Bistro VG Ratings and Reviews
Visited occasionally before the recent ownership change. Nicholas is a gracious host and a seasoned operator. Truly enjoyed our dinner selections, esp. those he recommended; kale salad and gnocchi. It remains a beautiful restaurant and will put it in our regular rotation of dining spots.
I selected this restaurant for my wife's birthday. I made reservations and I'm not sure why because they seemed to have had no idea we were coming nor did they have a proper table prepared for us. They were looking for a "table somewhere". The overall service was SO slow, we literally could have gone to another restaurant, eaten, and come back. I often hear from restaurants, we were busy, and that is why service was slow. This suggests that maybe you didn't know you were going to be open??? Everything was "off" just a bit. Neither steak nor lamb chops were cooked properly. "Medium" temp was requested, but we got "well". I was too hungry and too tired to wait for it to be corrected. So, was this experience isolated? No, it was the same thing the last time I came. For the record, we won't be back. I've had French food and service on three continents, and this wasn't it.
before this visit, BistroVG was likely our favorite restaurant. We were excited to bring our family in for thanksgiving for an evening out. Service was abysmal, my parents steak (I tasted it) was over cooked and unnaturally flavored. Won't be back for a while, maybe ever.
Just when you think the best couldn't get any better. We've been fans of VG for years. Under new ownership, it has gone from strength to strength. It's easy for new owners to come in and change or kill the character of a place. Not so here. We're watching as they carefully and lovingly make great adjustments. Keeping what works and elevating so many other little things. How can an arugula salad get better? We don't know, but it did, the lamb lollipops were amazing, the duck confit stunning. Even staples like the steak frites are a step above. As you can tell, we remaining loving fans of VG and with the new team every success.
Drinks were very small. I️ don’t understand why they do this, especially with the incredible margins in alcohol.
We spent $290 for 4 people and felt we deserved proper drinks for the price we paid.
The food was very good. The service was good as well.
The overall experience could have been good.
Unfortunately the food was not good. The rotisserie chicken sandwich was a small “ hunk” are rubbery flavorless chicken on a large think chunk of soggy bread which was loaded with pesto and aioli. It was supposed to be eggplant and chicken but there was just a sliver of tasteless eggplant. It was impossible to eat, even with a fork and knife. The truffle fries were fried to death and tasted like the fryolater grease that was left over from a week of deep frying. The salmon BLT was equally as dismal. Too bad because it is beautiful and the service was impeccable. I will not be back
wonderful menu selection, beautiful setting (that didn't feel crowded), and outstanding service made our anniversary meal very special
the appetizers and salads were varied and delicious - parsnip and pear soup and butter lettuce salad were both a big hit
the main courses were prepared perfectly, and very generous servings at more than fair pricing - filet and rack of lamb were both delicious as were the accompaniments - lentils, mashed potatoes and carameized cauliflower
we ended with the beignets - not to be missed - sugar and cinnamon coated with orange and chocolate dipping options - outstanding
will definitely return - thanks to all for making it such a memorable night
We have eaten here numerous times over the years. We were loyal customers even back when it was Van Goghs. This was the worst service we have ever had... at this restaurant or anywhere else! The food was mediocre at best. Wow! It was my daughters 21st birthday and to say we were disappointed is truly an understatement!!!
Always heard good things but never went, so when we heard it was under new owners that were experts in the industry, we decided to celerbrate my birthday there Saturday night. Great evening! The food, service, ambiance and layout of the restaurant was really really nice. It was busy but not loud and saw other celebrators there too so it’s certainly a popular choice. New owners were very hospitable and socializing with the patrons, making it an engaging and personal experience we enjoyed. Look forward to new menu additions we heard about as well. Highly recommend Bistro VG now that we’ve been.
We go to Bistro VG regularly, roughly every other week. The food is good, the servers are very good, the ambience could be lovely. But the noise level is horrible. We joke about checking the decibel level to see how painful it is. Tonight, the behavior at one table was raucous, exceedingly loud and inappropriate, and largely ruined our evening.
We have loved this restaurant for years. Apparently there is new ownership. The service was great as always, but they were out of the pork chop and the cauliflower at 8:00 and the restaurant wasn’t even crowded. Not a great first impression for the new owners.
We were immediately seated at a table in front of the bathroom with about 10 open tables around us. They moved us after I requested it. When I got my entree, I took my first bite of the clams and linguine and a horrible black liquid came out. I wont go any further because it was too horrible. Needless to say everyone at the table lost their appetite. The good news, they did not charge me for my dinner! After being a patron for 10 years, I won't be going back any time soon.
