Black Angus Steakhouse - Montclair Ratings and Reviews
Black Angus is back. At one point I had given up on BA. But decided to give it another try. I was pleasantly surprised how amazing the food was. From the vegetables to the appetizers to the meat and seafood, everything was fabulous. I plan on going back every weekend.
We were greeted promptly. The first table/booth offered was a little too noisy--closer to a lot of foot traffic. We asked to be seated elsewhere, and the 2nd table was too close to the kitchen, but not as much loud conversation---better but still not quite what we had in mind. The staff was very polite, and found another table in a very quiet section; we just had to wait a few minutes until the table was cleared off. Staff was very understanding. We wanted to be able to have conversation where we could hear one another. Two members of our party are hard of hearing and do not like a lot of noise. Staff and the waitress were very nice and very helpful, which is one reason that we have decided to come to this place, even though it is not close to our house.
The waitress had a great personality but I've never waited so long to get our drinks and meal at your restaurant before. For some reason, this day everything was super super slow coming out. While waiting for our drinks she kept saying "we're waiting on the bartender" and I really don't know what the excuse was for the tardiness of the food.
I had a 6:45pm reservation. I got there early and was seated shortly after a short wait. Our waiter was good and too our order for drinks and dinner. What I like was the manger walked around asking how we were doing and how was the food. The food was cooked right and still got when they brought them plates out.
Overall a very nice experience.
We have dined her in the past and it used to be better. Our table had recently been cleaned when we were seated but the seats and the table were still damp. We had to wait for someone to dry off the seats since it was too wet to sit on. The service was very slow. My husband's drink sat empty for 10 minutes and we finally had to flag down someone for a refill Then it took at least 5 more minutes to get the refill. Food was slow to be served. My husband ordered the pork chop and it was tough, and not very tasty. The filet mignon was good. We would only go to Black Angus if we had a coupon and we will try a different location next time.
We arrived on a Saturday around 5 pm. It was pretty busy; luckily we had reservations. I requested one of the larger tables that can be moved, but the only one open was back by the kitchen. It was very noisy, and it was hard to talk over the crashing sounds of dishes being thrown into the washing area. There was a constant parade of servers going by also.
The food was pretty good - we had the campfire feast with sirloin and N.Y. steaks, both were cooked perfectly and hot on the plate! Our server was attentive and kept everything coming. There was a bit of a wait for the steaks of about 15 minutes or so.
We made reservations for 5 pm on a Saturday night so because the time was early in the evening, and the restaurant wasn't crowded at that time, we really couldn't tell if having a reservation made any difference in our wait time or a table or not. The food was excellent, however, it took about half an hour after we ordered to get our food. Only one member of our party had to send his steak back because it wasn't cooked the way he had requested, but everyone else's food was fine. The food and service were excellent, but the bar noise was a little loud.
I'm a little disappointed. Ordered the Prime Rib med-rare, came out bloody & cold, and veggies were cold. Couldn't find our waitress for 5+ minutes, so had to flag down the hostess.
She took my plate & came back rather quickly with the same meat, now brown on the outside......yet it was still cold.....and yes, Veggies were cold again too.
Again, couldn't find our waitress, so asked another server for the manager. Told him what happened, what I expected, and asked for something else.
I'm not sure if I'm more irritated at the fact that he didn't apologize once, or that he blamed it on the kitchen.
Look, I'm not looking for anything free, but if your paying good money for eating out, there is a level of service that should be extended from the staff.
There was no compelling reason the server or manager left me with that would make we want to return for another time.
