I travel to Chicago a couple of times a year. I make a point to hit this place every trip I make because the food is so dependable delicious. I love the atmosphere and the service too. Every neighborhood should a a Bistro Zinc. The world would be a better place.
Have always been a fan of Bistro Zinc and tend to visit nearly every time we're visiting Chicago - the food and service were great this time, just like all the others!
This is a great restaurant. The food was delicious, the decor authentic and the vibe was indeed vibrant. A fun place to discover and look forward to returning to for another great meal.
I always enjoy bringing new friends to the bistro; an easy wow for me, as everyone loves it. Amazing brunch choices that aren't over the top, accompanied by upbeat warm service and a great atmosphere. What more could you want for Sunday brunch?
The food was good but the salad with chicken had like two pieces of it and when asked for more chicken was charged $5.00.
Had to pay for bread as well. Too many extra charges. Wine was great.
All 3 in our party have an enjoyable experience and excellent food.
I have been going to Bistro Zinc for many years, primarily because it provided authentic French bistro food at a reasonable price. On this visit, I found Bistro Zinc to largely fulfil this role, with the marked exception on the cassoulet. The cassoulet was essentially some tasteless white beans with a leg of duck confit with some bread crumbs thrown on top, in contrast to what a real cassoulet should be- extremely disappointing to anybody who knows what a real cassoulet should taste like, and at least, a waste of money for someone who doesn't. The service, the salads, the wine, and the dessert were all otherwise great.
Always wonderful to come back to one of our Chicago favorites!
Bistrot Zinc never disappoints. The food is always superb -we particularly like the specials every month, which number about 10. Very good waiters who really make it easy to have a great night. Excellent music.
Great place to have a business lunch, quiet and great food!
The ambience lends itself to intimate, comfortable conversation and dining. The menu offers an enticing and varied selection of dishes, and everything we ordered was perfectly prepared. Our waiter was attentive without being intrusive. And Bistro Zinc has the ability to transport one out of the hubbub of city life into what feel very much like an inviting neighborhood gem.
We come here time and again because it is a good local French option.
We've been there several times and it's aklways a treat. Great ambiance, pluse food is grear and service is rhe best.
Qe're in the area and they will find us there aften.
Always a favorite for escaping the "scene" . We always feel like we're in Paris for dinner.
I return again and again to Bistrot Zinc because I consider it an "adult" restaurant. For those of you that have been to the latest place and couldn't hear yourself talk, you can talk here. It's civilized; the wait staff are flexible about timing of courses. And no one tries to grab your plate if you rest between bites or while others are still eating.
The food is very good; updated French/American that changes monthly plus the classics - onion soup, steak frites... No foam here! You can eat here often and not get bored. Overall one of my favorites in Chicago.
Happy to rely on Bistro Zinc as one of our go-to neighborhood spots. Service is always spot on and the food wonderful. Can never go wrong with their quiche or french onion soup.
Fantastic as always! You can't go wrong here. They keep the food and service top-notch. Grand Mere chicken is the best in the city. Don't waste time at Bistro Campaigne where they don't take rezzies.
The evening was wonderful. The restaurant beat out our expectations. The food was delicious and our server was knowledgeable and very charming. We wondered why we had not been there before and will most certainly be back.
Soup of the day this evening was potato. It was simple and enjoyable. House salad of bib lettuce was fresh yet the dressing was a bit too mild. Shared the classic steak and pomme frit. Enough to share if you don’t have a big appetite. Wanted space for the chocolate cake. We shared the dessert and it was full of flavor if a little dry. The wine for the evening was very nice at $43. It was a regional red blend, listed just below the same priced Pinot. Service was not rushed and we enjoyed the restaurant and our knowledgeable server Nathan.
Great atmosphere, excellent french bistro food.
Valentines - the food was magnificent. Service was a little disjointed.
Food mostly good. Few dishes were not but french classics were really good.
I love that single people, especially women, can have a meal by themselves at the bar or at a table, very comfortably. And when spring arrives and the front windows are open, it's like a Paris café.
Cauliflower was very different but I liked it. Onion soup was reliably great. Short ribs were a bit overdone on the outside but nice on the inside. Profiteroles tasty as always. Attentive waitor.
Perfect atmosphere for quiet, unhurried conversation over delicious, unpretentious bistro food with an excellent glass of wine or beer. Servers are attentive but do not hover, and they will entertain special requests to suit dietary needs.
Trout always good. Salmon always good. Shortribs always good. Ratatouille crepes always goods. New grilled cheese with red beets was yummy!
Fabulous meal! Between the 3 of us, we had steak frites, grilled salmon, and Mediterranean Tagine. The almond butter cake was delicious and presented beautifully with fresh fruit and whipped cream on the side. Our waiter, Dave, was very attentive and knowledgeable about every item on the menu. We will definitely be back. Highly, highly recommend!!
We tried this bistro for restaurant week and really loved it. I was excited to see steak frites on the restaurant week menu and had to have it! It was amazing. My friend had pork cheeks that I didn’t think I’d like, but they tasted wonderful. The almond cake and chocolate mousse were fantastic. We had a good server who let us take our time and explained the menu well. We were also happy with pricing on the wine list.
Had great hopes, but perhaps visiting during restaurant week was a huge mistake. Steak was before average, plus was seated 30 minutes past reservation time.
Bistrot Zinc has been the "go-to" place for French comfort food since 1996. The decor and ambiance are pure French bistrot style, with waiters dressed in white shirts and ties, signs written in French and music made for a cabaret. Our party of four dined here during Chicago restaurant week. For $33 per person, we each selected a starter, main course and dessert, including a tender steak/frites and fine vegetable terrine dinner.s Our waiter recommended a nice Cote du Rhone to accompany the dinners. We will go back yet again.
My first course, Swiss Chard tart, was burnt. No one seemed to notice. I ate the fresh greens that accompanied it, and when the waiter showed up told him it was burnt on top. He did nothing about it.
I had the Moroccan tagine for my entree. The flavors were good, but it wasn't clear to me in ordering it that there was no protein/traditional lamb in it.
We love French bistrot food and were deeply disappointed in the wait staff and the clarity about the dishes. You would think that extra effort would go into restaurant week. We won't be back.
What can I say except I’ve been eating here for so many years and it never wavers in its great bistro food and very warm service. I love this place.
Aloof welcome, warmed up and attentive as evening progressed.
We are never disappointed at this charming, neighborhood gem!!! Delicious brunch, lunch & dinner - down to the bread & butter. Hard to resist the mussels !!!
I love Bistro Zinc. Its a neighborhood gem with a comfortable ambiance. The food is what I would call Country French. The salads are excellent and the wine list is good. Good choices are available for vegetarians. Whether it is a good place for conversation depends on what time you eat, where you sit and how crowded they are. I did not think the food was quite up to par this time. But I have eaten there so many times and I'd say they are consistently very, very good. Service is always excellent. People watching out the front window is always entertaining.
Another nice evening!
Great food & wonderful service! Perfect for a lunch with friends, a quiet working lunch on your own, or a business meeting. Truly a neighborhood gem!!
A great experience as always. Have loved this and the original location for two decades. Never disappoints.
This is one of the most beautiful restaurant rooms in Chicago. Authentic French food, good wine list, and excellent service
