Black Angus Steakhouse - Sunnyvale Ratings and Reviews
Used a coupon for a surf-n-turf plus fried shrimp dinner -- good flavors, and really great server (Liz?) ... biggest problem on the evening is that the temperature inside the restaurant was cold. The staff would love to do something about it, but structurally, something in the environmental controls keeps them from heating the place up more when the outside temps drop.
My brother and I tried the Campfire Feast for the first time (had a coupon) and it was well worth it. Shrimp cocktail (I ate it all), ribeye for me and filet mignon for him, not that impressed with the cheesecake for dessert but that might be because we were stuffed to the gills... Great service from Brad (our regular server is Bree but she wasn't working that evening). And they have great iced tea.
Unfortunately, this was the worst Thanksgiving restaurant experience ever. We waited almost an hour for our food...were informed that ours would be the last table receiving turkey because they'd run out (with two hours of dining hours left!)...the majority of the vegetables served to our table were undercooked and raw...it was just awful.
We thought they were being nice about making it up to us by comping 3 of our 8 meals and giving extra desserts, only to be told by Manager that our server would be "paying" for this, as she "shouldn't have served" us this undercooked food. WTH? How does a waitress know if the kitchen is sending out bad food?? This seemed just awful - we tipped her generously to compensate but will NEVER be back.
We felt the price for this dinner was good. When we arrived, we were seated in bar area with TV screens blaring. The service was fair with all the people being accommodated. The food arrived just slightly luke warm and we had to ask for place settings which took a long time. We had to ask for bread which took 20 minutes to reach table. The major complaint is that the food was almost cold. We felt this was not up to the excellent standards of Black Angus other restaurants.
We were seated by the kitchen which wasn't so fun. We got the feeling they wanted us fed and out of there as soon as possible. The turkey, potatoes and dressing were warm, but not hot and the vegetables were cold. I really enjoyed the salad, bread and pumpkin pie! I have eaten at Black Angus many times, but not so much on Thanksgiving. I have enjoyed other meals there better than Thanksgiving's. I know you were very busy that day, and I would still come back to eat there, but not on Thanksgiving.
Visited for Thanksgiving lunch. The turkey dinner was good and a good value. Main problem we had was the wait to get a table. We checked in with the the hostess at least 20 minutes before our reservation time. Ten minutes after our reservation time we were still not seated and went to inquire. We were told "you didn't check in or one of the other girls must have checked you in". No apology given for their error.
We had a reservation for 12:00 on thanksgiving and arrived at 11:50. By 12:20 we were still not seated. We noticed people were coming in with no reservations and being seated ahead of us. When we asked the hostess she checked and said our name had been marked as "seated". We were finally seated at 12:30. No apologies or compensation was offered. I am in a wheelchair so this was very upsetting. Once seated our service and food were excellent.
Never been, so I guess we were expecting more. Kinda disappointed with the wait even with a reservation, and the food presentation. I guess we get what we pay for. But at least now we know. So will probably not come back again. Our server Courtney was great though. She was attentive and friendly.
Even thought I reserved a table for 2 for our date night...We were seated at a booth set up for 6 for just the 2 of us! Oh well.
We ordered their special $19.99 FALL platter. Caesar salad (which cost extra) was served nice & chilled. Bread the first time was not warm & was a bit “hard”. We asked for another bread plate.
Our steaks were served on the cold side (done medium) as were our potatoes. Lobster tail was warm but the dipping butter was not warm! (Like it sat waiting to be served). Shrimps were delicious! Red house wine was tasty. Server made an error on our bill & had to redo it. We noticed that he was not as attentive as other servers. Will we return....not sure!
Normally, Black Angus is our favorite restaurant to visit. For some reason, the night that we picked to visit, it was very busy. So much so, that it took forever to be served. Keep in mind that it was an unusually busy night and there were 10 of us in our party.
It took 15 minutes to receive our drinks and it took another 15 minutes before our order was taken. And then it took another 30 minutes before we got our dinner. Some of the orders were wrong, but rather then complain and have them fix our orders, we decided to keep them because we didn't want to wait another 30 minutes for our food because we were starving by then.
The food is always delicious which is why we come back over and over again. The service is not always this bad, although our favorite server no longer works there.
Yes, we would go to Black Angus again because the food is so good and the service is usually better than this but we have to pick evenings that are not so busy.
We like the atmosphere because we tend to be kind of loud, and the ambiance allows us to be a little noisy and it is very kid friendly.
The cost of the food is reasonable, but I noticed that the portion sizes have decreased recently. Overall, if you like meat and potatoes kind of meals, this is the place for you. They also have the best salmon dinner and some other seafood options. It's not for everyone, but I think the food is so good, you have to give it at least one chance.
Waiter was okay, he tried joking but when my sister's salad was served last it wasn't that funny. Wife's steak looked to thin to be prime rib, second plate of prime rib looked better but was pretty raw in the center. Meat was real pink & she ordered med. well. They took that plate off the bill at least.
Recommend you emphasize how you want your meat cooked & don't be afraid to cut it in the center in front of them just in case.
We dine at the Sunnyvale Black Angus several times each year. We have always enjoyed our dining experience, and feel that the coupon deals are a great value. But this time was our worst experience. Service was extremely slow. We were seated immediately, but between ordering and receiving our orders was at least 30 minutes. We ordered 3 starters. Only 2 came. When the entrees came, we had to remind the waitress about the third starter. For one of the two salmon entrees, the order was for the salmon to be cooked rare with a side of broccoli. The two salmon orders arrived cooked exactly the same. The side of broccoli was missing.
We took advantage of a special promotion, which made it more affordable for us. The restaurant was very busy because of it, so service was a bit slow. We were seated near the bar with all the TV's so it was quite distracting for a "date night". The food was good & our server quite pleasant despite how busy she was.
So this was our first time to this Black Angus...We normally go to the one in Millpetas. The service was much better in Sunnyvale however the food is hands down better at the other one....I wish they both would get on the same page...cost my $250 for 5 people wish I would have gone somewhere else...
My husband and I both ordered the same meal, filet mignon, classic baked potato, and broccoli. The broccoli was yellowed and cold. Put some butter on the broccoli and it wouldn't even melt. The baked potato had sour cream, butter And what was supposed to be chives but instead were green onions. The steak was cooked as ordered but was warm not hot. Not the best quality of meat although fairly tender. My husband complained that his steak had lots of gristle. Service was slow. The waiter came back when we we half way through our meal and asked how it was. I told him about the broccoli and he did bring us another serving that was nice and hot but still yellowed.
I beleive the quality of the food has suffered since we were last here. I do like the quietness of the restaurant but was very disappointed with food this time.
Went for dinner and as usual our prime rib dinner was delicious. However the mashed potatoes could have been creamier, but still tasted good. Our server was very pleasant and attentive. We both enjoyed sharing the mud pie; quite a treat. Highly recommend this restaurant.
