Black Angus Steakhouse - Santa Ana Ratings and Reviews
I use to like this place, but the last two times I have been to Black Angus I have been disappointed.
Right off the top, our waitress took over 20 min. To stop at our table, the restaurant was less than 1/4 full. When she came to get our drink orders, from the 3 of us, she was gone from our table, for over 15 minutes. When sbge returned she only had two of the three ice teas, she said she forgot one of them. She went to go get the third ice tea, she was gone 12 minutes, we placed our orders, all three of us got the same burgers with frenchfry's. Approx 23 minutes later she showed up with the burgers, the issue there was one order was correct, the other two were not, the two that were not had a salad on each, no dressing, we called her back and showed her these two were incorrect, and why. She told us that is what we ordered, i told her we did not order a salad, at that point we ask her for the frenchfry's to be brought to the table and ask if we could have some BBQ sauce. She came back with the sauce and the bill, she charged us for the salads, that We did not order the frenchfry's & the BBQ sauce, she charged all three of us $2.00 each for the BBQ sauce. Myself and my two friends will not return to this restaurant. That is to bad, they used to be good.
Bread was OK just after being warmed but when it cooled was immediately dry and stale. Prime rib sort of rubbery, although not tough. Server checked with us three times total, and had someone help her serve our entrees. I had him take mine back before I touched it to exchange overdone meat for medium rare as I had ordered. Green beans tasted funny, something about the bacon sauce. Brussels sprouts weren't slightly crispy - they were just plain hard/raw. Salad and au gratin potatoes were excellent. Took forever to present, pick up, and ring up our check.
We made a reservation for 7:00 PM. We arrived right at 7:00 and were told that they were behind on reservations, so we had to wait about 15 minutes. Not a huge deal. Once we were seated, the hostess brought water and took drink orders. It took another 10-15 minutes for our waiter to appear and take our order. It WAS a Saturday, but the service was still Kind of slow given the restaurant's reputation for quality.
I ordered the New York Strip rare and my spouse ordered the Salmon. The salmon and the sides were fine, however, my steak was terrible. Very fatty, just a poor piece of meat. For the price, the food was just not very good.. I can get a higher quality steak at Applebees.
On the plus side, our server was very nice, the mixed green salad was delightful and we really liked the warm ambiance of the restaurant. For us though, the main course is the most important thing and it just wasn't very good... We won't be returning.
Normally we get our food quick and the service is top notch. Unfortunately, tonight that wasn’t the case. We sat in the bar area and it took almost 10 minutes before someone came to ask us for our drink order. We placed our drink as well as food orders at the same time. 2 other tables were sat AFTER we had placed our orders. But they received their meals a whole 15 minutes before us. A steak medium, a steak medium well and a salmon shouldn’t have taken almost 35 minutes. Everything for our table seemed to take so much longer than the other tables that came after us.
Used to go there every couple of weeks, prices are higher and quality and portions smaller.
Ordered dinner and asked for extra dressing on my salad, and did not get it ask again did not get it, finally half way through my salad got it, used to love the Mai Tais, no Myers rum.
When Brooklyn was there he always walked around and checked on the customers and made you feel wanted, not the same atmosphere.
Over the last couple years I’ve been frequenting Black Angus restaurants, and this particular one the last time was sub par for me, The waitress was just OK she did not get the order right for a friend of mine, she was preoccupied by another table. She seem to be scarce when we needed her to make some changes after the food has been delivered the food was incorrect.
I’m not sure that I would return to this particular black Angus restaurant.
A visit to Black Angus is a visit to a very pleasant experience. We've gone twice in the past 2 weeks and enjoyed each visit to the point of wanting to return. From the moment we arrived the service was excellent. We were seated in a very short time with a smile, the bread which I might add was served promptly and warm got us to relax with our menus. The staff were very nice and knowledgeable of the menu too. The food we ordered was most excellent and satisfying!
Disappointing.....The bread was hard, they got our order wrong, the service was slow, the quality of the food was poor and the drinks were pretty pricey. We experienced that in the past and they were able to turn things around, but they seem to be at an all time low right now. They must have lost some key kitchen staff, and they had a different manager since the last time we went there..
I had a reservation for my birthday dinner with my husband. We got there and waiting 10 min for the host to even show up. Then we had to wait for him to find a table and run around after 10 more min we just sat in the bar area. The issues were the service not the food. We had to ask twice for a refill which took forever. Asked for bread and dressing for salad and the bread took forever and the dressing was completely forgotten. So I had my salad without it? We saw people who arrived 30 min after us get their food before us and when I asked we finally got our food. The food was wrong after we had been waiting 45 min for it. Asked to speak to the manager and they said yes sure and never ever brought one or offered too. Just decided to give up and we ate and left. After all it was my birthday celebration and I didn't want to be upset anymore. The food was great. Service not at all considering it's not the cheapest restaurant.
Food was only "eh". Server said that the kids Mac and cheese was Kraft (the only kind my kid will eat) and it was not. I ordered a strawberry lemonade that I never received - but the server did add it to our bill. Server seemed annoyed when we asked for anything g and disappeared for long stretches of time.
We had their Feast for Two which is normally $58, but with our coupon it was only $44 so it was a fantastic bargain. It was so much food there was plenty to take home and enjoy the next day. The food is good all American steaks and other common items. Everything was prepared fine. Our waitress was excellent and attentive.
I had the prime rib. Usually the 3/4 lb cut, but went for the pound. Cut was not as good. Majority was tough. Soaking in the jus did help some. Server was efficient, but not affable. Felt like items were slung onto table as she passed by to other guests. Last visit my server had more tables and was still attentive.
The food is always great, but I don't know if they happen to get a new chef or not because the was exceptionally good on this visit. The service was good, but the server was not as great as we have had in the past as far as first taking our order, then bringing stuff that we had requested and getting refills on drinks.
I received an invitation from Black Angus saying that they would give me a free steak, up to $20.99 in celebration of my birthday. Of course, that's a great deal, so my husband took me for filet mignon and lobster for my birthday dinner. Black Angus is one of our favorite restaurants and, even tough they closed our local Lake Forest restaurant, we gladly drive to Santa Ana for this awesome restaurant. The ambiance, great food (always the freshest) and always cooked just perfect, the large seating areas and the friendly service just keep us coming back again and again! And our waitress, Delany was excellent!! Thank you again, Black Angus for a perfect dining experience!! ~Sue & Joe Macy
Have been frequenting this location for over 30 years and it is always excellent. Great food, great prices, and not too noisy. The steaks are always cooked to perfection, lots of choices in cuts as well a sides. OK drink menu, lots of beer choices. Don't like the desserts, ever, but then I don't go to Black Angus for that purpose. Love that you can book a reservation through Open Table, makes life very easy.
We went for a birthday celebration just my Sister and myself. It was on a Friday night around 7:30 pm. Our service at the table was okay. The waitress didn't really look happy while she served our table. Their was a few things she kept forgetting and we waited quite a long time for our steak meals. My steak was kinda tasty after I cut it open both our steaks looked burnt. I ordered asparagus in which I only got like 5 pieces. The bake potatoes were so small and over done. My sister and I are twins and I live out of town so I asked the young guy at the front desk to sing to us because I wanted to embarrass my twin- sister. No one came to our table and the waitress disappeared all the time. We did notice the restaurant looked emptied and most the servers were gone. We left at 8: 45 pm so at this trip we were a little disappointed.
