Bistro Roca and Antlers Bar Ratings and Reviews
New menu was being tried. Not such a great idea on a Saturday night. Great waiter but waited a VERY long time for food and a full thirty minutes between when two orders came and the other three arrived. One order was wrong item. The manager comped us two desserts and took off the wrong order and a pizza that arrived so late. Just not a great experience and we felt bad for the waiter, he was trying his best.
The restaurant has a nice atmosphere. We requested a special table as we were entertaining friends. We were seated by the fireplace, which was nice. The food, was mediocre, good, but not seasoned enough for anyone's taste at my table. Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but if a lady is at the table, she should be addressed first and her food and drink should arrive first, if all the food and drink can't arrive Together, which would be preferable.
We have visited Bistro Roca many time over the years and the last couple visits have felt that they are slipping in food preparation. We were satisfied with the appetizer spreads and the salad but the corneal crusted trout just tasted like heavy cornmeal. have had disappointments in the entries on too many recent visits.
Probably the best meal we've had in Blowing Rock in the last year. Hangar steak was perfectly prepared - tender and tasty. Habi burger was large, juicy and spicy. Lobster mac-n-cheese was a meal in itself. Service was solid, wine selection was spot on and price didn't break the bank. Can't say enough about our experience. 5 stars!
Celebrating an anniversary at this restaurant was s fun experience! Our waiter made the evening even more special! We had different items from the menu...he described each item in detail, answered questions in a fun way! Dessert was great as well! All plates were spiffy clean after we dined!
Seated next to door to outside and it was 26 outside. Very cold at table and even colder when someone went outside. Pizza was so bad could not eat it. Dough undercooked and could not find waiter to ask for it to be sent back. Will give it another try next time we are in the area. Had a meal there before and it was good.
Bistro Roca was not on its game Saturday. The food was good but the portions were incredibly small. The crab cake on the crab cake sandwich was tasty but quite small. The portion of the sweet potato fries was also very small. I had the bison flat bread and there was one small piece of bison on each piece of flat bread. Bistro Roca can do better and I sure hope they were just having an off day.
We were looking for a local restaurant that was kid friendly and this place checked all of the boxes. The server was familiar with gluten allergies and helped accommodate our family needs. The atmosphere was exactly what you would expect while in the mountains and the food was locally sourced. Will definitely be going back next time we are in town.
Even though our server was told of a food allergy one of us had, she served him a dish he couldn't eat. She lacked knowledge of the ingredients. We asked if there was cayenne in the calamari and she said "no," but we weren't sure we could trust her and asked that she talk to the chef - which she then returned and said, "actually there is cayenne in the calamari." So we didn't order that, but he then ordered the pork crepe and found out when he started eating it that it HAD CAYENNE IN IT!! "Sorry," she said, "can I get you something else?" -after his stomach was burning and everyone else was well into their entrees.
Major fail on her part, and shame on management for not training her better. My boyfriend had a really rough night from eating something we clearly warned them about.
