Black & Blue Steakhouse Ratings and Reviews
Have to say very disappointing! Appetizer Pork shoulder was dry and the pickled vege came on the plate was hard and not tasty, entree sous vide striploin lack seasoning and most importantly the whole plate was luke warm..service was good unfortunately the food was Bad, oh yeah Creasy finger prints around the rim of plates was not good to look at...
Sorry I normally don’t like to complaint.
Have only been once, and was during Dine Out Vancouver. Positive things: wine pairing was delicious, beautiful setting, music could be heard but did not interfere with conversations, and fair portions. Negative: all our steaks were extremely fatty (not marbled, just fat on one end) and it was a bit tough, even though cooked pink. Server was... odd. We were told one thing, but received different side veg. Not very good at accommodating dietary restrictions... perhaps because of set menu. All in all, still a great night.
My husband and I went to Black & Blue for dine out 2018 on Jan 19. We have been B&B for several times and returning with high expectation. However, we felt really disappointed.
The appetizer is soaked in picked sour taste, the salad is tasteless and boring.
The main dish beef was bland and tasteless, and the waygu upgrade is better but we found hard and sharp pieces that cut his mouth, really bad........
Only good thing is the service and dessert, really disappointed with the standard the chef put in for the dishes in a premium restaurant.
We were here for Dine Out with friends and we all ordered the slow roasted striploin at various degrees of rareness. The slow roasted turned to be the "boil in the bag" sous vide which does not give the beef that wonderful seared flavour. We ordered our steaks to be medium rare, medium well and well done. The waiter assured us that the person requesting the well done would have his steak finished in the broiler, to get it to be "well done". When the server brought our steaks, he seemed unable to differentiate between them and when we cut into them, we realized they were all cooked the same. My husband sent his back to be torched. (When you want well done, any level of red is revolting.) It came back and when he started eating it, it didn't look any different from before. So he ate the edges and the veg. I complained and the section manager was very apologetic and they made an adjustment to our bill. BUT a restaurant that prides itself to be on this level should not have these problems. And I found the meal to be rather mediocre overall, not considering the problems with the steak.
We were promptly seated for our reservation and got a lovely booth. Our great experience at the restaurant was highly due to our server Marcel Cazes who was knowledgeable and was very generous with his time and experience to make recommendations on the menu for us. One of our best dining experiences as we have had!
Two of us went for a casual lunch. We ordered a tuna appetizer and rib-eye, a fish dish for entree. The fish dish tastes pretty good. However the ribeye is totally over cooked. We ordered medium, but it tastes even harder than well done. when it cut up there’s no red inside at all. I was expecting it’s one of their most famous dish, but it’s quite disappointing, not as good as a fast chain Keg...but the service is good as always.
We had a very sincere waiter Bob McLeod who gave us excellent recommendations and did not hurry us. He helped to make this evening very enjoyable. The only thing that I was disappointed in was that I asked for a romantic table for my husband’s birthday and I did not think that the table location was very nice- there were lots of cozy booths. They gave me a table near the front window very close to some other couples. I should have complained but it was a special evening and I did not want to say anything.
This was our 2nd time at black and blue... I have to say I was disappointed both times not only by the overly pretentious ambience (think 30- something stock broker who just made a big sale and wants to show off his new Armani suit but opts for the $250/hr escort service )...but mostly by the very mediocre and almost bad food! The $70 ribeye was 10oz fat and maybe a b-grade 6oz beef... the broccolini was boring steamed, carrots sweeter than I will stand for a dessert and the lobster tail ever so slightly raw! The only good items were the spicy garlic prawns (unfortunately they arrived at the table a little short of luke warm temperature) and the peppercorn sauce ...
I won’t be coming back Black & Blue and I won’t be recommending you ....
Disappointed with the Caesar Salad which is such a simple dish to prepare.....
This time the salad had too much salt , cheese n the lettuce was all wilted instead of being crisp!
