Black Angus Steakhouse - Ventura Ratings and Reviews
Everything was superb as always! I got the campfire Feast with my friend. Grilled artichokes did not disappoint. I ordered ribeye with mashed potatoes and loaded potato soup. I realize I am not a fan of loaded potato soup. To me, it was very "sweet," too sweet for my taste, but my friend liked it. The service was great as always.
Since I was alone for Thanksgiving, I wasn't about to cook. Thankfully, Black Angus had a turkey dinner. It tasted good and I appreciated that they had both light and dark meat in the meal. I appreciated having somewhere to go for turkey dinner. Thank you, Black Angus!
We went for Thanksgiving dinner and it was our first visit there. We enjoyed it so much and after taking a look at the menu we decided to attend dinner there on Christmas Eve. I even left my phone there and the waitress had the integrity to turn it in to the front counter to hold until I returned for it. Thank you Black Angus staff.
We were celebrating my mother’s 91st birthday. The service was extremely slow. We were there for over two hours. The waitress would take a glass to refill it and wouldn’t be back for 20 minutes. The filets were a joke. Finally, the waitress forgot the birthday dessert that would have made it a little celebration. On the plus side, the hostess and busboy were both great!
We go here often and have never had a complaint until this trip. I asked for a rib-eye and was given a prime rib (and over cooked for what I asked for at that). When I pointed it out to our server, she argued that "No, its what you asked for" before walking away.
I even get my office there to celebrate birthdays etc... even though the wait can be somewhat lengthy at times. I feel its worth it.
You also can't find a better "deal" than the campfire feast for two, even with the upgrades that my husband and I ALWAYS do! Its marvelous.
The food was, as always, excellent.
Disappointed this time compared to other visits to this restaurant. We were given a table next to the waiting area., so we had lots of traffic passing across a halfwall, plus people waiting to be seated tended to congregate RIGHT THERE so didn't feel comfortable talking. One section of the restaurant is all high-walled booths, which are very quiet and private, so this table in the bar area was, by comparison, very noisy. Luck of the draw, but every other time we've been in the high-walled booth section, so this was striking.
The other challenge was that it took them an extraordinarily long time to get our food out. We've gone their on Friday night before, and meal pacing is always excellent. Not this time. The food was good, but just barely warm enough to enjoy by the time it came out.
The campfire feast is always a favorite when there is a coupon involved. The filet mignon we had was tender and well seasoned. As a diabetic, it is good that you have vegetable options verses more starches. Although I wish you had sugar-free desserts as an option.
We waited a few minutes to be seated for our reservation. The server had a large table with a birthday next to our party of 5. I don't think the management knows how to support staff members when they have a large party. Our server was stressed out and seemed overwhelmed. She didn't apply the coupon for our free kids meals at the end of the meal and crumpled up the bill impatiently when we brought it up to her. The fried zucchini was not very good. The macaroni and cheese for kids is a little too Parmesan cheesy for kids. The margarita was weak and my mother ordered a second one when we got our food and did not receive it until after everyone was finished eating and after the waitress asked about dessert. I have good memories of all of the Black Angus restaurants from when I was younger and I was hoping to share that experience with my children. However, in the end, this experience was expensive and not very good. I expected fine dining but what I got was expensive steak house version of Carrows.
I am a fan of their Grilled artichoke so I bought it and was not disappointed. I ordered ribeye with broccoli and a side salad. The ribeye was cooked to perfection and tasted fabulous. There were two medium-sized pieces of broccoli on the plate and it did not look like a decent size portion of broccoli and those two pieces were undercooked. However, they were fresh. All-in-all I am not disappointed. I go to Black Angus because their ribeye never disappoints me.
People in the front were very friendly when we arrived for our reservation. We were seated within 5 mins of our arrival. The ladies whose helping our server (Jo Ann D), forget to bring sweet&low for our coffee, also there were no saute onions and mushrooms on my steak which I ordered. However, Jo Ann D was very quick to fix the problem. That is why I give our server 5 stars for service.
I'm not that into chain restaurants, but I have to say that the food was really good. The rib eye was so favorable. Green beans and salads top notch. It's not really pretty inside, but if you find yourself in Ventura and want a steak, it was surprisingly good.
All was very good. My New York steak was ordered medium and when the server delivered my steak she asked that I cut it in the middle to make sure it was correct. When it was cut it was closer to well done than medium. She offered to take it back and bring a properly medium cooked steak. I thanked her, however I'm not a complainer and declined her offer. Shortly thereafter the chef/manager came out and agreed that it was not medium. Without any discussion he said he'd take off the charge. That was a big deal to everyone at the table and elevated what might have been a mediocre meal to excellent based on going over the top. Thank you to all involved; you've kept regular customers pleased.
I was so worried about going here after I read the reviews. I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived. After a 5 minute wait we were seated. Our drunk order was quickly taken. Our server was Salyna C. She was super friendly and very efficient. She made it a wonderful night. We ordered the artichokes as an appetizer. They were ok. The steaks were all good. The chocolate torte and cookie were awesome for dessert. The mud pie had too much of a coffee taste for my son. I would definitely go back.
Was visiting the Ventura area and was delighted to find this hidden gem. I was expecting a more upscale ambiance, but the inside was warm and friendly. Not too casual like a Texas Roadhouse, but not too formal like Ruth's Chris.
We have a toddler, and they sat us at a table where it looked like a toddler had been prior, floor was messy, so at first I was really questioning this.
Our waitress came to the table and took our drink order, and was fantastic the entire time.
The food came out perfectly, and the steaks were delicious. I'm a huge fan of beef (no steak sauce for me as it ruins the flavor of beef) and this place did not disappoint. The beef had a great rich flavor to it, I wish there was one of these near me in Michigan.
