Black Angus Steakhouse - Fountain Valley Ratings and Reviews
Visited the Fountain Valley Black Angus on February 15, 2018. I used Open Table to make a reservation and was seated in a few minutes. The server appeared immediately and took our drink order. The food arrived hot and tasted great. The server stopped by several times to fill our drinks and ask if we needed anything.
Everything was going fine until my wife found two tiny pieces of glass in her margarita. There was no charge for her meal, which was the decent thing to do, but even so, it kind of put a damper on our dining experience. I can understand how these things may happen, but it's still a mystery to us how glass got into her drink. Surely there must be precautions to keep that from happening again.
We had a previous bad experience at this place and they gave us a gift card so we tried it again. We had the two entree special for 2. I had a filet mignon and she had tri-tip. Both were tough to chew. I could understand a tri-tip since that's a hard cut of meat to cook but very disappointed with filet. It really didn't look like a quality filet. It was hard to cut in places and mostly tough to chew. Only part of it was okay. It was cooked ok med rare and had nice color. I don't know where they get their meat but it's not very tender. I rarely complain but I did this time and the manager came over and apologized and adjusted the bill which was nice. But two bad tries I don't think I'm going back for a third. There are too many other places that have steak dinners that are reasonably priced and usually decent.
The service was really slow and not very friendly. The food was not very good and not cooked correctly. Part of the table had to wait an additional 15 minutes for their food. The manager came out and didn’t even offer anything to compensate. I heard other customers complaining as well.
We have eaten at this Black Angus for years. The trip before for this visit we experienced some decline in the quality of the food. We decided to give the restaurant another chance. My husband loves their salad - it is cold with crisp lettuce, excellent croutons, tomatoes, good dressing and a cold plate and fork. This visit the salad was warm and it had different greens, very little tomatoes and the fork and plate were room temperature. I order broccoli along with a baked potato and neither was prepared satisfactory. The prime rib was good but half the thickness as prior visits. I eat my meat rare so the thin presentation made it not as rare as I prefer. Needless to say it was our last visit to this chain.
We were celebrating our parents 60th anniversary.
Everything was fine but not superlative.
Our server spoke a bit too fast for our elderly parents, didn't ask for drinks orders...
But really was very sweet.
At any rate, Mom and Dad enjoyed themselves.
So let's say it went well.
We tried the new cauliflower starter, it was good. The steak we ordered was cooked ok and had a pretty good flavor. The potatoes however, were cold and hard. We had to send them back. By the time they came back out, we were almost done eating. Every time we come here to eat there is some kind of problem with the food, either the steak is not cooked right or the potatoes are cold. This is a steak house. You should be able to get the basics. Aren't servers supposed to check to make sure the food is presentable?
Now our 4 th visit to this location and we are considered regulars... great food at reasonable pricing.
Always have some sort of special going on........great price on steak, lobster and shrimp for $19.99
Great place to relax, have well made steaks and drinks
Mark, the GM, makes us most welcome on each visit and always checks on our table. Thank you!
Service was good, and waiter very friendly, but food was cold, and “hot” tea was even served at room temperature. Request for second cup of “hot” tea resulted in likewise being served cold. Chicken was undercooked, and vegetables were hard.
Won’t be returning to this particular Black Angus again.
Everything was perfect! From the time we arrived, everyone was very accommodating. We had dinner reservations and arrived early for drinks. Set us up in a bar booth instead, let us have a few drinks and brought us a delicious dinner. Service and food was great and it was New Years Eve!!!!
Every NYE my husband and I go there with friends to celebrate. Always great service and delicious food. They take reservations and coupons on NYE. We always get the Campfire Feast for two. Includes appetizer, choice of entree (we always get Prime Rib) and dessert for $45. Highly recommend.
Waitress, although new, was outstanding; helpful at all times. Because it was Christmas Eve, restaurant is totally busy. Last year we went to the same restaurant 30 minutes later and food wasn't terrific. This time we chose 6:00pm, and we were right; great food selection. It is highly recommended to reserve in advance, which we did (last year as well as this year). It isn't that they start running out of food, but you aren't going to get the right doneness, if you are ordering prime rib; last year we wanted medium rare, and got well done and last year they still couldn't get it right. Great job this year!
I wish I could remember our waiter's name, but unfortunately, I do not. But he was the best waiter we have had, anywhere, for a very long time. He was friendly, very efficient, and attentive. Thank you for helping make our dinner a great night out. As usual, our food was excellent.
Food was good. Service so-so. I feel when you are dining at a steakhouse and order a salad, it should be automatic that you are offered fresh ground pepper. Disappointed that sparkling apple cider not available for my son for the second time we are here celebrating a special occasion. Seems odd that a restaurant with a full bar would not carry. Ordered Brussels sprouts as a premium side with extra cost. Not sure why these would cost more than a baked potato, especially due to the very small serving. They were way undercooked and hard as rocks. Had waitress remove off our check. She was nice enough to offer a complimentary deaert.
