Black Angus Steakhouse - San Diego Friars Rd. Ratings and Reviews
Steak was ordered rare and came out very tough and basically inedible. Food was under seasoned and food service timing was way off. We waited 10 mins to be greeted at the table, 10 mins after ordering for specialty drinks, 10 mins later we got our salads, followed a minute later by our entrees. Desert was ordered once we got our entrees, and came out 10 minutes after we were completely done eating. Not sure if it was the server's fault, it seemed like maybe more of a kitchen, bar and lack of staff on the floor issues. But either way I won't be returning. I still tipped about 16% to 17% despite the sub par birthday dinner for my mom.
Enjoyed a nice steak dinner with my husband. We opted to sit in the bar area (where it's first come, first served) so we could watch the baseball playoff game. Food was really good. My only complaint is that it would have been nice to get cloth napkins & not paper napkins. I'm not sure if we should have asked for them or if they just don't have them anymore. Other than that, we enjoyed our dinner which was satisfying & very reasonably priced.
Black Angus is usually a treat; it's more expensive than other restaurants we go to, and enjoy this as a get-together with friends. Was a little disappointed in this visit. The potato skins were great, as usual, and there was plenty of food. But both my son's prime rib and my "filet" were not cooked as ordered, and there were a couple of other mistakes with the order. Additionally, the quality of the food was not up to par. For example, the "homestyle mashed potatoes" were the consistency of a baked potato that had been dumped out and mashed up. The filet was only about 1/2" thick. Our waitress was great and quick to refill drinks, etc.
This was the worse time we have had, drinks not made with proper mixes, food was very skimpy, very slow waitressing,we have been here before the times we have been here before 1 time was the best.We have had parties of 10 on any occasion, now our friends refuse to come here pretty sad.Very disappointed.Took an hour and a half for us to receive our meals again very disappointed.
The ceasar salad was ok. The coleslaw...tasteless. The fillet mignon...DELICIOUS as it was cooked to perfection! ...
Although the carpeting was vacuumed while we were eating, to ensure cleanliness...I certainly don’t think that’s when it should be done. A discreet sweep is much classier.
It was a bit slow, but it was understandable for a busy Friday night. The reason for 3 star overall rating is the 3% surcharge.
$3 out of $100 is not a lot, but considering 7.75% for sales tax, 15+% for tips, basically you have to pay at least 25% extra on top of the food cost.
I have no compliant about the food/service.
Black Angus is a good, basic steakhouse with generous portions, and a good selection of appetizers and side dishes; nothing fancy, just good food. Booths with high backs make it good for quiet conversation and intimate dining. Uninspired wine and beer selections, but there are always some that we like. With readily available coupons, the pricing is very affordable. Service is good, though on busy nights, may be a bit slow. TV's in the bar (with closed captions and sound turned off) show a variety of live sports. It tends to be noisy in the bar, so not great for conversation. Great happy hour prices on drinks and appetizers.
Met expectations for Black Angus. I was a bit disappointed when trying to be healthy I opted for Broccoli instead of Mac and Cheese and I only got two pieces of broccoli. Other than that, service was friendly (but slow) and the steak was cooked to order (rare).
I liked the service providers at Black Angus; they were friendly and efficient in delivering us to our seats and taking orders in a courteous manner. The facility shows signs of deferred maintenance. The carpet and seats show signs of wear. We sat in a booth and the seating material was worn through. The server was up beat and had a cheerful voice. For the cost of the meals, more attention should be paid to keeping the facility looking fresh. It is clear that management puts in time training the employees on the proper way to deliver the product and to give off a friendly vib. Parking seems ample even on busy days and the building is kept at the right temperature even on the warmest days. The signage at the front of the building could use some freshening also because the sun fads signage and someone needs to schedule this work on a regular basis.
I like the coupons sent by this restaurant because it is an incentive to take my entire family for lunch after church and during the week. The cooking staff are unerring in cooking steaks to the perfection.
