Fantastic Sunday brunch! So many options at the buffet and the ambiance and service is great.
We had the Bistro half salad. It was plenty for two. The hanger steak was great. The pork chop was to die for. A great wine selection by the glass. I would recommend this for all occasions.
So we were looking for gluten free dining in the quad city area and this came up and looked nice. We sat and the waitress was unfamiliar with gluten free (really???) had to ask and the whole process was really slow. Another table came in ordered received their food and departed before we even got out food! The disappointment was that after waiting over an hour for food it want even that good... Steak was tough and my dish just tasted like sour cream not pleasant. And to top it off this was a $100 meal for three one of which was a child with a child's meal and no alcohol! Waste of time and money.
My husband went to Bix Bistro (Hotel Blackhawk) and had a fabulous time. The hotel and restaurant has been restored and renovated recently and we ended up asking for a tour of the hotel. Our server, Katie, was one of the best servers we've ever had. She talked about the various chefs and items that were new to the menu and knew the ingredients and history of each listing, we asked about. They were out of the wine, we initially requested; but, they offered plenty of other great wines from their list. The food was much better than expected. The atmosphere was quiet; which we prefer. Most guests were dressed up; but, don't let that stop you . . . we saw one gentleman in denim.
My son has attended college in the area for the last four years and I typically don't expect local restaurants to match up to our hometown of Chicago. This time I was pleasantly surprised. The bistro is in the Blackhawk Hotel and it is gorgeous. It could compete with some of Chicago's best! The service was also impeccable. Our waiter was pleasant, knowledgeable and provided us with some of the history of the menu (a pork chop dish named after President Obama). If you're like me and celebrating a special occasion, consider dining here.
Got a lot of recommendations to go here. Unfortunately, they didn't appropriately staff for the expected crowd before a show at the Adler. It took almost 20 minutes to get our drinks delivered. We ordered our meals at the same time- thank goodness (our neighbors finally left when their dinners hadn't arrived in time for them to eat and walk next door.) My meal was incorrect and I had to explain to the person who delivered it why it was wrong (I'm vegetarian- I know I didn't order shrimp.) The waitress didn't make it back around so we could order wine until our meals were almost done. We ordered wine anyway and they were served in glasses that had not even been dried off. Bottom line. It's probably a decent restaurant if there is no show at the Adler, but otherwise don't expect the restaurant to be properly staffed. You'll be paying premiere prices for decent food with Applebee's service and a lousy experience.
Unfortunate for restaurant, as the food and cocktails were good, but the service was not acceptable (slow/uninterested staff), and the background music and front lobby activities were disruptive to diners. We will stay again at the Blackhawk Hotel, but probably not dine at the Bix.
We ate at Bix Bistro before going to an Adler Theater event and the service was horrible. We were so disappointed, because we eat here often and the service has always been impeccable. Our server was frazzled from the moment we sat down and became even more so throughout dinner service. We never had our water refilled, nor did we get the standard bread offering. When we said we hadn't received out bread yet and would like some, our server told us she would get some and didn't come back for thirty minutes. We never did get any bread, while every table around us received their's.
Our service was unfortunate because our food was fantastic.
I was looking for a romantic dinning experience for our 20th anniversary and found it at the Bix Bistro. The service was excellent. Our server , Vicki, was very personable and tentative. She made the experience extremely pleasurable. The food was exquisite. Some of the finest dinning in the QCA! Our server even brought us a surprise for desert and the flavors were with out a doubt amazing. Our server said it very well "it's like a party in your mouth." Indeed!
Fantastic flavor and perfectly prepared food! Hostesses could have been more inviting/communicative when we arrived.
Nice tasting food. Accommodated our allergies issues, good size portions. But could stand for more gluten free options
Made a reservation through Open Table from a link on the restaurant's website. We arrived at the restaurant to find that they had no record of my reservation. They were not busy but refused to serve us breakfast because it was 10:30 even though I had the reservation email confirmation. The hostess did seem interested in apologizing for the error, just made excuses. We ended up leaving and eating else where.
We went to Bix Bistro for the first time for our wedding anniversary. We weren't disappointed! The service was attentive and excellent. The salad was fresh and perfectly dressed. The entree was delicious! Dessert was to die for! The atmosphere was pleasant. I gave it 4 stars only because of the view of the parking lot. We both said we would return for special occasions....a bit above our usual price range!
