of comfort food they serve down south. This style of food is the inspiration behind some of the dishes we serve at Nolah

My wife is a huge fan of New Orleans cuisine, and this was a night out to treat her (along with my parents). Our expectations were surpassed in every regard.
Nolah’s location isn’t fancy - in a strip mall off of busy St-Jean Blvd north of the 40 - but the reason this restaurant is solidly booked for every service is the food. This chef-owned bistro has a tightly edited menu, a carefully curated wine list, well-crafted cocktails, and house-made desserts — and they excel at every turn.
We shared appetizers - crab cakes, fried oysters, sweet potato fritters (our fave), and buttermilk fried chicken. Everything was melt-in-your-mouth tender, flavourful, rich; subtle spice heat was matched with creamy sauces.
Fresh-baked bread was paired with small swirls of chipotle-infused butter - an early hint of the attention to detail this team puts into the experience.
Mains were a blackened catfish topped with caviar over a warm sweet potato puree (unctuous, tender, cooked to perfection) with micro greens, a red pepper coulis and dabs of green pea puree; hearty shrimp Creole with jambalaya rice, and pan-seared scallops (on the same sweet potato puree as the catfish).
Echoing Lesley Chesterman’s review from 2017, the caviar doesn’t seem to add much to the catfish, but it doesn’t subtract anything either. The crab cakes are generous arancini-sized balls rather than flattened patties; the texture of the crab meat is somewhat lost but the flavours are superb. We wished for something a little bright and acidic to pair with the fried oysters (a dash of lemon juice?). That said, all these are minor quibbles, and nothing really detracted from our meal.
Desserts - the outstanding choice is the bread pudding and the Mississippi mud pie a close second. A special, the bananas foster cheesecake, could have been more caramelized (maybe a tableside flambé?)
Staff are knowledgeable and made great cocktail suggestions (try the Sazerac).
As always food and expectations are meet when dining here. Never disappoints
We reserved a table for 5 but my husband had to sit at the end of a table for 4 and had to put things on the floor I.e.utensils salt and pepper, in order to have room for his plate on the table.
We tried this for the 1st time after hearing all the good reviews, and we were not disappointed. Food, service, ambiance and Experience were all top notch. Cant wait to go back and try something new again. Delicious.
Been a regular at Nolah’s for a few of years now and they never disappoint. Delicious food, great ambiance and fantastic service. Can’t wait to go back.
Overall amazing experience. It is the 2nd time me and my girlfriend come to the nice and cosy restaurant. The prices are moderate and the portions are great. You get what you pay for without a doubt. The food is excellent, fresh and tasty ingredients. I strongly recommend this restaurant. Will definitely come back!
Overall great dinner out. Drinks, food and service were excellent.
Food was great and service was even greater!! Highly recommend.
will be coming back soon.
- good service
- good booze
- nice ambiance
Excellent Mother’s Day brunch. Service was great, food was delicious and the ambiance was cozy.
Food selection is limited but everything on menu is great. Kids loved the Mac and cheese and the blackened catfish as well as shrimp and grits was great.
Food was delicious! Tables too close together though. Quite loud but able to have a conversation. Would go back.
Food is great !
Service very good .
Every time I go to Nolah I leave happy! It’s not only a quaint and cozy experience but the food never disappoints. No matter what I choose it’s always prepared beautifully and deliciously!
A favourite place to eat.
Have been looking forward to checking out your restaurant for some time .
Really enjoyed the Blackened Catfish and my Mum said the Crab Cakes were the best she ever had!
Service was very good and attentive. Found the lighting a bit too dark as I actually would have liked to have seen more of what was on my plate!
Amazinz service , good cocktails , very good food 🥘........ i will return for sure
Our favourite restaurant in the city! Have been many MANY times and always have a wonderful experience. Delicious cajun dishes, outstanding and authentic beignets - the best!
Les croquettes de crabes et les crevettes jambalaya sont excellentes. Bons conseils pour les vins. Belle soirée.
Amazing food with great flavours! Nice for a change in the west island since most of the options are usually Italian or Sushi.
As always, the service was impeccable and the food was exquisite. Bistro Nolah is without question my favorite restaurant on the island.
Moderate price delicious food very nice service. Will come again fro sure.
Wonderful meal with friends. Richard and Chris never disappoint!!
Great food, bad service. Waitresses spent more time cleaning and storing glasses than attending to clients.
Over priced- very small capacity- food was average and small portion.
Food and service were very good. Overall experience diminished as we were "pressed" to leave in order to vacate tables for 2nd service. Did not have time for coffees or dessert.
Was very loud once it started to fill up with people, food wasn't great - my wife had the duck confit and it was over cooked by a lot.
we also sat near the window and it happen to be right by the heater as well ... it started to get overly warm during our meal.
Outstanding restaurant...really enjoyed it very much...cozy and great service...excellent food and presentation
Un peu bruillant mais tout étqit excellent.
Effecient, knowledgeable, professional, friendly staff. Food as usual well presented and perfectly prepared.
My guest & I enjoyed our lunch. He said his Blackened Salmon was cooked perfectly.
Service was a tad slow considering it was a weekday lunchtime.
Noise level in a small room, not overly busy, was pretty elevated.
As always a great experience at Bistro Nolah. Attentive service, fantastic food - what more can you ask for. The gumbo was excellent and the blackened cod fish perfect.
Lovely place, limited tables, excellent food and great service. We've been there over 5 times and never had anything but a great experience.
As usual, the food, the service, the ambience are simply amazing!
Would love to have seen a better wine selection from them.
We dove into our meal with abandon. The wait staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. The food is small batch, filled with the flavour of Louisiana. Spicy, fun, layered and gorgeous.
Complimentary hush puppies greet you when you are seated in an intimate bright interior.
We had Louisiana crab cakes, shrimp gumbo, braised short ribs with mash and roasted parsnips, shrimp jambalaya and Mississippi mud pie to end a great meal.
Trust me. The appetizers are big enough to share as is the decadent dessert.
Although we did not have wine they have a beautiful selection to compliment your meal.
Not my first or last time at this little gem of a restaurant tucked into an inauspicious corner along St. Jean blvd.
Nice place. Great food. Great service.
Table d’hôte for lunch was great but doesn’t include the coffee... not a big thing but kind of weird to be charged $4,50 for a small regular coffee
Excellent food and top notch service. Wonderful hidden restaurant in a strip mall at the corner of St-Jean and Heaven. In DDO.
Food and service was very high quality.looking forward to dining put on the terrace in the summer time.
Food was great. Staff was very nice. However, we were cut short by 9 minutes as you had to give away our table. Your website made it clear about having to leave the table in two hours. It was not quite two hours. Very disappointed
attach cork sound absorbing panels to the walls. way too noisy
