About Bistrot Zinc
Experience the romance of France in Chicago. The taste and feel of Paris is right here in the Gold Coast, one of Chicago’s oldest and most beautiful neighborhoods. The name Bistrot Zinc is derived from typical French bistrots where the “zinc” bar is a popular meeting place for good food, conversation and camaraderie. Moderately-priced classic & contemporary French food is served amid the ambiance of tile floors, tin ceilings, and the beautifully handcrafted zinc bar. The feeling of French authenticity prevails throughout as you step into this lively Parisian atmosphere. The lunch, brunch and dinner menus include many French favorites in addition to the monthly specials. Also offered is an extensive selection of French wines by the bottle and glass, plus French aperitifs and liqueurs.

Bistrot Zinc Ratings and Reviews
Love the ambiance of this causal
French restaurant. The service could have been better, but perhaps they want to be truly authentic and have their servers act somewhat indifferent to their clients, just like in Paris!
I had a mushroom & chicken crepe which was too ok but heavy on the sauce and only room temperature - not impressed.
We have been here for brunch on Sunday a few times and have always had a great experience. It's a little more than I would normally spend for brunch fare, but it is worth it. We must feel comfortable there, because we've been the last table to leave of the lunch/brunch crowd each time.
Bistrot Zinc is the real deal, authentic in every way. Actually, better than authentic because the service is really good, unlike much of Paris. Don't miss the mussells (best in town, always), steak Frites, Skate, Lyonaisse salad. Nice wine list, moderatly priced.
We returned to Zinc for their special October menu because the rabbit main course was so good the first time. Zinc did not disappoint! It never does. The consistency of Zinc with regard to both food and service is notable and a reason we go back regularly. We strongly recommend it!
We've eaten dinner many times at Bistrot Zinc. This was our first time for lunch. The lunch menu is limited and didn't include some of our favorites. My husband and one of our guests ordered the stars of the meal, both specials: the beef brisket and the quiche of the day. We all appreciated that the noise level was moderate; it can get noisy at dinner. That said I would go back for dinner anytime. I love the skate wing. The service was disappointing this time. It was intrusive at the start of our meal and later we had flag down staff who forgot to deliver basics such as bread. This wasn't our typical experience. I won't go back for lunch.
Have been several times and loved it. This time the food was not memorable. I was informed the salmon was best served medium rare, which is fine with me. When it arrived, I could smell how over cooked it was (a slight burning smell). Also felt like server was rushing us out, over pouring wine glasses to get through the bottle quickly. The last place you expect to be rushed is a French bistro. We will eventually go back because other experiences have been good, but it won’t be at the top of the list any time soon.
Bistrot Zinc never disappoints, a reason we have dined there for years. Now that we live in Chicago, we try to go often enough to try the monthly seasonal menus. This time we both had rabbit, which was absolutely outstanding. The portions were large enough to take home for next day's lunch, too. The casual atmosphere, good service, and reasonable noise level always make Zinc a relaxing and enjoyable experience.
What a delightful spot -- with food that is 'way above expected in freshness and flavor and continental panache.
However, the noise level was horrendous. I wear hearing aids & my companion does not need them -- but we both could barely hear each other's voice.
Mediocre at best. Lousy quality. Nothing is very fresh. Our fig and parmesan salad arrived with one fig and two crumbs of parmesan with wilted lettuce...not even average. Mussels were tasteless-mostly cream-not much wine or herbs. The burger was just average, as was the french fries. Wine selection is also mediocre. Nothing very French here-just a tourist spot.
We live in the neighborhood and love Bistrot Zinc. Great great seafood, meat and awesome cheeseburger, as well. The staff are a highlight of this restaurant, though. Familiar faces with tenure at the restaurant. We enjoy seeing them as much as we enjoy dining there. A neighborhood gem.
We really enjoyed dinner at BZ. Food and service were really nice. We had steaks and they were cooked just like we asked. Roasted figs salad was big enough to share. Portions were quite generous. Noise level was manageable- we could hear each other without having to scream. And the place was full which is always a good sign. We will definitely be back when we are back to Chicago
