edge to edge. The entree was completely lacking in artistry from inception and execution to plating. The other members of our party entree's were much the same and everyone was disappointed.
To the chef: how about a nice duck one way with a couple of thoughtful sides? To create and cook and plate in your attempted manner takes talent and artistry. You clearly do not possess the ability to pull this off.
To add insult to injury, I watched the chef in open kitchen give tastes to the server out of the saucepan. The server seemed to think it was good from his reaction. It's not something I care to see again.
Skip this place.

We enjoyed the chef’s tasting menu with the basic wine pairing and it was delicious! We really enjoyed our waitress, Shelby. Her knowledge and manner greatly enhanced the fabulously food.

There have only been a handful of times in my entire life that I may have been treated better at a restaurant. The food was outstanding, we enjoyed the tasting menu thoroughly and they took exceptional care of us throughout. The pork belly they served us may have been one of the best pork dishes I've ever had.

I have heard good things about this place and decided to go there for a business meeting because I needed a place that would be quiet enough for a good business discussion. They have a table for 4 in a little alcove in the back and it was absolutely perfect for us. We enjoyed the charcuterie, cheese board, and foi gras for starters. The three guys I was with ordered the harvest salad and they looked BIG and yummy but I passed because it would have been too much food after the starters. For entrees three of us got the Colorado stripped bass and it was fantastic. My CEO got the duo of bison and it looked great as well. Even the wine by the glass was awesome (the cheapest white is $14 per glass). The menu was smallish but good. Maybe next time I'll try the tasting menu. It was worth every penny, but I'm glad my company was picking up the check because it was all on the pricey side, but that's what you expect for fresh, local food.

We went for our anniversary and where visiting from out of town . We had a lot of choices but the farm to table helped us choose this amazing rest. The staff was amazing friendly and knowledgeable in every item on the plate. The food was superb. I could not ask for anything more from a dining facility except to possible be located in my home town. Thank you for making a special experience for my wife and I and when we come back to boulder again we will be visiting as the food was amazing !

We've been going to the Black Cat for almost 13 years. For a restaurant to retain our patronage across such a long period of time is indicative of something truly exceptional - and the Black Cat is indeed exceptional: outstanding food, service, and overall experience. While it doesn't have a Michelin star rating, the quality and freshness of the food, the personable waitstaff, and the relaxing, no-pretense atmosphere in some respects equal if not exceed what one would experience at a starred establishment.

Everything was perfect! We had the 6course meal with the premium wine pairing and every single item could not have been better. The service and ambience were just right too. Yes, it was quite expensive, but in my opinion, it is the best restaurant in Boulder!

Had an absolutely wonderful meal...we did the chef’s tasting menu which was fabulous. Excellent balance of farm-to-table ingredients and high quality meats and seafood...including the mulefoot pork - melt in your mouth scrumptious. Chef even treated us to an extra little course...everything was so tasty!

Excellent flavor with farm to table freshness. Hostess a bit stuffy and gave us a poor first impression. Expensive so doubt, with limited menu choices - they push their tasting menu. We opted for family share and ala cart.

Not for the folks that like hearty home style servings.

Delicious! Wonderful experience for a special occasion.

I made a reservation for dinner at the Black Cat after I proposed to my girlfriend. The food was absolutely incredible and the staff was stellar the entire evening and made it extra special for us. I highly recommend the Black Cat and plan on going back in the future!!

I did the tasting menu tailored to be vegetarian. It was absolutely amazing and was even brought an extra (7th) course. It is not cheap but it is totally worth the cost. Highly recommended

My husband and I eat out a lot and felt our experience at Black Cat was among our top favorites! This was our first time there as we live in Cleveland.
The wait staff worked fluidly as a team, led by the incomparable Sarah! All of them being welcoming and attentive to our every question and need. They were all truly engaged and offered a beyond excellent customer experience.
Our dinner was perfectly prepared, setting a very high standard for every other farm-to-table establishment. Presentation of our entrees was beautiful, with fresh sauces that perfectly enhanced the entree, and not overwhelming it! Truly delicious!

Received exceptional service, as we were waiting for our main course-several food treats were brought over to us compliments of the restaurant. We were celebrating an anniversary and also received complimentary flutes of champagne.

We had the bass and bison dishes as well as a cheese tray. All were absolutely delicious.

We live in the area and can honestly say this was one of the best restaurants we've ever been to.

Pleasant staff, decent service (no one checked in with us regarding our entrees once they had been served). Food was appalling.
I love the idea of farm to table dining but when your farm is only producing tough corn and stringy, tough greens, use them for stock, not dishes on your overpriced menu. Conversely, if you’re blessed with gorgeous salad greens, don’t ruin them with an uninventive and too acidic vinaigrette.
We ordered three entrees: fresh water bass, bison, and duck, ranging in price from $35-40. First of all, the plating was astonishing: my bison accompaniments were uniformly pea-green, for example. They all looked suited to scene
from M*A*S*H.
Ugly food can taste wonderful, of course, but not so these dishes. My small potion of bison was delicious, but the accompanying vegetables tasted as though they had been stewed in the same pot and seasoned with vinegar. The accompanying dumplings were extremely bland. My daughter’s duck was rancid - inedible. My husband’s fish and vegetables were merely edible. Like days-old leftovers from an unmemorable meal.
Nice atmosphere, nice concept, just really terrible food.

The atmosphere was so wonderful! The food was wonderful! We did the chef sampling with wine & the waiter described the wine as well as the waitress described each chef prepared dish! I can’t recommend it enough!!
