Perfect dinner spot to start our”date weekend” in Blowing Rock!! My boyfriend and I both enjoyed the service, food and our waiter, Matthew! Trip Advisor was Johnny on the spot. Oh, and the Mac and Cheese and Blueberry Creme Brûlée are a must try! Will definitely go back next time we are here!
Our waiter Mark was terrific. He was attentive and knowledgeable. The food was amazing. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal. Our tried and true favorite is the fig appetizer with prosciutto. It never disappoints. We have tried other restaurants in the area and Bistro Roca still remains our first choice.
We always take friends here when they come to visit us. We are here for 5 months of the year, and find it a delightful environment, service and food.
My husband and I go out to eat occasionally, but Bistro Roca is the only restaurant we have found with exceptional food, creative cuisine, friendly and dedicated serving staff. Jamison was our server and he paid attention to every detail and was very thoughtful. We will be back without a doubt to enjoy another evening dinner at the best place to eat in Watauga County.
The food was wonderful and the cocktails creative and delicious. Our server was obviously learning and made up for any shortcomings with sincerity and hustle. This is a very good restaurant and we would highly recommend.
Basically a good meal. However, both white and red sangrias had way too much fruit and not enough wine for the price. Also the Black and blue steak was ordered medium and, although very tender, was on the verge of being purple inside rather than a hot pink.
Bistro Roca was a perfect place for Father's Day Dinner! The ambiance was wonderful - low light in an intimate setting, with a lovely partially closed in patio/outdoor seating. The server was very accommodating and friendly. The food was lovely and fresh, everything was delicious!! The wood fired pizzas were lovely, and the mac and cheese is delicious!! Seriously the most creamy and amazing mac and cheese. It was slightly difficult to hear the server at points because of the muffled noise of conversations and background music, but if you were sitting near the end of the table, and don't have any sort of hearing impairment, you were fine. Food was affordable and well worth it, but the entrees are a bit pricey (avg. 18-30 some dollars). The pizzas and everything else was well-priced. Will definitely go again!!
Excellent food - nice range of food for all pallets!
Good menu, good food, great service. Slammed for Fathers Day brunch, but we were still served efficiently and courteously.
Perfect Bistro to share with a loved one or a passel of friends, sharing an artistically composed and sensually nuanced meal, supported by a matching wine selection from their awesome cellar. The wonderful service was spot on impeccable. And the ambiance from the coffered walls' photographic works of art were inspiring. Great Dinner. Great Experience.
It was a small kinda weird menu but really really good. The ribeye!! Pimento cheese!! Our waiter was really really good! Great customer service! Fast! And attention to detail. Make a reservation though. Also we did take our 5 year old and seen other kids there. When we 1st looked at it on line it looked pretty fancy and we thought it might not be kid friendly but it was. The food is quality food not ok food.
So enjoyed our dinner. It was such a fun evening! Lots of energy! They are definitely dog lovers! ;)
Went back for Fathers Day brunch and it was so so good!
Enjoyed our dinner at Bistro Roca. The food was outstanding; as usual. Great service; good food; nice atmosphere = a great experience. We are “regulars” in that whenever we’re in town, we try to make it to Bistro Roca.
Our favorite spot in Blowing Rock - Bistro Roca's chef always has something unexpected! Service is great, an easy walk from the center of town. Recommend reservations.
Always good. Specials can be excellent at times. This visit the tune special was outstanding. However, beware- we were told we got the last serving, We have been there when they have run out of entrees, mainly specials-mainly fish including salmon, but other things, too, nevertheless, food is consistent and we return fairly often
We were seated very quickly at our reservation time. Things slowed down dramatically from there. Took quite a while for our appetizers to arrive. Entrees took forever. Server said our ticket was lost ????? Food was good, nothing special but about what you would expect for the type of resort restaurant. Probably would not go back.
Our favorite Restaurant in Bowing Rock. Always fresh ingredients and friendly service. Love going there for lunch, drinks or dinner. The atmosphere is what we call :old Blowing Rock: as the building has a wonderful character.
Loved the figs! Loved the Cuban crepe! I ate every bite of both of them!
Consistently a very good choice. The menu varies according to the season. Make sure you try the fig appetizer. Delicious!!!
My fiancé and I were in Blowing Rock for 6 days, and ended up eating here 5 times. We ordered something different each time we went, and everything was excellent. In addition to the great food,
the wait staff and employees were focused and attentive. I love everything about Bistro Roca, and highly recommend this restaurant.
Food and atmosphere are both outstanding but the service was marginal at best, this appears to be the norm as I have had the same experience on multiple occasions. Not so bad that I won’t come back but certainty not something they should pride themselves on.
What an incredible place. The food was fantastic, but the prices were modest. This is a winner.
