Daily pairing menus give our sommeliers ample opportunity to dip into the 400+ selection cellar. The restaurant's wine list places the great wines of the world side-by-side with small, off-the-beaten-path producers from lesser-known regions.
Hand-crafted, seasonal cocktails featuring artisanal spirits & local ingredients show the talent of our professional mixologists who make our bar spring to life.
The Black Cat has a lively, warm atmosphere in its intimate dining room. It is located in the heart of Boulder, CO, just off the historic Pearl Street Mall.
Amazing food and amazing service. The set tasting menu is well worth the price.
Black cat is one of our favorite splurge spots! It's such a food adventure!
What to say about Black Cat? I can tell you that I have been to many establishments all over the world and especially in Boulder, and Black Cat blew me away! This was the best anniversary dinner that we have had. From the time we walked in, to the time we left, we were treated so well and made sure our experience was phenomenal. The hostess was welcoming, the service was great, and the knowledge of the Chef and Sommelier were unmatched.
You can tell Chef Eric (Owner/Head Chef) LOVES what he does. Every dish was prepared so well and the presentation was even better. He made sure to stop by 3 times to see how we were doing and even ran out a couple of dishes to us personally to explain the courses. We did the chef's experience with the Premium and Regular wine tasting and either choice would be a solid one. The Sommelier was fantastic and wrote down the wines he paired for our meal for us so we could remember our favorite ones.
We had a 6-course meal, from soup to beets, to lamb and scallops. Every course was so good, inviting, prepared meticulously and presented with grace and care. We also got to sample 12 different wines by doing the premium and regular tasting with the chef's experience! So wonderful.
Truly one of the best dining experiences you will have in Boulder, CO. The price is a bit up there but it is worth it! fantastic spot for our 7th Anniversary and I will definitely be back!
The service was beyond exceptional. The food was great. I consider this one of the top restaurants in Boulder without doubt.
no need to leave Boulder for a world class meal after all
INCREDIBLE!!!!!! One of the best meals I've had ever. What a fun experience. I would recommend this to anyone coming to the Boulder area. It is a MUST!!!
Great restaurant. We did the chef tasting menu with the premium wine paring and it was amazing.
Everything was perfect and exceeded our expectations.
Celebrating our 40th Anniversary! The BEST! Farm to table is excellent. Service. Quality. Ambiance. Food. Flavor. Unique. Fit for this farm girl foodie.
Great Restaurant great service great food we had an incredible time service was absolutely impeccable. Food was perfect
Excellent food, superb service
Incredible tasting menu and fantastic service and staff. They make it truly and experience.
This is a special place. It elevates cuisine in Colorado. Truly farm to table and truly fine dining, with an exceptional staff.
Nice welcome, great service, excellent choices and amazing food! Started with a beet salad with a little goat cheese, crispy greens and delicious dressing and had a Bison duo for dinner that was out of this world!
Highly recommend this sleeper restaurant in Boulder!
We were in town for a wedding and, aside from those activities, we wanted a special place to enjoy. Based on other reviews, and the availability of a reservation, we chose Black Cat and were very pleased with our meal. The Chef’s Tasting, with pairing, was excellent. We particularly enjoyed the slightly sweet (and foamy) turnip soup with greens, the scallop beurre blanc, and the floating islands. The lamb was overdone for our tastes (we like rare) and the chorizo a bit heavy for the overall meal. The fois gras was exceptional; almost buttery in texture. The waitstaff was attentive, efficient, and not over involved. Everything, including the wines, was well explained. Highly recommend!
Black Cat is a beautiful restaurant - a special place for a special evening. I’ll start with the positive - the service and ambiance are relaxed and elegant. Our group felt genuinely welcomed and cared for from the minute we entered. The cheese plate and wine choices were an excellent way to start. The food however didn’t match the rest- the plates lacked elegant presentation and the flavors and textures while good weren’t outstanding. There almost seemed to be too much on the plate - perhaps trying for upscale rustic but missed the mark and came off more like comfort food.
First time. Great food and even better service. Would recommend
Just wasn’t my cup of tea...very expensive for but my kind of food. Maybe it’s for other people. Will not be returning.
An amazing evening!
Perfect for a date special occasion or business meeting! Sit solo at the bar for dinner It’s a very special experience
My wife and I enjoyed the Chef's Tasting menu with the wine pairing and it was excellent. The staff was extremely attentive and friendly. Overall it was a very enjoyable evening and I will definitely be returning.
Second time at Black Cat and was a bit of a disappointment food wise.
Only one course out of six (the lamb/pork chorizo if I remember well) really satisfied me.
The rest were so so and definitely not worth the money imo.
Place is beautiful, pretty sure we got the worst possible table in the house.
We have been to Back Cat many times, sadly this time the simple tasting menu (not chef’s) left a lot to be desired flavor and execution wise. The chefs menu/wine pairings on the other hand, were amazing as usual.
This was the ultimate dining experience. We loved the setting and how each table felt private. We went with the six course menu and wine pairing, and it did not disappoint. Each wine pairing was thoughtfully selected and the perfect accompaniment to the dish we were eating. We especially loved the chorizo meatballs and turnip soup. Thank you for making our anniversary celebration a special one! We will certainly be back.
