Bistro St Michaels Ratings and Reviews
This was our first time at Bistro and it was wonderful. We had come into town to do some Christmas shopping. Kristen our server was lovely as was the young lady who greeted us when we came in. The young man who served our bread was just as kind. Food was delicious and drinks were excellent. This was a lovely evening and we appreciate the kindness, delicious food and wonderful time! We will be back!
One of the best dining experiences we've had in a while. Food was very good. Trumped only by the service. Our hostess and waiter were as welcoming, kind, and engaged as anyone could ever expect. We will definitely come back on our next visit to St. Michaels.
The food, service, and atmosphere was amazing! My wife and I were celebrating our 22nd year anniversary and a birthday and the hostess, Deborah made sure everything was perfect! Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the food and wine which made our dining one to remember!
The Young Family
My wife and I celebrated our 42nd anniversary and had a fabulous meal and evening. My wife is ovolactovegetarian and the Chef prepared a very beautiful and scrumptious special meal. The waiter, Thomas was friendly, attentive and personable, adding a nice addition to the evening. My wife and I liked the open kitchen, and it made us feel like we were part of the restaurant process. The atmosphere is pleasant, slightly cozy, and just comfortable.
We were greeted nicely when we arrived even though we had to wait, politely cared for at the bar. We were seated in a booth which we requested but discovered the booth was so wide our friends felt miles away. The menu is diverse, there were many attractive choices although our server heavily advertised two which he later said were sold out.
Some of our dishes were really extraordinary well one was really disappointing. The foie gras was grilled to perfection, served with tart stewed cherries and frisée. Amazing. Our friend said his duck confit was out of this world, falling off bone with a divine pasta stuffed with braised duck meat. The scallops with risotto and the schnitzel were reported to be excellent. However my bouillabaisse was truly disappointing with okay shellfish, way too much rockfish, homely zucchini all surrounded by a very pedestrian and way too salty tomato sauce. No fun to make the booking and have the least good dish.
I️ know we will come back as the restaurant is reliable and very pleasant.
We had passed this restaurant by in recent visits due to the walk-by look of the place - it just seemed like it might be a rather ordinary and small place, nothing special. But boy were we surprised. Don't judge a book by its cover! We were greeted so warmly when we arrived a half hour early for a drink at the bar, had a wonderfully delicious dinner, outstanding service and will be going back many times in the future - no doubt about it. It had the ambiance we liked and was cozy and perfect for the two of us. Our waiter, Gary, was a gem. Well done, Bistro!
We had an excellent experience at this restaurant recently. Our server was outstanding, very attentive without being intrusive. The food was well prepared and well presented. They offer a couple of chefs specials on many evenings and we were not disappointed when we tried one of them. Everything was prepared fresh and we had a nice booth next to the window. It was easy to have a conversation, so we did not find the restaurant too noisy. They have some very nice Wines By The Glass, but they are not cheap. But it does give you an opportunity to try a good wine without buying the entire bottle. Overall, an excellent evening and a very nice restaurant.
The food was good, but the presentation and pairings all seemed a bit outdated. We were seated downstairs in the front of the restaurant, and the small space got quite noisy with all the tables filled and grouped closely together. My husband ordered one of the specials the waiter offered, only to find out when the bill arrived that it was $15 more than all the standard entrees on the menu. Had it been extraordinary, we wouldn't have minded the cost difference, but it was just a veal chop and grits with some watercress as garnish - that's all. We knew the veal would be on the higher end of the menu, but for $45 just for the entree, I would expect a bit more "oomph" on the plate. Otherwise, the waiter and other service was attentive.
Each of our party of four had a different entree, but each of us agreed that our food was exceptional. Our helpful waitress performed well in every aspect of the service. By the glass wine list offered unusual premium selection not often found by the glass.
Bistro is so lovely and charming! We always try to go when we are visiting St. Michaels. The ambience and décor are my favorite in town. It is a charming environment, but has been modernized over the years. There is even a bar area for more casual dining now. We love the porch or the more formal second floor. The food is consistently delicious and the wine list is superb. Surprisingly, the list specializes in California wines, rather than French. They have many wonderful CA cult wines. The service is warm and professional. You won't be disappointed at bistro.
We loved the food at this Bistro and our waiter was attentive, but the rest of the staff seemed eager to get us out the door. So what was suppose to be a relaxing birthday dinner was cut short with glares from other staff members and lights being turned off. We had 7:30 dinner reservation and left at 8:45. I guess you may want to dine early for best experience. Probably won't return to this restaurant based on our experience.
