About

This restaurant is permanently closed. We are a San Francisco gathering place in the Lower Polk neighborhood serving California cuisine from the kitchen and signature cocktails at the bar. Brick walls and dark wood counters create a comfortable bar and restaurant for guests to enjoy food, drink and friends. An urban oasis in the heart of the city with a contemporary menu able to accommodate large parties with a private room for events or gatherings.

We have an extensive bar menu with hundreds of unique whiskeys, gins, vodkas and tequilas. And we share the love with our Happy Hour prices, half off selected apps and heavily and happily discounted cocktails!

Our venue is great for private parties and events. The venue is a large capacity restaurant with its own bar, and even has a unique private party room with its own bar and bathroom facilities. The lounge area is great for parties and corporate happy hours. Catering is available for large groups and office parties too!

It's a cozy little place. Our bartender might have been the nicest bartender we've ever had in the city. (I wish I remembered his name!) we loved the food too. The only thing keeping it from being full 5 stars was strangely-placed, and pretty loud gangsta rap playing that kinda stressed me out (at 4:45pm on a Friday). It was probably just an algorithm radio station that went haywire, and I should have just said "umm, can you turn that off?"
We'll be back :)

I wish I could review. We got there for our reservation and the dining room was closed. The bartender offered to open the very dark messy dining room for us, but we declined and left. Disappointing as I was hosting 5 people in SF.

Shame it closed. Hubby didn’t though. Service was excellent, food good. The neighborhood was a bit scary at night. Hard to get an Uber to pick us up...hhhhmmmm!

This place is a bar, not a restaurant. In fact, it is two bars. Similar menus but not completely the same. They do have a dinner menu. Good food!

We went with a group of around 12 for my birthday. They had adequate amount of space, and then some. Especially great for a Friday night. We didn't have a tab. Most people just ordered separately from the bar, and the staff had no issue with that. The food and cocktails are always great and the staff is awesome! I'll be back very soon!

Had dinner as a party of 4 and didn't realize this place was essentially under construction. Slow service at about 5pm, and very underwhelming food. Had a BBQ platter that really cannot be called BBQ. No smoke flavor in the brisket nor the pulled pork. Brisket wasn't tender, pulled pork was mushy. Maybe it will be better after they finish working on the building, but I would not go back.

We ordered the large meat combo plate along with the buffalo chicken sliders, and it was way more food than the two of us could finish. I would definitely get just the brisket next time. The sliders and sausage were ok, and we would have done well without the pulled pork.

They called one hour before the reservation saying they couldn't honor it. I had people coming in from out of town for my birthday and we had to scramble last minute to find another restaurant.

Absolutely terrible space management.

The food was terrible - brisket in particular was so dry I could barely chew it. The drinks were inconsistent - if two manhattans taste completely different you have problems. Definitely not going back.

I really enjoy this place for watching sports over Sunday brunch. It's loud, with lots of televisions, the staff is friendly and the food is fun. The bar stocks an impressive array of whiskey and bourbon, with prices that won't break the bank. Fun & friendly!

This was my first night with my husband without my baby, and also his birthday, so I had hoped for something worth talking about; sadly it fell slightly flat.

The food was alright - nothing to write home about, but it hit the spot for the time being. The deviled eggs were probably the best part of it, jalepeno margarita was decent, beer options were good.

I wouldn't tell someone I know to absolutely go here, but it is good for a quick bite especially during happy hour.

Great place to go to watch a game and grab a casual meal. The bartender was knowledgeable about the extensive bourbon and rye list.

When you're a bar that hosts viewing a particular college football game, you should staff accordingly. We arrived at noon (for a 12:30 game). There were a few people already there but it wasn't packed. Ordered drinks shortly after arriving. One of the two arrived, but had to remind the server about the second and then put in our food order. It took 1 1/2 hours for a sandwich and french fries to arrive. Throughout the game service remained dismal. It was faster to order at the bar. I like the bar and the food is decent, but when you know it's going to be packed for college football I'd expect basic level of service. Unfortunately, I can't see coming back here during any major sporting event. I gave them two chances and both resulted in the same poor service.

We had a good time, but the food what just OK. Nice and attentive servers and delicious well priced drinks. It really is a bar that happens to serve BBQ.

