Black & Blue Seafood Chophouse Ratings and Reviews
As always it was great! Julian, our server, is always attentive. It was a pleasure seeing him again because he always takes good care of us. Food is always delicious. The ambience is great for a first date or just a night out. Highly recommend you check this place out. Won't be disappointed.
Very disappointed with the food. It was not what we expected. The oysters on the half shell
were frozen when I ate them. The lobster crab cake was mostly bread crumbs and the lobster dinner my husband had was over done. Butter not even melted. It was Valentines Day and it seemed as if they just prepared all the food ahead of time and re-heated it just to get people in and out. They charged $60 per person for a 3 course meal that was not worth the price.
Went to this resturant for a date night with my husband. They have a great specials, date night Tuesday, pre-fixe menu on certain nights. The food was good but I had better steak and salmon in Huntington. A little pricey but expected for a steakhouse. I wouldn't personally go again only because there are many other steakhouses I would like to try in Huntington.
The service was on point. Server was personable and also knew the menu well.
Great food, fantastic service, and amazing dirty martinis. The waiter was attentive and friendly but he wasn’t pushy. He let us take our time with each course but checked in at appropriate times to make sure we didn’t need anything. It’s rare to get such spot on service. Really happy with our experience. Definitely would recommend this restaurant for a date night or dinner out with friends.
We had an 8:15 reservation. We arrived at 8 pm and had a drink at bar. We told hostess we were there and we did not get seated until almost 9:30. They apologized and the owner cane over and said the bill was on them. That has ever ever happened to us. We left a nice tip for waitess and she seemed happy. It was worth the wait! Great customer service.
Not a fan !! Was excited to try a new venue for restaurant week. The place was pretty crowded so I thought it would be a nice new spot to dine. Instead of the 28.95 restaurant week deal , about 80 percent of the menu had an upcharge .. I ordered baked clams as an appetizer and the waitress came back to tell me they had run out so I ordered Caesar salad which was 5 pieces of lettuce wilted on a dish with a few slivers of Parmesan cheese. I returned it and chose the rice balls which were just ok. My husband ordered the shrimp lettuce wrap which was an upcharge of 5 dollars and the steak was an upcharge of ten dollars so his restaurant week deal was 44 dollars. Basically could have went to any Fine dining venue for that. My pasta special was a five dollar upcharge so for 34 dollars I got angel hair pasta with dried up shrimp and some kind of dark funky looking meatballs that were tasteless. When dessert was offered they also ran out of the chocolate cake !! Basically they either ran short on the food item on the menu or it was an upcharge. My opinion is that if you are offering a restaurant week deal then you should put a choice of items offered at the deal price and not trick the customer with a special that is way overpriced! Dinner for 3 was 150 dollars and I the food was less than satisfactory. NEVER AGAIN !! Just a note .. I had dinner the night before for $300 a couple so I don’t mind paying the price for good food. But I do mind being overcharged for poor food!!
We had never been here & decided to try because there was a groupon available. The restaurant did not disappoint! We arrived 30min early to have drinks in the bar. The bar area was huge & the drinks were great! We sat right around our reservation time ordered apps & dinner. Clams casino & mussels. Excellent. Skirt steak & Paella. Portions were very nice size. We brought home leftovers. Had gelato for dessert & will definitely be back! The staff was very friendly and everything ran smoothly.
I have to say I was extremely disappointed when making a 730 pm reservation and still not being seated by 830 pm - being told by hostess 15 more minutes several times. Then after hour and asking again - told that manager gave my table away!!!!! Food was great. Waiter was friendly and energetic. Manager and overall experience was disappointing.
We reserved a table for 6 people at 7:15 on a Friday evening during LI Restaurant Week. Upon timely arrival, we had to wait for almost 40 minutes to be seated. The hostess, although very polite, should have offered us a round of drinks on the house for this long wait. She could have also asked the guests who were taking their time leaving the table to move their conversation over to the bar area as she bought them a round of drinks or desserts. However, that didn’t happen.
Once seated, table was rocking and needed a wedge. That was done.
Drinks were served timely and my Cucumber Martini was outstanding!
Appetizers: lettuce wraps -awesome, and 4 other appetizers were very good.
Main course: my husband’s medium-rare NY strip came out black and blue, and cold. When they took it back to fix it, it came out warm but still rare. Since it was flavorful, he didn’t want to make a fuss, so ate it as was. Everyone else’s food was very good and properly prepared.
For dessert, 4 of us ordered ours with a side of hazelnut or vanilla gelato, but sadly they ran out of both. We substituted it with sesame and chocolate gelato, and both turned out to be tasty.
I would return here again but definitely not during busy dinner times. They need to work on their scheduling a bit better.
The restaurant was short staffed. Took 45mins just to get a drink. The hostess was taking orders. The food was amazing but most of it was cold. Don't know if I would go back. Better places in huntington to go and get better service. It was restaurant week yes, but have been to many huntington restaurants during the restaurant weeks and had amazing food and service.