Calamari then BR Burger with sweet potato fries so delicious !
Sunday brunch. Great bloody Mary's. Excellent habi burgers and grilled chicken salad.
Wow my favorite place ever. Server Jeff was spectacular. Girls weekend away will be repeated here again. We loved the cute magnets too. Food was more amazing then we could ever imagine!
Outstanding as always. Interior redo is beautiful!
Good food, creative, good wait staff, nice atmosphere and ambience, quiet, special place
We’ve been coming to BR for many years. Always a great meal. But the last 3 times I’ve been disappointed. The steak on the black and blue was fatty & the portion of salmon on the beet salad was about 4 bites. It seems like a different chef.
Another great meal at Bistro Roca. Locally sourced ingredients where possible, creative dishes with lovely presentation, and a variety of offerings, from flat bread pizzas and burgers to elegant entrees. This time our party had salmon, scallops, crabcake and the pork bowl. Everyone enjoyed their food!
Matthew was our server and he was great!!
Sadly, I don't have the time to run through everything, but I'll give you the accurate highlights. We all know this is one of the only places in town, so as a captive audience you expect to be roughed up a little, but now the place just abuses you and doesn't care.
We walked in (having booked a couple of weeks in advance) and the greeter says we have this table here for you. Yes, the worst one by the door. No thanks, it's not my first rodeo and why don't you actually give people better tables when there are plenty free. Already feeling slightly abused.
Then the server comes, weak at best with a distinct lack of a sense of humor. Fine, we move on to be taken advantage of on the menu (over priced, uninspired and the scallop special with 3 lame dredged scallops sounded a total abuse).
Finally, we move to dessert (after already drinking crazy marked up drinks) and we are told the $9 chocolate bar they're serving as a "Torte" (please) can't be substituted from the cream that comes with it to ice cream, we must pay $1 for this. The manager (clearly they believe in empowerment of their employees as he couldn't give me $1 off my bill) has the same message for me and says they couldn't possibly, ice cream is more expensive than cream (on the dessert with a $8 mark up and $150 meal overall). Brixx or the Ivy would do it for me.
Long story short, overrated, stale and really only good for the masochistic would like to be abused and pay for it. It takes all sorts I suppose. Enjoy.
Had lunch at BR before and it was great. Dinner this time around wasn't nearly as good. Group of 4 and seated at the very first table next to the front door and kitchen. I should've asked to get another table, so that's on me. But, a bad start.
Great salad. Two of us had a steak and it was average at best. Difficult to cut and just not all that good. Expected a much better product.
Good desserts, but they'd already run out of cream brulee (and our reservation was at 7:30). Not sure how you run out of such a popular dish so early in the night.
Anyway, nice overall, but not great.
This was our second trip to Bistro Roca and we loved it! Amazing food and drink. We will be back!
Always a good experience at this restaurant. Food was impeccable, service and atmosphere wonderful.
We went for 18th wedding anniversary and the first table we sat out was in the dining room which was quiet and nice. In my reservation I had requested a nice table or booth and instead we got a two top in the middle of the dining room. It was freezing cold and the server was so sweet to move us to the patio where it was warmer. Unfortunately, that meant we lost that server and the one that we gained was so overwhelmed with the party she could hardly take care of us. The party of over 20 people was sitting next to us and they were very loud and choose to talk about on appetizing topics during dinner. Their conversation could be heard all over the dining area. It certainly did not make for a memorable evening. We were hoping for a nice romantic dinner with great food and instead we had noisy, cold and the food was definitely not what we were expecting. My husband’s ribeye was very thin and much more fatty then a ribeye normally is. This is coming from a person who normally appreciates a reasonably fatty steak. I ended up having woodfired pizza as none of the entrées found it appetizing to me. I don’t believe I would go back or recommend this to anyone for a special occasion. Maybe getting together for louder conversations and pizza. Definitely not as moderately upscale as we were expecting. Big disappointment ! Maybe if it were warm enough to start in the dining room, we would have enjoyed the atmosphere more but not sure if that makes up for the food.
This was not my first time here and will not be my last. Great place!
The patio seating with open windows to hear the birds and smell the fresh air adds so much to the dining experience. The lemon strawberry bread pudding was phenomenal! And our waitress was so sweet!
As always, we enjoyed our dinner at Bistro Roca -- especially the roast figs wrapped in prosciutto and the creative accompaniments to our entrees. We also liked the "tiered" price list of wines by the glass. In fact, the only thing we did not like was having to park two or three blocks away in a downpour, even for a relatively late seating.
There was an issue in the kitchen with some broken glass. The waiter told us about it, and was sure that we were ok with waiting a few extra minute, and that we had everything we needed. Great food and great service! Thank you!