Wonderful farm to table with an adventurous menu which may not be for everyone. We totally enjoyed it!
It was a lovely and novel experience as we opted for the chef's tasting menu with wine pairings and it was over 2 hours from start to the dolce. Highly recommended for that special occasion.
Amazing dinner! We had the blind tasting meal with the wine paring. The kitchen was great about accommodating dietary restrictions and preferences. The food was incredible and the selection of wines to go with were perfect! The staff were all professional, knowledgeable and kind. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough!
I’m going to offer Black Cat some suggestions, as follows:
1. Being “farm to table” is great. But if something is significantly out-of-season, then don’t serve it at all, rather than pretend to serve it. I had the turnip salad, my wife had the beet salad. Both had relatively few turnips (in my case) or beets (in hers) and were instead really just red leaf lettuce salads with beet or turnip accents. For me, that was ok; the lettuce was good, as was the dressing; it just wasn’t a turnip salad. For her, it was less good: same pile of lettuce, but the dressing was salty, and a low quantity of beets meant not much sweet for balance. #SaladFail
2. If the server, when he brings the plates, is trained to tell each person what is on their plate ... and cannot remember each item (and there were only two of us—not a whole table of people) then, guess what: your dish has too many items on it. In my case, this meant that an otherwise-delicate quail had been completely overpowered by a strong lamb merguez sausage stuffing, and was surrounded by (at least) parsnips, artichokes, polenta, another, differently flavored sauce in a different corner of the plate, and—our server made sure to note—freshly picked spinach. In my wife’s case, same thing, except replace the quail/lamb combo for striped bass, which was the only edible thing on the plate.
3. For the love of all that is holy: creme brûlée does not need a whipped cream topping of any kind. It doesn’t matter that it’s “chantilly” made from mascarpone. Let the creme brûlée stand on its own!
Finally: our primary server was lovely and attentive. But the sheepskin/mohair throws on the backs of the couches in the side booths? Those? Yeah, management: they need to be cleaned, in between seatings, because they collect (other people’s) hair, and it is just kind of gross. In fact, even better idea: along with bringing some editing to your dishes, edit these couch covers out of existence.
Very nice, enjoyed food and service was great! I am a tartare fan but never had lamp and is was great!
We loved everything about Black Cat - the ambience, the decor, the food and the service. It was a nice change of pace to find a restaurant in Boulder with a slightly more formal atmosphere.
Our mouths were delighted at each plate that was served! I delightful dining experience in a cozy atmosphere!
One of the best culinary experiences that I have had in Colorado in the last 20 years!
My favorite restaurant - always an outstanding experience!
Had the Chef's tasting menu with the wine pairing. Every course was wonderful and the wine was great. This is the second time we've had the tasting menu with the wine pairing and it won't be the last!
My old Cowboy husband and I were on vacation, I was looking for something different from a regular steakhouse! First of all, we made reservations about a month in advance and then, had to change the time at the last minute and the staff was quick and so gracious to accommodate us! We chose the Chef's Tasting Menu for our supper. Oh My Goodness!!!! What an experience!!! I have never really thought of eating as an 'experience', but words cannot explain the tastes and textures and aromas... it was truly a great experience!! I am an old country girl and everyone around says I am the best cook; I have been cooking three meals a day for farmhands and combine crews for almost 50 years but this food at the Black Cat was just something else entirely, it wasn't like food I have ever eaten, or even considered eating or preparing, but it was just amazing wonderful to me and surprisingly, to my husband as well!!!
So, as I recall, there were 7 or 8 courses... it took us over two hours to complete the evening; isn't that refreshing from elbows flying and gulping down an entire meal in less than 10 minutes?!? With each course someone would explain exactly what we were eating, how it was prepared and answer any questions. They would also tell us about the Farm or about history the food or the preparation; it was so very interesting. Everyone there was so nice, we didn't feel out of place at all. The food was simply amazing! I can't even tell you what all we had, but I can tell you that it was amazing good!!! There wasn't a single thing they brought us that me and my husband didn't absolutely love!! It was incredible!
The tasting meal option on the menu is probably one of the best meals I have ever had. The tastes, diversity us just scrumptious.
Come on, this place is so good it’s ridiculous. Staff, food, knowledge, sustainability, love. It’s all off the charts wonderful.
well, we had quite the expectations but.....
sand in greens is not a way to start a meal, masa dumplings where tasteless and hard, sautéed Magenta turnips where bitter and pork was just too fatty. We ended up sitting in front of our half finished plates for good fifteen minutes (our utensils where properly placed to signal we where finished) before our server came to clear them without a word. I have to say my martini was the best part of the meal. We really wanted to like it since it was a birthday dinner out.
We love Black Cat. We usually order from their tasting menu with their premium wine. It can be a little pricy, but the food is always unique and delicious. The price would be more reasonable if we ordered off their a la carte menu. We go for special occasions. Our favorite Boulder/North Denver restaurant
