Overall experience was wonderful! This was a first time experience for me. beautiful old building and wood work all well kept. The service staff was very helpful and accommodating. Food was very well prepared, highly recommend the grilled octopus appetizer.
1st time here- was staying hotel- very wonderful diverse menu- great view- all 3 of us enjoyed our dinners- service super and it was busy! and french press coffee- gotta love it!
We’d have issues recommending the Black Bass moving forward. Our family is local to the area and we would go here for holidays and special occasions. In the past, this restaurant always had the best food and we were willing to pay the added expense for both the scenery, the quality of food, and their drinks. For the first time ever, the food and drinks were all terrible. All of our dishes (seared scallops, salmon, and crab) were flavorless. My wife’s crab entree had multiple pieces of shell in it at every bite. She pointed it out to the waitress (who seemed exhausted—granted it was a holiday) but nothing was done about this. In all three small entrees, three drinks (which also were flavorless and pricey), and three desserts with tip can to around $200. I hate to admit it but we’ve honestly had better cooked meals consistently from Blue Apron and Hello Fresh for far less. I don’t know what has happened as prior to this, the Black Bass was always a highlight to our trips when visiting family in New Hope every year. I’m not sure if they switched main chefs, changed management, or were just having an off night. But unless things change back to the way they were or somehow for the better, we will have to go elsewhere in the future.
Beautifully rustic with wood and stone everywhere. Gorgeous view of the Delaware River. Service was very slow, so if you want to take a couple of hours to relax and enjoy your meal, this is the place for you. Food was delicious. Staff was very accomodating.
I recommended the Black Bass for lunch with a friend because it’s my favorite restaurant. We were seated close to the windows in the main dining room on a Tuesday and it was about half full. Our waitress was great! We both ordered the brisket sandwich, which looked delicious. When our plates arrived, we were told that we had gotten “the last of the brisket “, like that was a good thing. But no. The meat was tough and stringy, drowned in a very sweet barbecue sauce. The accompanying red cabbage slaw was just awful, with flavors that were unrecognizable. Neither of us ate it. The onion rings were greasy and barely warm (like the sandwich). We were not in the mood to complain, but it was the worst food I’ve ever had there.
Beautiful setting, excellent service and wonderful food. The seafood chowder was really special!
We loved it. Becky took good care of us. She asked if our dining was for a special occasion. In fact, it was. This was our 30th wedding anniversary. We were seated where I requested, by the window so we could see the river. We watched birds and people along the canal path. The food was exceptional with flavors that I cannot recreate at home. The bottle of wine was a good value and the dessert was extra special. We walked around to see more of the historic building. Before we left, Becky brought us a card and a box of delicious chocolates tied with a ribbon to acknowledge our 30th. Nice touch! We will definitely return. TY.
Always has been excellent, never disappointed, highly recommended.
Don’t recommend, at least not for lunch. The food must be prepared prior as no substitutions are allowed. And, Chicken is not served during lunch...odd right? They advised it wasn’t prepared when asked if it could be added to a salad . Nothing was worth trying again.
Would recommend for the ambiance and the view. Probably a reallly nice place to go for drinks, food is good but nothing to rave about.
Always unique pairings and entrees - not a place for picky eaters. Meats are high quality. Make reservations early if you are going on Friday or Saturday nights
There were 5 of us who lunched at the restaurant and we really enjoyed it. Each of us loved the food we ordered. Our waitress was exceptional. She was pleasant, helpful in answering questions on the menu and made us feel very welcome. As always, the atmosphere is wonderful. The view of the river while you're eating is beautiful. We all agreed that we will go there again soon.
Salads were superb but soup, scallops and burger were inconsistent with past experience. Mushroom soup very floury. Medium rare hamburger was well done and scallops luke warm (should be piping hot).
Disappointed in meal overall and we eat here fairly often.
Took guests for drinks and dinner. Very good bartender. Mushroom soup served luke warm, rice pilaf luke warm, rolls luke warm, dinner plates cold! Waitress attentive. Desert excellent. $500 evening with bar bill and tips. Nice window view of river. Somewhat disappointed in experience but a beautiful place.
Have been to the Black Bass many times and have never been disappointed. On Sundays for the Champagne Brunch, you have many choices, including gluten free, something for everyone! The atmosphere is lovely. A must visit!
Waitress not very happy and welcoming. Didn’t seem like she wanted to be there. Wish we had Shirley
Beet salad is excellent, as is porketta sandwich and cassoulet. The broccoli soup, chicken and hamburger (pretzel bun made difficult to eat) entrees, and raspberry sorbet not so much. We reserved early Saturday lunch, but the dining room filled up quickly after we were seated, and our server seemed stretched thin.