My friend’S Steak Diane.the sauce was just a bit of gravy, that’s not Steak Diane. The gravy should have garlic, butter , pepper , brandy flambé etc, etc, I have had better food here a few months back when I was entertaining.
Another outstanding outing at Black and Blue. I had the beef wellington and my wife had the Canadian ribeye. We also had some mashed potatoes and prawns and a tableside-made caesar salad. Just amazing food. We took a risk on a bottle of wine we'd never had before but we should have asked for a recommendation from our VERY knowledgeable server. That guy knew everything and he was fantastic. Our wine was okay but that's not the place to take a risk like that. I didn't see any Nebbiolo but we should have asked. If you don't know what you're doing, ask the server at Black and Blue. After the meal they brought us some complimentary butter cake for my wife's birthday. A sensational dinner experience. Quite expensive (for me) but worth it to go once a year or whatever. If you have the means and you love steak, go there a lot.
Ashleigh, our server was super nice and friendly, wonderful service and great food! Went to this place twice in a roll for dinner during our short stay in van. Prefect prep and seasoning for or Wagyu steak and great lobster tail. Mac and cheese sticks was also heavenly. Thank you for a great experience!
This was our second time here on our vacation to Vancouver! We loved it last year, and again you did not disappoint this time either. We love the energy and the service is outstanding. I am only mad that I don't recall our servers name, pretty, late 20's brunette who was on her way to Chile soon for vacation! She was outstanding! The food was a solid 9, the only thing we didn't love was the au gratin potatoes. They were good just not on par with the other options. Looking forward to our next trip to Vancouver with a night at Black & Blue!
Caitlyn was our server. She was superb. I was there with my 17 year old son, whom she made feel very welcome and engaged in conversation about University choices for him. My 13 year old daughter was not feeling well and Caitlyn offered her hot water with lemon or a soothing tea. She was so on top of things, but not pushy at all. Amazing meal. Great food and great presentation. The caesar salad made at the table was an art show on it's own. Great wine selection. That is our restaurant of choice when in Vancouver. I find that the Global Group restaurants never disappoint.
I’ll start it off by saying it was our first experience at Black and Blue. We arrived at the restaurant and checked in at the host on the bottom floor. There was 3 of them together and one of them let us know that “someone will be over to bring us up” as we requested the roof top patio.
We waited and waited and checked back in and by their reaction you could tell they forgot. The gentleman at the desk called the elevator for us.
We arrived at our table promptly. It was so cold and the service team moved the heater away from our table to another table so we requested to move closer to the fire. The hostess that sat us down was lacking genuine warmth and you could tell that she was new in service from her awkwardness. Usually they at least pull the chair for you. She waited for us to sit down and get settled and awkwardly placed the napkins on our laps. There was something not very warm about her. The manager let us know we could move to the warmer spot and was super welcoming and personable.
Emily was our server and our experience was amazing apart from the heavily salted steaks we had. We ate them without the sauce on the plate as it was overwhelming. We had to pack it to go for our dogs we could not finish them. We should have spoke up but we were full from our appies (which were amazing) and were in a good mood from the bottle of wine we ordered. It was before Christmas and we can see everyone working very hard. Next time we will sure to bring it up on the spot as we surely expected better from a steakhouse at this price range.
Emily and the team accommodated a birthday cake request and it was amazing and made the night special. Thank you.
Very very bad experience.
1. We were told by reception that we can stay just for 1.5 hours due to Christmas holidays.
2. We ordered draft beer but the beers served were very warm. Never experienced before.
3. We asked a waitress who took care of us to switch to new one, but we didn't get new one because their beer server didn't work.
We understand until here no problem. It happens.
4. We asked the waitress for another drinks but we needed to have half an hour to get those even though we can stay for 1.5 hours...she never said sorry or apologized and also she obviously prioritized another customers than us. We disappointed and asked her to have check. She was just like "ok beautiful". She was super wonderful.
