Black Bear Bistro
Just need to add vanilla ice cream to go with the delicious chocolate chip bread pudding! (And for kiddies)
Our food and service were great. We ate outside on the patio and it was quiet and pleasant. The ambiance inside resembled eating in a bar so it wasn’t what we expected or were looking for.
Great restaurant! Wide variety of choices on the menu. Excellent service. Mother-in-law loved it which made for a perfect Mother’s Day.
Dined at the Black Bear Bistro on Mother's Day. We enjoyed a wonderful meal and will definitely return!
a surprise gem found, we had a great experience. Will definitely come back.
The food was good. Service was good. Nice thing is two menus in one. Had Brussels Caesar. Should have been crunchy but it wasn’t. Turkey and Brie sandwich was good.
We ate downstairs so I gave the ambiance a three. I really prefer the old upstairs. They have great oysters. I love the bear parafenelia. The noise was low which I really appreciate (hope I marked it correctly above.)
Enjoyed the wood fire options and the outdoor dining. Would definitely go back.
Amazing find in old town Warrenton! Food and atmosphere are very nice. Great place to have conversation with friends.
Quickly seated and outside on a beautiful day. Pleased with service and food. We have been here several times and will be back.
Server was nice but food was just okay-got a burger with fries and the fries were soggy and limp. Asked for them to be well done but either her had been sitting around or were covered and steamed after cooking.
I always enjoy going to Black Bear. Food is good, however my friend did not enjoy the vegetable soup. Prices are reasonable. Have sat both inside and out and have enjoyed both the atmospheres.
Food was underwhelming. I ordered the chicken cordon blue sandwich and the chicken was extremely dry and somewhat cold. One of my friends ordered a specialty hotdog. She felt it was ok, but not as good as one she could get at Foster’s for less money. My husband had the oyster poor boy and said it was ok, but nothing to write home about. I was disappointed because I was the one who recommended going to the restaurant based largely on reviews I had read about the quality of the food. I note that we were there for lunch and it was around 3:30 pm so perhaps their focus was more on preping for the dinner crowd. I will note that the three of us split a piece of German Chocolate Cake which was delicious and thoroughly enjoyed.
Enjoyed lunch with friends. Our meals were very tasty and varied, and sizable portions. We had wings, oysters, fish poor boys, salads and brick oven calzones. Our drinks included wine, beer, ice tea. The greetings, service, and food quality and presentation was purely outstandingly. Our collective kudos to the fun staff and management, and the cooking team. We regularly trek from south Fairfax County to sup at this delight restaurant.
Five ladies thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Our vegetarian friend was particularly happy with the menu choices.
Previous visits have been fine, especially dining on the patio. This visit I had reservation and though there were plenty of open tables when we arrived, they initially tried to seat us a a table wedged in an unlit corner behind a table with 2 small kids and a crying baby. I am fine with supporting family trying to have a meal out, but no need to seat us there with many other options. After asking to be moved to another table things were fine. However, after bringing our food, the waitress disappeared never to return. After 45 minutes after finishing our meal, and needing to get back to work, we finally had to just get up and flag down someone to find our waitress in the back to get out check so we could pay.
Service was hometown friendly, and food was delicious.
Good food and fast attentive service. The menu is unique. It is nice they have vegan options.
The Bistro is consistently excellent. This is our go-to place in Warrenton. Great job on the prime rib! And, Sarah, our server is the best!
We had a most delightful group meal with good friends, including children, yesterday. The greetings and service was superb, and all the staff and chefs, and pizza chef had great personalities and were upbeat and made us feel at home. The food and drink choices were varied and plentiful. The meals were all over-the-top. Strombils, pizzas, sandwiches and salads were well prepared, presented and quite tasty indeed. Great beer and cocktails too. This is a well-run restaurant that sure knows how to please a group. Thanks you Black Bear Team!
Great lunch specials. Love to sit downstairs with a cozy fire in the winter. It is a good place for small groups for lunch. I wish the french fries were unseasoned or just with a bit of salt.
