Food was creative and excellently prepared. Wait staff could not have been more accommodating and professional. It was a delightful evening and we look forward to returning soon.
I had reserved and requested a specific table four days ago. I confirmed it the night before. I arrived 20 minutes early for a reunion of friends, only to find that the table was already taken. They had no “excuse” for it although they tried to dance around the issue, and rearranged tables to accommodate me. As the restaurant filled they set up a table so tight next to ours It was outrageously intrusive and rude. Our waitress was lackluster, the food was good. Im sad to see what has happened to one of my favorite places in Roswell, my second bad experience due to poor “Management” at the front check in. The last experience was a “15 minute” wait that turned into an hour.
I have always loved this restaurant. My go to item on the menu is the short ribs and they HAD the best margarita in town. I was so disappointed this time. The short ribs were bland tasting the spicy macaroni and cheese that is served with it was dry and they changed the recipe for their margarita. After sending the drink back three times it still wasn't very good. The waiter suggested their small plate which was a crabcake. It was very good but I was not advised that market price was $24 for one crabcake. Overall not a good experience for me this time. Unfortunately this was probably my last time there.
Love Bistro VG! Consistently delicious food amazing service and ambience.
Been a while since I'd been to Bistro VG. The service and the food was delicious, as always. The restaurant was very quiet, perhaps because it was a week night instead of a weekend. Very nice experience.
Food was fantastic. I ordered the pate and salmon. My husband ordered the chicken livers and steak. Everything that came out tasted wonderful.
Server was a bit odd. There were many moments that were awkward and we just thought he was a strange guy until he gave us silverware for our dinner.... but we had already eaten! He said our meals should be up soon. He interacted with us while we were eating, so we were completely confused at this. Oh well. We'll be back anyway. We'll just hope for a different server.
I am so sad, I would have always declared myself to be a raving fan of Bistro VG but this past Saturday night was horrific. In the last 11 years since moving to Roswell we’ve tried other places and always flocked back to VG. My husband and I were having a date night so we were determined not to have this experience mar the evening. So we laughed a lot of this off, but management must know how bad this was. From the time we entered things were off. The hostess was doing clerical work while we stood there with a reservation as she finished stapling things, only to have her lead us to a table with a manner that suggested perhaps she was lost. From there things got more bizarre. Management should call me for the scoop if interested.
Lovely restaurant; very pleased upon being seated but as the evening progressed and became more crowded; the noise level became unbearable.
Food presentation very nice but portions small and looked better than tasted.
Very good service.
This was an anniversary celebration and we were treated like royalty. The food and service good not have been better.
This restaurant is our favorite and the new owners made it better adding items to the menu and it has the best waiter in Michael G
The service was beyond wonderful, but our food was not. Two different managers made several trips to our table and our waiter was beyond accommodating. This is one of my favorite places. When you get inside of the restaurant, you feel like you are in Europe. The ambiance is outstanding and until Saturday nights experience, I would have said the same about the cuisine from former experiences. The restaurant is under new ownership, perhaps with a bit of time, it will improve. We will try again soon!
Service was great. We ordered lamb and received two very small slices. We are not big eaters and were still hungry. Not a good value for the money. We had reservations and were seated near two very large groups, would have appreciated a table in quieter area.
My salad was drowning in salad dressing. I have Celiac disease and told the waitress I needed gluten free. My friend got the same salad. Her goat cheese was breaded. Couldn’t they have put some goat cheese on my salad too? Not breaded, of course, but just a sprinkle. The salad had two scallops and a couple of shrimp. No bread. The price was $18. I was disappointed.
My daughter and I have loved this place for years. It’s the perfect place to dine and we are never disappointed! The salmon is my favorite with the Mountain Trout Setups. YUM!
Service was extremely slow. Tables were on top of each other which made it loud.
I like VG Bistro because it's a change from the typical dark décor, being more white and French/Belgian setting. The chef comes up with good specials. It seems to get booked up at times, so not a place to assume one can just drop in. I've been there at least 3 times. The first time with a group of 50 or more in a separate room, the second time on a nice quite anniversary celebration, and the last time another special dinner. As I recall, both times I went with just my date we were seated at the same table for 2. Both times a large party was seated nearby. Both times our quiet dinner mood was disrupted by party atmosphere adjacent to us. Fortunately we had nearly finished our dinner so didn't have to endure it for long. That's just people and not limited to VG by any means. I'm just saying that if your expectation is to spurge $100-150 for a quiet romantic dinner, I wouldn't depend on that here. It's got a nice, airy, open feel with great food and service, but sometimes too lively atmosphere a fine dining experience.
Been going there since I moved to Roswell six years ago. Consistently fine food and service. I prefer it to Canton Street - adequate (and free) parking, not as crowded or loud as places like Little Alley or Table and Main. The most attentive service I have encountered in the Atlanta area.
VG Bistro never disappoints. My husband and I had our first date at VG’s 12 years ago and continue to return for special occasions.
The staff is incredibly kind, friendly, professional and accommodating. We requested comfortable quiet seating in advance due to a current health challenge. We were provided a booth with cozy back pillows which made sitting far easier. Our salads, entrees and food modifications (non dairy & gluten free) were perfect. The service was outstanding and the flourless chocolate tarte was exceptional.
We appreciate VG’s staff and outstanding food. We will return for future celebrations and date nights.
I was looking for the best restaurant in Alpharetta-Roswell, because I wanted to celebrate my 9th wedding anniversary. This was the great top of choice ever!.