As soon you you walk in the door you are in a very dark bar , the hostess was very pleasant and sat us right away in the restaurant which was also very dark it’s not the lighting that makes this place so dark it’s the furnishings and the wall colors and the curtains, it definitely needs a renovation. The waitress was very nice and menu options for restaurant week were good, I had the shrimp and scallop risotto , the shrimp and scallops were delicious but the risotto was lacking flavor, my husband had the steak it was fine , also lacking some flavor, overall the food is fine but nothing that I would make a point to go back for , for the price the food should be better.
Don’t sit by the front of the restaurant where you get a horrible cold breeze from the opening door and an unwilling impolite manager to keep the curtain closed- my raw steak and a very busy waiter that never came back to our table of six might have just made Saturday night, our last visit! So disappointed!
They were busy but seated quickly. Problems began when we ordered appetizers, soup and salads but they all arriving at the table simultaneously. I selected a T bone steak asking for Medium rare and charred. The steak was so fatty and tough and not at all done as I had requested but I chalked that up to a poor choice and wanted to just enjoy my date. I ate only a portion of the steak leaving most and when the waitress asked how was everything I pointed out that i was disappointed because the steak was so fatty that I couldn’t enjoy it. The waitress apologized and later returned with my check telling me that they removed two drinks from the bill. I wasn’t looking for anything but a word form the manager would have appreciated.
We dine out frequently but this visit was an unfortunate experience .
We went for brunch and were not happy with the service received. We waited for our food for about an hour and when it finally came out both burgers that were ordered at the table were raw in the middle as well as the French toast was ice cold. When the staff was made aware of this they seemed annoyed. When we got our burgers back they were the same burgers from before that had been burnt to charcoal. I guess they want you to just not bother them and eat raw meat. The manager never came over to say anything to us or offer to give us anything for the issues. Also one of my friends has dietary issues so she just ordered a baked potato with nothing on it. It was tiny and they charged her $8 !!!! When one of us at the table ordered dessert we were told it was coming out, 20 min latter it still had not come. Finally after my friend finished her desert the hostess came over to ask us if we needed anything. We said no and were told then is was ok for us to go. Like it was our fault we were there so long.
My wife and I completely agree that our NYE experience at Black & Blue could not have played out better. The menu was varied and reasonable, the live band entertaining, the staff excellent within the chaos, and the patrons enthusiastic, culminating with a complimentary champagne toast. Well done!
the brunch was great on a Sunday. The amounts were more than my stomach could eat. The food was very good. I have to same it was the best breakfast sampler I have ever had by far. The amount also very very reasonable. Great place to meet up and catch up with friends.
I've been to Black and Blue many times since they opened years back, but this was the first visit in awhile for dinner. First, we noticed that the interior and decor could use updating. I was surprised at how run down it felt and looked, especially in the bathroom and bar areas. Also the fish tank seems to be out of service so that was totally black and just looked like a dirty mirror in the dining area. Second, the service... Was less than desirable. There were four of us there for a friend's birthday and it took an inordinate amount of time to get our appetizers and meals. The food was simply so so and definitely nothing to write home about. Two of us had filet mignon. Boring presentation. One of us was a child and had a decent Mac and cheese. And the other adult had a veal special for that evening. Service for dessert and coffee was similarly slow and I had decided to cancel the coffee, but then the server came out and said she was going to give it to me free because of his long it took. No explanation why it was so long. Overall we weren't thrilled with the experience and will not be going back or recommending anymore. This place needs an upgrade and maybe new management? I can't figure out what changed from the other times I've been there. Sad to see another Huntington place going downhill. I foresee it'll be out of business within the year or maybe they'll close for upgrades and improve. One can hope.
They say never to order steak at a seafood restaurant...
They were right.
The Thai fried calamari was excellent. The sauce was delicious. (They should bottle it up to sell)
The seafood linguini excellent entree.
Chilled seafood platter for two was fresh and good value.
We also got the porterhouse for 2. Medium rare.
It came out... Medium rare... but... bland... and not rare all around...
And it needed more seasoning. We got butter and garlic...
The edges were too cooked... the rare part was only the center of the steak...
Sliced cut pieces were too cooked
I think this is uneven heating...
Overall a place we would go back to. They also have a prix fix menu that looks good.
Flourless cake was surprisingly delicious.
Cheesecake crust was too thick. (Good cheesecake though)
So all and all a go for the seafood. Pass on the steak.
We have been here before many times and has great food and service, but this past visit was definitely lacking. The food seemed to be prepared by a different chef: calamari was mushy instead of crispy, chicken Milanese wasn’t pounded thin, the little lobster crust on salmon didn’t seem to have any lobster in it and everything just let us down. Even the coconut cake was slapped down on the plate with zero effort to make it look nice. I don’t get it. Service was ok but slow. Water refills were hard to come by.