I'm sure I just went in on an off night but I wasn't impressed. They were out of most of the items I was interested in and the restaurant was freezing cold. Despite being fairly empty, the food took a while and I when it came it didn't blow my mind. It wasn't bad, just wasn't interesting. I got the smoked chicken and it just tasted like fried chicken. No smoke on it at all. The margarita was awesome and so were the deviled eggs.

The server seated me and gave menus (only one drink menu for 6 people) and I told her the others were trying to find parking and would arrive soon. She didn't come back for at least 10 minutes to ask me if I wanted a drink after one other person arrived. Then she knew we had 6 people and only gave appetizer plates for 4 people. The silverware and napkins are in a mason jar and didn't even have enough for the original table of 4 she merged with a table of 2. We ended up having to grab 3 mason jars just to get enough forks, knives, and napkins. The other two people arrived and she didn't give them appetizer plates so we had to share used plates with them. Then another table of 14 showed up and she must have made us a table of 20 because both tables of food came out at once even though we had been there for a lot longer. The ribs were over seasoned with tons of salt (4 people commented on this at our table) and they were not cooked long enough to be broken down easily with hands. Since the idea of a real knife must not mean anything to them, we had to use butter knives to try to cut our ribs that clearly hadn't been prepped or started cooking early enough to be tender enough to serve. We won't be coming back.

Ate here the other night - thought the food was good! I had the chicken pot pie - the chicken and biscuits on top were a little dry, but still taste good.

We went on a Monday night before a concert. It was very quiet, service was excellent. The food was basic but very good, the drinks were great. I've heard it can noisy once in awhile but on our visit it was pleasant.

My fiance and I tried Bitters, Bock & Rye as a possible wedding reception venue; since they have a separate room in the back. We had been in close contact with Shannon all along the way and were lucky enough to be there on a night when she was working. Start to finish, everything was fantastic. She set us up with food tastings, wine samples, restaurant tour. The food was fantastic! We are definitely going back! I can't wait to try to roasted pig!

It said there was a table for 10 people, so I reserved it. Bitters Bock & Rye called me about an hour before the reservation saying they couldn't honor it and that they told Open Table to take it down (and they didn't).
So we had cancelled another reservation, had 10 people on the way, and then had to scramble to figure out some other place to go.
Still not sure who's fault it was, but it was just a really poor experience overall from both side (Open Table and the Restaurant).

Wonderful ribs and corn on the cob. The brisket was tasty maybe a little dry. Potato salad like mom makes. Setting is casual and rough around the edges, but great cocktails and ale.

Funky place in Polk Gulch, good list of Bourbons & Ryes. We each had a barbecued meat sandwich, the chicken was fine but both the pork and beef were overcooked, the meat was dry and stringy. The sweet potato fries had a funny taste and were limp. Our server was good and quite a pleasant chap. Bottom line, go for the liquor, not the food.

I was excited to try out Bitters, Bock & Rye on account of the fact that their barbecue sauces and variety of smoked meats sounded very good.
Unfortunately, service was extremely slow - about 30-40 minutes between each time we saw our server. The smoked pork unfortunately came out of the kitchen between lukewarm and cool, as did the Mac & Cheese which was even served in a small cast iron dish which had to have been sitting for quite a while to have cooled off as much as it did.
The pork also turned out to be rather dried out which was unfortunate. I think it would have been really good if it had been about 30 degrees warmer and a bit moister.

A group and I went to Bitters, Bock and Rye for a birthday dinner. The restaurant occupies a huge building, which was everyone's first exclamation as they walked in. Server was very nice, quick, and attentive. For starters we shared the okra, sweet potato fries, and boiled peanuts--all were delicious. For main dishes we sampled the various cuts of BBQ. Ribs were outstanding and the brisket and sausage looked equally well. I also can't forget the drinks. The sazerac was exactly like one would expect. I recommend Bitters, Bock, and Rye for groups looking to be well-fed.

Good spot, good service, and easy to get a reservation. Bit of a shortage of veggie options but food was reasonably tasty. Some of the barbeque was a little dry but the sauces available was delicious. Mac and Cheese was great. Bar had a good vibe but it was a little quiet (mind you, it was a Wednesday night).

The food here is pretty good but during the week it is just a bar with bar food. Opentable let us make a reservation for the dining room on a Thursday night but the dining room is not open M-Th and they don't have a reservation system in the restaurant those days. We ate in the bar and it was fine - not really what we were hoping for but it was fine. The server was great.
