Black Angus Steakhouse - San Diego Friars Rd. Ratings and Reviews
Server was excellent. We always enjoy eating at the Black Angus. The walls are high around each table giving the feeling you are alone. It is so quiet so it was very enjoyable being able to talk to the person on the other side of the table. Most restaurants play very loud music which makes me just want to leave. Server was excellent. Sorry I did not get his name.
We have been to this Black Angus before and enjoyed the food and service ; this Monday 1/8/18 for some reason Lunch was unusually busy we were glad we had reservations had nowhere to go. The service and food were good as usual , lunch just took a little long than normal .
I was taking a friend out for a long overdue special celebration. We wanted prime rib but have been disappointed in the prime rib at other restaurants in the area. We ordered the 1 lb cut and it was wonderful. Cooked to perfection. I don't think I have ever had a bad meal at this location. I also love the fact that you can carry on a conversation with your guests. Most restaurants are too noisy these days. Hats off to the management at Friars Road!
Black Angus Friars Road San Diego has been one of our favorites for many years now. Always GREAT SERVICE and tasty steaks, fish, entrees, desserts and cocktails! If you enjoy wine, bring your own bottle with you, corkage is only $10 per bottle. Highly recommend this BA location for lunch or dinner!!!
Reservations save long waits. Friendly, inviting reception and wait staff. Efficient, accurate order taking and delivery. Our waitress graciously suggested drink, appetizer and dinner selections. She also assisted with dessert decisions! Food was served hot and as requested (Medium rare & Medium). The new fresh fruit drink spritzer options are delicious! We’ll be back!
Christmas Eve dinner not as I had hoped. Tried of the fancy dressy places we usually go we decided to take grandpa to his favorite spot. 6:45 reservations and still waited 30 minutes. I expected that as it’s a holiday. I did not expect to be seated in the bar and at a table ment for 4 ( we were 5). When we asked the hostess if we could please be seated in the main dining room she rudely told us that they are seating the bar as part of the dining room. Well it isn’t. She said if we wanted to wait an unknown time we could do that. Sick of waiting so we stayed at crowded table with TVs playing.
Atmosphere very disappointing.
Food as always was plenty and good. Service started great but between appetizers being cleared and mains arriving took almost 30 minutes. Seemed like server forgot about us. All in all this trip was just Ok
Party of 4. Christmas Eve dinner. No crowd. Seemed like skeleton crew. One muffin sized bread for four people? Good selection of sides. Ribs good. Tri tip cooked to order, still tough. Ribeye steak, cooked to order, poor taste. Half of it taken home and still sitting in fridge (12/27). Prime rib, well it started out as a 8oz cut on one side and angle cut to something lighter on the finish side. The tableware knives were pretty dull, we were literally tearing into our meat. I should have brought my sharpening stone. We had eaten at Outback a couple weeks before and will say their prime rib was the real deal. Not here. Will not recommend Black Angus Friars Rd.
Excellent food for the price- especially the steaks!
Background music sucks & just adds annoying noise
Servers are always good very attentive.
Seafood is OK (good), but better tasting at Reb Lobster for a cheaper price
So eat steak at a steak place (Black Angus & eat seafood at a seafood place( Reb Lobster)
This is one of the last of the good steak houses in this town-- it always has good food and the seating is booths set aside for privacy--- and now the reservations make it easier to get seated in a timely manner in a good Booth.
The service is always friendly and efficient.. and the servers are well informed.
Came for Thanksgiving dinner. Everyone was very pleasant and helpful despite them being very busy. Reservation was for 8:15 and we were seated by 8:30. They ran out of some sides for the Thanksgiving dinner but I believe they gave us extra turkey in place of that. Everything was delicious and we went home with leftovers. Great experience and I would definitely recommend them!
The serves was great, even though she showed zero emotions, which understandable for busy thanksgiving night, she was super fast and very polite. Food definitely was prepared in advance and mashed potatoes were cold but still I was surprised with the quality. Overall very satisfied with the experience.
Thanksgiving meal special, wasn’t special. Reservations were 30 minutes behind. They sat us 20 minutes late and the table they chose wasn’t cleared off yet. They ran out of sweet potatoes and substituted mash potatoes. Entire plate was cold, except for the mash potatoes they substituted. Then they served us frozen pumpkin pie for desert. Felt bad for the wait staff as they were clearly understaffed.
We usually go there mid week to avoid the crowds. They gave us two 30% off coupons to use before the next 30 days.
Only saving grace was the leftovers were good the next day after microwaving them.
Truly disappointed. But things happen.
We go to another Black Angus with no problem, but this one is mismanaged. It was overbooked, had to wait 30 minutes to be seated and that was because we gave up and went to the bar. Food came cold, sent it back, still cold on arrival. And this location’s rest room is always a mess. 😩
This was thanksgiving and the place was a madhouse - elbow to elbow people! Even with the crowd, we were only 5 minutes late for our table (party of 5). And then it was downhill from there. Took forever for someone to take our orders. Two of our party ordered shrimp cocktail, which they never got. Ever body agreed the salads were poor. There was one prime rib order, and it was not up to Black Angus standards. One order was lobster tail with filet mignon, and the dinner was not hot! He also ordered extra hot melted butter for his lobster, and he got extra butter for his bread. The only 2 dinners that were acceptable were salmon with rice. Usually, Black Angus is one of our favorite places, but never again for thanksgiving.