I love this restaurant! Great food! The server was friendly, a bit slow this time, but she may have been new. We were not in a hurry anyway. Love that they have plenty of options for everyone!
Great food. Young inexperienced wait staff. Very courteous. Had a great experience.,
Our second tine here. Food is pretty good. Service needs a lot of work. I think this will be our last time.
I feel the place has potential. I feel they were unprepared for the night. I made a reservation a few days in advance, when we arrived the hostess tried to seat us at a ledge on the wall, not exactly what I had in mind for Valentine’s Day. I refused that seat, the hostess took to a different room where there were 4 empty tables, this confused me as to the first seating offered. The waitress did a great job, the food was good, my steak was what I expected, my fiancé chicken was over cooked. The drinks were good and cold. Our server saved the night. I would try it again on another night and would hope for a better result. It is an awesome venue.
Wonderful spot for our Valentine’s Day dinner. Atmosphere was cozy, dinner was delicious, and local beer selection was outstanding. Our server was super! So glad we dined there; we’ll be going back for sure.
Probably the best brisket I’ve ever had. Keep up the great work.
We had a reservation for 5 individuals at 6:30 pm we arrived a few minutes beyond. From there it went down hill the drinks were weak two items on the menu nonexistent for a Friday evening I find this disgraceful and short sited and the rest of the meals serviceable at best and over priced.
Not only was the food exceptional, but my soup had all fresh vegetables, made fresh in the kitchen. Our server was very accommodating and did not hesitate to answer our questions or ask the chef if she wad unclear. Very enjoyable.
We have used Black Bear for a lunch destination as it is our half way meeting place for family and friends! Great food choices and wonderful ambiance.
We had a good experience at Black Bear. This was actually our second time, after a space of perhaps five years. (We are from out of town). We were seated by the fire, which was most welcome on a cold day, and our waitress was friendly and attentive. We enjoy the quirky décor, which features bears in every mode conceivable, and the location in the heart of Warrenton-- a classy main-street community in Virginia's horse country. The food was B+ quality, and prices were reasonable. We would definitely recommend it.
Great evening with friends for a Christmas dinner. Everyone loved their meals and we had a great time
Excellent food. Chicken and lime rice special was very good. Vegan chili is unbelievable. Falafel hoagy is perfect.
The staff went over and above accommodating one of our party with limited mobility. The music selection and warm fire topped off a pleasant Sunday dinner.
Cozy atmosphere and great food. Fresh ingredients and excellent employees. We will make it a regular stop.
Always a good day when you can get a gluten free pizza hot from a brick oven. The vegan version was excellent. Many other GF and vegan options.
The photos online show white tablecloths and upscale type date-night feel.... this place is great for casual dining but definitely not upscale like the pictures lead you to believe. There were no tablecloths on any of the tables and there were 6-pack beer cartons on every table holding the condiments. Our drinks came out in plastic Pepsi cups... Definitely not the type of date night place we were expecting but we laughed about it and ate there anyways, and the food was great. Our waitress was very patient with us and didn’t bother or rush us to order. The only thing we didn’t like was the bread pudding. We will definitely be going back to try more of the menu, just not for any special occasions! Also the music was really great and fit the casual vibe of the restaurant... a lot of oldies and classic rock.
Nice, average food. Filet was overcooked and a little fatty. Lighting was harsh and when we asked the waiter about it, he said there was nothing he could do about it. All in all not bad, but will likely go somewhere else on our next visit.
I was very disappointed with the condition if the restaurant! Please spend some elbow grease and some money in sprucing up the place. Change the dirty table cloths, not just cover them up with paper! And please replace your salt and pepper shakers with non-rusting ones, the humidity in your lower level is high. Also, it smells super musty in the lower level. All this should be evident to a good restaurant owner/manager.
A great place for a business or friend lunch. I so appreciate the delicious vegan options.
