Service was extremely slow. Tables were on top of each other which made it loud.

Been going there since I moved to Roswell six years ago. Consistently fine food and service. I prefer it to Canton Street - adequate (and free) parking, not as crowded or loud as places like Little Alley or Table and Main. The most attentive service I have encountered in the Atlanta area.

I know it was Valentines day, but they should have been prepared better. The scallops were over cooked, food temp was not warm & desert was not thawed. I used to love this place, not sure what has happened, but they have lost their luster.

So we have been regulars for over 10 years. Today was Valentine’s Day and the 4 of us had dinner. First of all, one member of our party arrived 15 minutes before the rest of us, and was refused to be seated by the staff, even after the fact that I called to say we were in traffic and would be a few minutes late. Then upon arrival I was given attitude by the greeter. When asked why my son was not seated she replied “ we don’t seat until the full party arrives”. Although that’s normal procedure I called to say we were running behind and specifically stated to have my son seated.

Putting that behind us, we ordered ribeye, trout amandine and my daughter who was a vegetarian asked the chef to be creative and make something for her, as everything on the menu is meat. The food comes and my daughters creative dish was mashed potatoes and carrots, my god totally disgusting! Now my wife’s dish arrives, trout with no almonds and no capers as described but with a pound of salt!! Back it goes. Then my ribeye arrives which is total garbage, pounded like veal and 1/4 inch thick! Really a ribeye that looks like a Waffle House steak? Oh by the way my son ordered Venison, which was actually brisket. I pay for venison, but am deceived with cheap beef.

I call the manager over and he has attitude and refuses to acknowledge that the food was poorly prepared, snubs me and takes the two dishes off the tab. Ruins our Valentine’s Day meal, upsets my party and says NOTHING.

So I am done with this place, quality is disgusting and the attitude was unacceptable. I still walked away with $150 tab and needed to eat somewhere else!

If I could I would sue VG’s for breach of food quality !

I had a new server who had no personality. Please hire people that like people and are pleasant to order from. Thank you.

We had an outstanding meal! Calamari, mussels, (similar to those we ate in Normandy, France), delicious scallops with shrimp risotto and a fantastic chocolate dessert. Each entree was the tastiest we have ever eaten. Even though it was Valentines Day and very busy, Jessica, our server, was attentive and helpful with her suggestions. We will definitely return to this delightful restaurant.

Great service. Food was decent, but did not love any of the dishes, not good enough to pay high dollar for it again. Had octopus (extremely chewy, not very good sauce), gem salad (dressing wasn't that good, however the fried onions were delicious), French onion soup (decent, have had better), scallops entree (one scallop didn't even look like a scallop, some were very chewy, some seemed under cooked), and braised short ribs entree (served in a horrible dish for eating, ribs needed more sauce, Mac and cheese needed more cheese). The best part was the coffee and espresso with tiramisu for dessert.

Had a great time. The food was excellent and the service outstanding.
Try the pate de champagne . The bread(baquette) is exactly how it should be(taste, smell and appearance).
Will certainly go back there when in town.

A huge hit as always - had been many times for lunch - superb for dinner as well. Introduced foodie hubby and teenage son - they cannot wait to go back. Always so many great items on the menu. Simply fabulous.

We have gone here for many anniversaries - and went before when it was still Van Goghs. The service is always top notch. Menu is creative and we've never had a bad meal here . Add in a great wine list, and it's just not possible to have a bad time here!

