Black & Blue Seafood Chophouse Ratings and Reviews
We went for brunch and were not happy with the service received. We waited for our food for about an hour and when it finally came out both burgers that were ordered at the table were raw in the middle as well as the French toast was ice cold. When the staff was made aware of this they seemed annoyed. When we got our burgers back they were the same burgers from before that had been burnt to charcoal. I guess they want you to just not bother them and eat raw meat. The manager never came over to say anything to us or offer to give us anything for the issues. Also one of my friends has dietary issues so she just ordered a baked potato with nothing on it. It was tiny and they charged her $8 !!!! When one of us at the table ordered dessert we were told it was coming out, 20 min latter it still had not come. Finally after my friend finished her desert the hostess came over to ask us if we needed anything. We said no and were told then is was ok for us to go. Like it was our fault we were there so long.
My wife and I completely agree that our NYE experience at Black & Blue could not have played out better. The menu was varied and reasonable, the live band entertaining, the staff excellent within the chaos, and the patrons enthusiastic, culminating with a complimentary champagne toast. Well done!
the brunch was great on a Sunday. The amounts were more than my stomach could eat. The food was very good. I have to same it was the best breakfast sampler I have ever had by far. The amount also very very reasonable. Great place to meet up and catch up with friends.
I've been to Black and Blue many times since they opened years back, but this was the first visit in awhile for dinner. First, we noticed that the interior and decor could use updating. I was surprised at how run down it felt and looked, especially in the bathroom and bar areas. Also the fish tank seems to be out of service so that was totally black and just looked like a dirty mirror in the dining area. Second, the service... Was less than desirable. There were four of us there for a friend's birthday and it took an inordinate amount of time to get our appetizers and meals. The food was simply so so and definitely nothing to write home about. Two of us had filet mignon. Boring presentation. One of us was a child and had a decent Mac and cheese. And the other adult had a veal special for that evening. Service for dessert and coffee was similarly slow and I had decided to cancel the coffee, but then the server came out and said she was going to give it to me free because of his long it took. No explanation why it was so long. Overall we weren't thrilled with the experience and will not be going back or recommending anymore. This place needs an upgrade and maybe new management? I can't figure out what changed from the other times I've been there. Sad to see another Huntington place going downhill. I foresee it'll be out of business within the year or maybe they'll close for upgrades and improve. One can hope.
They say never to order steak at a seafood restaurant...
They were right.
The Thai fried calamari was excellent. The sauce was delicious. (They should bottle it up to sell)
The seafood linguini excellent entree.
Chilled seafood platter for two was fresh and good value.
We also got the porterhouse for 2. Medium rare.
It came out... Medium rare... but... bland... and not rare all around...
And it needed more seasoning. We got butter and garlic...
The edges were too cooked... the rare part was only the center of the steak...
Sliced cut pieces were too cooked
I think this is uneven heating...
Overall a place we would go back to. They also have a prix fix menu that looks good.
Flourless cake was surprisingly delicious.
Cheesecake crust was too thick. (Good cheesecake though)
So all and all a go for the seafood. Pass on the steak.
We have been here before many times and has great food and service, but this past visit was definitely lacking. The food seemed to be prepared by a different chef: calamari was mushy instead of crispy, chicken Milanese wasn’t pounded thin, the little lobster crust on salmon didn’t seem to have any lobster in it and everything just let us down. Even the coconut cake was slapped down on the plate with zero effort to make it look nice. I don’t get it. Service was ok but slow. Water refills were hard to come by.
Service ok but slow. Party of 6. Table was slanted so silverwear and even bread basket slid off by end of night. Food came to table room temperature. We had gooey Asian short rib appetizer and Montauk Stripped Bass which came in a mess of tasteless risotto
Looked for manager or host as we were leaving to tell them bout table but could find no one on floor or in bar area. All on break at 10:30pm?
Gave this place many chances. Will come back for music late night or maybe happy hour.
As always, the food was great and the service and value were excellent. We were three friends having lunch and the choices were varied, the service was attentive and the older person who had dietary needs was very satisfied. Our server was very willing to check with the kitchen about her dietary needs and that was much appreciated. Thank you.
We had a reservation for 7:15 but weren’t seated til 7:45,we weren’t served till 8:15.
The room was dark with chipped paint. My husbands pork was raw and we had to send it back which took a long time. The other dinners were good but we ate without him.
They were not apologetic about the long waits.
I wouldn’t go back!
Upon arrival it was utter ciaos, we waited 40mins to be seated after our reservation time. Our dishes were not hot but only warm. Waiter was kind but very slow. My steak became ice cold a I waited for a glass of wine to pair with my steak for 20mins....Dessert just ended the night as we will not return. It is a shame but not for us and not worth the money spent. Mgmt looked completely lost. Manager/owner saw us at our tables waiting as he walked back and forth and did not even check in to see how things were going. Just horrible date night.
As usual, we were pleased with our meal. I had the special beet salad and the angel hair with clam sauce, while my husband had the Manhattan Clam Chowder and the filet mignon. I would have appreciated the server bringing grated cheese for my pasta, and she never checked back as to how our appetizers or meals were, which is why I gave a lower rating for the service. My husband enjoyed the soup, although he though it was more of a minestrone than Manhattan clam chowder. Also, he requested "medium well" for his filet, and it was closer to well done. The cucumber martini was excellent, as well as the gelato and cappucino.
first time at this restaurant since moving to centerport. The food was very fresh,we had the raw clams and oysters ,they tasted like the ocean ,briny and fresh. My wife had the salmon and I had the tuna, both were delicious.I would highly recommend this restaurant to my family and friends.
We went during Dine Huntington week and they had a great menu with different levels of prix fix ($20, $30, $40), which eliminated the up-charges usually associated with Restaurant Week. We both decided on steak which put us at $40. Nice table by the faux fireplace. Service was very good.
The good - my app was mussels which were fresh and plump, filet mignon was perfectly cooked and juicy (mashed were room temp, asparagus were fine), dessert was a decent flourless chocolate cake (could have used a raspberry coulis to cut the sweetness).
The bad - his app was crab cake with only one visible chunk of crab and no crab taste, NY Strip has a lot of sinew running thru it so it was unpleasant and disappointing, broccoli was fine, dessert was coconut cake and OK.
This did not encourage us to return to pay full price for dinner ... certainly not what the restaurant has hoped for.
We generally enjoy our dinner but we hadn’t been here in over a year. This time we had to walk through a wall of sugar eye smoke to enter the front door. At least eight people were having a “smoke” right in front of the door. We had to as’them to move aside to enter.
The restaurant as not full but appeared to be catering to large parties and did not feel intimate. We would have enjoyed a diner more.
That being said, the waiter did try to be accommodating. Took a very long time for our appetizer. The main dish looked like an afterthought. Will not return.
My wife and I go here every year for our anniversary. The Spicy Thai Calamari is out of this world and I have yet to find another place that matches it. We always leave there with full stomachs and smiles on our faces. Great staff, great food and of course great CALAMARI!
