Black Angus Steakhouse - Monrovia Ratings and Reviews
After 40 years Blank Angus still is delivering good beef. It's a lot quieter these days as the crowd is only 40% of what it was in the 70s and 80s. I suppose it's because eating this type of food has fallen out of fashion. Too bad because they do a good job with their menu. i don't know if adding a huge micro-brew assortment and redoing the bar area as a typical sports bar (Huge TVs & attractive bar workers, etc) would be the ticket to success. Perhaps they should promote themselves more to the nearby technology center.
We had a large party and had a nice long table to accommodate everyone together. It was off in a separate area so it felt like we had our own private dinner. Being that we were off from the general seating we were easy to be forgotten so we had to remind the wait staff about drink refills when they came back to check on us. Other than that, the food was great, wait staff were very nice and helpful, most of the orders came back correctly, and our servers even added a special touch by singing happy birthday to my mom for her birthday and included a chocolate chip cookie w/ice cream.
This is the second time that we've come to the restaurant for this specific occasion because we enjoyed our meal and had a positive experience the last time. I am happy to say that once again we have come away with a good meal, good time and a positive experience!
Just say no. Bad food (overcooked, tough steak), extremely slow service (1 hr to receive our food) and high prices. My companions meal, short ribs, had extra bones, very little meat but a lot of fat and gristle. In short, go next door to BJ's for a good meal. This place was awful.
Food was good, but our server was horrible.
We ordered appetizers and drinks.......then after about 5 minutes....we ordered dinner. The drinks were slow to arrive, but then the dinner salads came BEFORE THE APPETIZER! What an idiot!! I told our waiter when he brought the appetizer that if our main course came before we were finished with salads and appetizer.....he'd have one very irate customer!
Our waiter went on to brag about the fact that he worked at Black Angus as a server, but at Red Lobster as a manager!!! I feel sorry for those under him at Red Lobster !! This guy had no clue how to serve people for dinner.
Had Christmas Eve dinner there after services. Got busy in early evening, but that was to be expected. Thus the reason we had reservations. Our food server was "stretched" a little due
to increase of diners from 6pm to 8:30pm. So, our service became slow at times, good thing
we weren't in a hurry. Thanks Black Angus for a good time!
Our experience was fabulous !! We could not have asked for better service. Our server picked up right away that we were friends who hadn't seen each other in a while and were trying to catch up. He only interrupted us when it was necessary. the food was delicious and served in a timely manner.
We had a reservation time and had to wait 20-30 minutes past our designated time. Very few selections for vegetarians. My filet mignon was perfect but the other steak at the table was still bleeding when medium well was requested. Potatoes were disappointing.
While waiting there were children running all over the place. Not the restaurant's fault, but still annoying.
The women's restroom was an absolute mess. I told the hostess and received a very curt, "thanks."
Planning on searching for another venue for our next celebratory meal.
I was very disappointed in our visit to the restaurant. Our waitress only came to the table a few times and it took forever. We asked for utensils and a soda refill and it took over 15 minutes. She was standing around talking and laughing with two other waiters; this angered me. The tables around us were also visibily annoyed. The food was cold and not what you expect for a holiday dinner. Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone and am warning my friends and family not to go.
I took my wife to Black Angus quite a few years ago when a group of prom teenagers had dinner there. We were a little disappointed with all the noise and slow service at the time. Since then, I've asked my wife if she'd like to have dinner there and she refused. Recently, I received a coupon for the $44 meal for two and took my daughter and it was very good. I since received the $19.99 steak and lobster coupon and asked my wife again and she gave in and went. The meal was excellent, no noise and service was great. We will continue to patronize Black Angus.
Sadly I made a mistake by choosing this restaurant for my best friends birthday. The room was very dark with very dim lighting. The service was slow and the table was sticky (dirty). Although I had made a reservation, before I could tell the hostess she had grabbed two menus and proceeded to seat us at a table. I walked back up to the front to tell her that I had made a reservation and was celebrating a birthday. I told the waiter about the birthday and he did bring us a cookie with ice cream after our meal, but told us that they were out of candles. I would and will never recommend anyone going there for a special occasion.
I was embarrassed to have made this mistake.
The meal was good but we liked the old way of serving the garden salad and one of our party had a bad lobster tail, but we did not say anything to the waiter.. We love Black Angus and was
kind of disappointed in the food this time but will continue to come back.
