Black & Blue Steakhouse Ratings and Reviews
The food was fine...wasn't bad but wasn't overly impressive. My scallops were excellent but the tuna appetizer was VERY bland and boring. The 3 other diners I was with found their dinner to just be good. Probably would not go back as there was nothing overly memorable about the night. We had made reservations and were told at 4 separate times but 4 different people that we needed to be finished with out table within the 2 hour window. Although we were not planning on staying the whole night, this boarded on offensive almost as if we were not deemed good enough because 2 of the diners ordered off the "Dine-Out" menu. On top of that, the restaurant was on 1/3 full. The drinks were just okay but fairly priced.
Overall, the experience was fine...probably won't go back and I am indifferent on recommending it to others.
Food was delicious! Very yummy tenderloin. Waiter was a little off, he was very surprised that we only want one wine pairing to split between the two of us, guess he's never seen a light weight before! Very energetic and loud inside, felt almost like a club. Maybe will return during summer to dine on the roof, must be very nice.
We were very happy with our first dining experience at Black & Blue. The restaurant was absolutely packed. They were a little late with our reservations, but that was graciously handled by the hostess and manager. We were seated in a booth in Lloyd's area. As busy as he was, I can tell you this young man takes great pride in everything that he does. Great sense of humour, witty and urbane. He ensured my daughter's nut allergy was addressed at every stage of the dinner. The food was done to perfect.
We'll be back!
Not impressed with the food that they served. Wedge salad was just OK, my steak was good but my wife's lamb was not, almond cake dessert was horrible. Not just me, all 4 of us hated it. One bite each and pushed it away. We had to order a separate dessert (bananas foster which was also mediocre). When the bill came, we were being charged for 8 of these horrible little almond desserts.
Pointed it out to the waiter and he made the adjustment. $20 overcharge that wouldn't get noticed by someone that doesn't review their bill. ALWAYS check your bill! Anyway, overall a very disappointing dinner, have decided we will forego any future 'Dine outs' and pay the extra for a meal of our choice. You're really only saving a few bucks but have to eat some poor options.
We showed up 15 minutes prior to our reservations, it was a Friday night during Dine Out, so we expected we would have to wait. We were surprised to see a few table by the front window that were set and nobody at them. We were told our table wasn't reset yet. So we came back in 15 minutes the there wasn't anywhere to wait. We were actually seated at the same table we saw 15 minutes prior.
The location wasn't ideal as part of the table is blocked by a wall so provides a sound barrier but the other seat is beside the elevator so we found it difficult to hear each other without one person feeling like they were shouting in a small area. Regardless, it was a busy night and the restaurant decor was nice.
We ordered a bottle of Perrier water and it took 10 minutes to arrive. Then ordered wine and our meal. We ordered off the dine out menu so the appetizers arrived promptly but we didn't see our server for over 45 minutes. I had a salad and while I liked the combination of textures and flavours there was way too much dressing.
Our entrees arrived and were cooked to our specifications. It was a great cut of meet but the sides were uninspired. I did enjoy the entree but the service again was poor and we had our plates finished for over 15 minutes before the server showed up. Our server also appeared to list with the other table in our section too- he ended up missing getting them more water, they had to ask and a bussed or other server brought out there dessert and midway through the server showed up with some expecting them not to have it.
Overall we did enjoy the food, but, were very disappointed with the service from start to finish. After paying for our meal our server did even say anything he just walked away (I'm assuming he saw that we didn't tip him 15% when I'm surprised we tipped him at all)
Came during Dine Out Vancouver. The hostess seemed a bit confused. When we checked in i let them know it was a table for 4 under my name and the reservation was for 6:30pm. She brings me and my gf to a table for two....we politely tell her it is a party of 4. She then tells another hostess to bring us upstairs to another table. This hostess then proceeds to bring us to yet another table for 2.....we tell her that it is a party of 4 and she looks very confused. Either way, we finally get a table for 4 and 2 seconds after being seated the waiter comes and asks what we would like to drink. We let him know that we have not even looked at the menu yet. He then tells us that the restaurant would need the table back in an hour and a half. Honestly, this was a slightly bad first impression I received. I understand it's a busy time of year but I've never felt so rushed to eat dinner before.
Anyway, the food was good we didn't end up ordering from the dine out menu because a 5oz steak just wasn't going to cut it. The prime rib was delicious, mac n cheese sticks were way too rich, mushrooms were good, crab dip was good, butter cake was good. Everything but the service was great! Won't be back though as it's over priced and I can get a better experience at The Keg for less.
Came here for lunch on an inclement day, but the Roof area was nice & warm. It's obviously really nice when it isn't covered, but it still made for a comfortable dining experience. I had one of the flatbreads, while my friend had the B&B burger. The food came out quickly, & the taste didn't disappoint, as usual
Staff were fantastic, food was delicious. I had one of the best tenderloin steaks and their yam fries are so, so good. I don't know what they do to them, but I have never had such tasty yam fries. They have a great happy hour menu too!
It is a beautifully laid out restaurant with large booths you can cozy up in and great bars both up and downstairs.
Great service! The manager was very welcoming and he kept on walking around the restaurant ensure all the patrons were satisfied with their meals. Definitely overshadowed the waiter as he offered even better service than our waiter. Waiter was definitely busy throughout the evening. He didn't have time to process our payment but he had his colleague do it. Shows that he is considerate in not leaving his patrons waiting.
Will definitely be returning.
Atmosphere was excellent and service was outstanding. Our steak came medium rare when I asked for it to be medium and the butter cream cake dessert was dry and not good. I do believe you should go and try this restaurant at least once and think perhaps they just had a bit of a bad food day
The restaurant had a vibrant feel and we were seated at a prime window location. Service was attentive and informative. The suggestion of lamb shanks was spot on delicious! The tenderloin was juicy and flavourful, but a bit small. It was an enjoyable meal and I would definitely return to try other menu items.
The tenderloin steak was delicious. The service was warm and friendly even though it was the first time of dine out Vancouver and the restaurant looked swarmed.
If I were to rank all the steakhouses that I would revisit in Vancouver, they would be Gotham > Hy = Black and Blue > The Keg... but of course this is just personal preference.....
In our first visit to Black and Blue on Alberni we were greeted and told that are table was ready but that we only had an hour and a half before the next sitting. We were seated in the very front (almost cut off from the rest of the venue) and our server was nice but seeing as this was our first time to this establishment, we had hoped to enjoy the entire restaurant and get a feel for the ambiance.
Our food did come promptly (I'm guessing not because of good service but since they were getting us out quickly) and it was delicious... but in the end that was really all this restaurant offered us on our first visit and I'm not sure yet if there will be a second.
Previously as a group we have been to Black and Blue restaurant for dinner and lunch. We have decided to try the special burger and beer on Fridays. Unfortunately we were all disappointed with the burgers, the meat patty was very dry, no flavoring or sauce and too much bun.
Tiny portions... Over priced for not that special service or meals.
Our food took forever and was Luke warm. Our awesome waiter offered to get a manager and get our desert as an apology - but neither materialized.
Give it a miss. Go to the keg and save $300.
We had the Calamari and the Chateaubriand for 2, cooked medium rare, definitely a great choice! The meat was very tender and delicious. The restaurant has very dim lighting and was very quiet. This would be a great place for date night or a special occasion.
Always great food (especially steak!) - however, since it was still the holidays was quite busy & we grabbed whichever server we could get as it seems to be a bit of a wait. One did apologize when serving our drinks and not too long a wait between appetizers and entrees. We had 3 or 4 servers & each always polite & asked if all OK.