Ambience, excellent food, good service and fabulous view. That’s why I keep going back!
Rivertown Restaurant Week. What an absolute pleasure.!We went expecting smaller than customary portions and a “get you in & out” service mentality. As it turns out, portions were generous and we never felt rushed. We were encouraged to taste and enjoy our meal and the ambiance.!Service was excellent!
For Sunday brunch, hard to beat. Beautiful, cheerful setting, casual-but-classy vibe, friendly and attentive staff, very good food, unlimited champagne, four courses, all for $38. Nothing too adventurous or mind-blowing on the menu but everything is well executed. Try the seafood Newburg omelet or the eggs Benedict. Book for 11 a.m. to beat the crowds and improve your chances for a table by the window. Gaze at the river, sip champagne, nibble at a leisurely pace, sip some more, repeat for a couple hours. Afterwards, stroll across the bridge. What’s not to like?
Had reservations for sat afternoon, got there early and seated right away but no smile or welcome from hostess or waitress. Got the impression we weren’t wanted there. Shrimp and scallop appetizers were cooked at perfect temp, however sauce served with scallops tasted like baby food. My son liked the Ragu very much, I had the Cassoulet. Only ate a few spoonfuls before giving up. Honestly tasted like canned bean soup with flavorless meat. Shared the reason I didn’t want it with waitress, who gave no sign of caring. Blueberry cheesecake was good. Will go where I feel wanted next time.
Great food, lovely view, wonderful service. For a special occasion or just a delicious lunch with friends, this is the place to be!
Service was fair .
Presentations were good however sauces and soups lacked flavor and zest.
Short ribs were noticeably too fatty.
Experience was wonderful. View was amazing. Food was amazing. Service was great. We went for our 20th anniversary, and it made it extra special!!!
Overall very good experience. You cannot beat the venue and the setting. They make it worth the price, which is a little bit higher than comparable establishments near here. Food is consistently good, service is professional. For me it’s a little bit of a special occasion place. But one look forward to.
Excellent food and view in an historic setting that is memorable
The Sunday champaign brunch is a special treat. Relaxing watching the Delaware. River go by from this historic venue. Food was delicious. This was our 2nd time and we will be back.
Our food was good for the value and the view is always beautiful but our service this day was disappointing.
Outstanding Service and food. We were seated right away and our waitress was outstanding.
Black bass is amazing. We celebrated a birthday. My family came all the way from Brooklyn to join us. Can’t wait for warmer weather to sit outside. Thank you.
Food was delicious and the service was very good. Friday night was nice and relaxing. Always a nice night and date night there
This was an fantastic evening and the Black Bass was outstanding. After dinner we made our way to the Pub and met new friends which made the evening even better.
Perfect setting for a romantic lunch. Can never decide if we would prefer a bright and sunny waterview or the dark and cozy bar.
Fun night for my husbands birthday. We dined with another couple. I wasn’t too thrilled of the table placement but the view was spectacular. Drink menu was okay, wished their were more adventurous cocktails. We had the shrimp appetizer which we loved. My husband had the crab dish which was a house favorite and I had the scallops. Both dishes were delicious. Dessert too held it’s own! We were very happy and can’t wait to come back!
We have been going there for at least 5 years, great place but need to change menu once in a while. Get tired of having the same choices. Or provide some seasonal specials.
Ambiance was wonderful. Food was fine, nothing outstanding. It is very pricey. Shrimp app was wonderful, $5.00 for 1 xtra shrimp is kinda crazy considering I heard every waitstaff ask tables ordering it near us if they wanted to add a 4th shrimp, easy money!
I wouldn’t go back for dinner, but I would definitely go back for lunch which is
Great food, great service, beautiful setting. Highly recommend.
Great meal, presentation was somewhat sloppy but food was delicious
Wow, this restaurant is always a great place to celebrate a special occasion but I need to break that habit & come here more often. The creative menu, pleasant atmosphere & attentive service makes from a great time. Just wish we’d gone earlier to see the River better or walk downstairs by the River with cocktails. The best part is all the help I receive to make sure my meal is gluten free, dairy free and still packed with flavor. I even received fresh, warm GF rolls & olive oil. Maple Glazed Salmon was so moist, the crispy octopus is my favorite appetizer & the beet salad was very light & different. We’ll be back soon. Sue was the best server we’ve had in ages in any restaurant but she helped make my birthday dinner a treat.