VG is super special not only for the delicious food and exquisite environment, but, the staff is incredible kind, knowledgeable and made us feel VIP, we had an amazing time!
Thanks again to everybody for pampered us and for made our anniversary memorable..we will come back soon!!.
Monica and Phil
Been coming for 20+ years. Food is great, as is service. Were hoping for some substantial menu changes w/new ownership, but hasn't happened. Noticed that you can't get a glass of Chardonnay for less than $12. Unacceptable. They used to have a house white which was fine. No longer. Drink liquor. Wine is no value.
Great service and ambience. Food was excellently prepared.
New ownership is doing a fantastic job of executing the menu and service.
I know it was Valentines day, but they should have been prepared better. The scallops were over cooked, food temp was not warm & desert was not thawed. I used to love this place, not sure what has happened, but they have lost their luster.
New owners have done a nice job keeping things great. Kudos!
So we have been regulars for over 10 years. Today was Valentine’s Day and the 4 of us had dinner. First of all, one member of our party arrived 15 minutes before the rest of us, and was refused to be seated by the staff, even after the fact that I called to say we were in traffic and would be a few minutes late. Then upon arrival I was given attitude by the greeter. When asked why my son was not seated she replied “ we don’t seat until the full party arrives”. Although that’s normal procedure I called to say we were running behind and specifically stated to have my son seated.
Putting that behind us, we ordered ribeye, trout amandine and my daughter who was a vegetarian asked the chef to be creative and make something for her, as everything on the menu is meat. The food comes and my daughters creative dish was mashed potatoes and carrots, my god totally disgusting! Now my wife’s dish arrives, trout with no almonds and no capers as described but with a pound of salt!! Back it goes. Then my ribeye arrives which is total garbage, pounded like veal and 1/4 inch thick! Really a ribeye that looks like a Waffle House steak? Oh by the way my son ordered Venison, which was actually brisket. I pay for venison, but am deceived with cheap beef.
I call the manager over and he has attitude and refuses to acknowledge that the food was poorly prepared, snubs me and takes the two dishes off the tab. Ruins our Valentine’s Day meal, upsets my party and says NOTHING.
So I am done with this place, quality is disgusting and the attitude was unacceptable. I still walked away with $150 tab and needed to eat somewhere else!
If I could I would sue VG’s for breach of food quality !
I had a new server who had no personality. Please hire people that like people and are pleasant to order from. Thank you.
We had an outstanding meal! Calamari, mussels, (similar to those we ate in Normandy, France), delicious scallops with shrimp risotto and a fantastic chocolate dessert. Each entree was the tastiest we have ever eaten. Even though it was Valentines Day and very busy, Jessica, our server, was attentive and helpful with her suggestions. We will definitely return to this delightful restaurant.
Great food and service as usual!
Love how beautiful this place is and the food is very good!
Great service. Food was decent, but did not love any of the dishes, not good enough to pay high dollar for it again. Had octopus (extremely chewy, not very good sauce), gem salad (dressing wasn't that good, however the fried onions were delicious), French onion soup (decent, have had better), scallops entree (one scallop didn't even look like a scallop, some were very chewy, some seemed under cooked), and braised short ribs entree (served in a horrible dish for eating, ribs needed more sauce, Mac and cheese needed more cheese). The best part was the coffee and espresso with tiramisu for dessert.
Had a great time. The food was excellent and the service outstanding.
Try the pate de champagne . The bread(baquette) is exactly how it should be(taste, smell and appearance).
Will certainly go back there when in town.
A huge hit as always - had been many times for lunch - superb for dinner as well. Introduced foodie hubby and teenage son - they cannot wait to go back. Always so many great items on the menu. Simply fabulous.
Excellent service and the food was very good! Their menu prices were low in comparison to the quality of the food!
The best restaurant in town!!! By far!!!
our experience was great. The server was very knowledgeable with the menu and the history of the restaurant. The managers on the floor were exceptional. I have recommended a lot of my friends and will be coming back soon.
We have gone here for many anniversaries - and went before when it was still Van Goghs. The service is always top notch. Menu is creative and we've never had a bad meal here . Add in a great wine list, and it's just not possible to have a bad time here!
Apparently the restaurant has new owners. The food was as expected but not the service. I waited at the reception stand long enough to read the menu before anyone came to greet me. The dining room was almost empty but we still waited about 20minutes for our salads. The waitress didn’t seen interested in taking care of us. Both my friend and I were never offered a refill on our drinks.
Not the service were are used to at VG
Michael our server was excellent. The trout and rack of lamb were also excellent. The tiramisu was good but could have been better. The Bistro VG coffee was most enjoyable.
We have been here many times in the past and have always enjoyed it but our last experience was very disappointing. It took at least 30 minutes just to get our cocktails and then another 30 minutes before we were served our appetizers which was just soup and probably already cooked. We had the short ribs off the restaurant week menu. They are always superb and did not disappoint but the polenta that came with it was hard and cold with no flavor. We also ordered the bouillabaisse which had a few shrimp with some clams & mussels. It was so small it looked like an appetizer. Our waiter would disappear for extended periods of time. We finally had to ask for some bread to tide us over because the food was taking so long. Then the waiter charged us for the dessert that came with the tasting menu which he had to remove from the bill. We will try again as we do like Bistro VG just hoping it will be better next time!
Love this place!! The trout almondine is delicious! My husband has ordered the cauliflower gruyere, which is very good, but make sure you have a few people to share it with.
Service is always great at Bistro VG!