Apparently the restaurant has new owners. The food was as expected but not the service. I waited at the reception stand long enough to read the menu before anyone came to greet me. The dining room was almost empty but we still waited about 20minutes for our salads. The waitress didn’t seen interested in taking care of us. Both my friend and I were never offered a refill on our drinks.
Not the service were are used to at VG

We have been here many times in the past and have always enjoyed it but our last experience was very disappointing. It took at least 30 minutes just to get our cocktails and then another 30 minutes before we were served our appetizers which was just soup and probably already cooked. We had the short ribs off the restaurant week menu. They are always superb and did not disappoint but the polenta that came with it was hard and cold with no flavor. We also ordered the bouillabaisse which had a few shrimp with some clams & mussels. It was so small it looked like an appetizer. Our waiter would disappear for extended periods of time. We finally had to ask for some bread to tide us over because the food was taking so long. Then the waiter charged us for the dessert that came with the tasting menu which he had to remove from the bill. We will try again as we do like Bistro VG just hoping it will be better next time!

Food was outstanding. Service was comical. Granted the place was more crowded than I've ever seen, but service was SLOW. Took forever to get our drinks. Asked for bread. They must have run out because after we asked a second time, instead of just telling us they ran out, they brought two pieces of burnt toast - was kind of hilarious and made for a great story later! Waited for check for quite some time as well. Then when we were about to leave server told us he had given us the wrong check. So, we had to tear up the check and start the process over! We were with good friends so we had a good time. But, in other circumstances (business dinner perhaps) could have been a different story!

We ate regularly at Van Gogh's back in the day, but had not been there since it was redone as VG Bistro. We thought that restaurant week would be a great time to revisit it. What a disappointment. Portions were small and food was not exceptional. My husband had pork and the grilled pork that we had had at home earlier that wek had more flavor than his meal. We felt like second class citizens, ordering off the special menu , although we spent close to $100 with wine and tip. The kitchen seemed very slow with our meal taking 1 1/2 hours. I hope that it was just a bad night for them.

We had dinner with good friends, 3 couples total. The food was excellent but the service was the worst we've had anywhere in a long time. Our server was friendly but it took forever to get our initial glasses of wine. Our orders were taken awhile later. The food was delicious. We were then asked about a second glass of wine which we ordered but, again, was a long time (more than 20 min ) before they were delivered. He then just dropped off the dessert cards without any explanation. It took so long for him to come back that we changed our minds about ordering the dessert we were looking forward to. He then brought out the checks (we asked for separate checks by couple with straight forward orders ) and it took 3 times including a manager to get it straight. We were there for 3 1/2 hours (we had reservations. ) Although the company was great and the food was fantastic, the slowness and inattentive service left such a negative impression that we won't likely return.

A perfect anniversary dinner

We go to BistroVG 4-5 times a year but almost always for our anniversary. It’s in our neighborhood, we like its coziness and menu and it has become our tradition.
We enjoyed delicious lamb and duck and beautifully choreographed service from our charming waiter, Cory, who made great suggestions. Thanks again BistroVG!

Went to VG for a late New Year's Eve Dinner - Kitchen was supposed to close at 11, so we had a 10:30 Reservation and showed up about 10:10. They were not having a special New Year's Menu or party as such, so ordered some of their Truffle fries and roasted oysters for appetizers. Got in our entree orders about 10:45. I had scallops and my wife the salmon. By 11:30 or so, most people were finished eating, and there was a pretty good crowd in the bar area. The (New) owners were mingling with crowd and some of their friends and family. They brought out noisemakers and hats and everyone watched countdown on TV. It was like being a a party at someone's house - really nice surprise.

This was a disappointing visit to a restaurant that we typically love. We had visitors from out of town, which we have taken there before, and our expectations were set.

But this time, they were not ready for us, after waiting for a while (which we were not really bother by, we understand this being a high season), they ended up seating us at what seemed to be some sort of private 'table' at the back. A long booth around a semi-circular table. No table cloths, isolated, almost claustrophobic.

Frankly, had it not been by the good service we received and the rescue at the end replacing what did not promise to be the best dessert ever, we would've walked out of there incredibly upset, never to go back.

Still, not sure I'll be able to invite our friends there again...

Don't seat people in that little closed environment... If that is all you have available, let people chose and set the expectation really low! Ambience and comfort are everything for a nice experience.
