Very busy restaurant
And very extra accommodating host manager owner!
Have us great experience in spite of very crowded small setting.
Would go back in a minute!
The food was fine. Nothing special, but good.
They have so many tables jammed into this small restaurant, that’s it’s difficult to move.
That also accounts for the ridiculous noise level. There was a large party taking up half the restaurant. It was necessary to scream at others at our table to get above the noise level.
I don’t think we’d return, unless perhaps at a quieter time during the week.
Service and food extraordinary. Ten people for dinner and everything was delicious, hot and beautifully presented. Cannot wait to return!
Thanks for a wonderful evening!
Great food, great service!! Loved this place
It was a wonderful dining experience and very reasonable and quaint.
Awesome as usual! Great service and the food is authentic! Thanks again!
La Baia is a great place for a romantic date. Excellent food and the service is impeccable. The hostess and waitstaff were so kind and attentive. We will certainly be back!
We have gone twice and both times had an excellent experience. The servers were absolutely amazing. They were kind, funny, and hospitable. The food was so good and the atmosphere is romantic.
Fantastic find. Can't wait to visit again. Food is delicious. Service excellent. Good price.
Loved it the first time. Loved it the second time. Great place and great servers.
Excellent from start to finish & it’s BYOB!
The staff were very personable; they all have great personalities, kept coming over to ensure we were taken care of and offered suggestions.
The food was delicious!! We had the salmon risotto and seafood pasta along with 2 appetizers. Everything was filling and delectable.
We’ve not been for quite a long time even though we live around the corner and we very much enjoyed our return and the new owners. The salmon was very well prepared and the pasta was fresh. I’d like to see more specials as the menu hasn’t changed in 15 years, but we had a great meal and caught up with neighbors.
delicious good, friendly staff. and they even made me my favorite dish from years ago that had since been taken off the menu!
Slowwwww service but solid food.
This place was amazing!!! The service was great and the food was sooooooo good!!
Charming place, home cooked feeling, mushroom soup, grilled calamari appetizers were delicious, as was our meals!
Great meal. Great meal and a good time with friends.
We were seated promptly. The service was great as was the food. The qty served was excellent. Seating a little close... it’s a small space.
Another great meal! Thanks for exceeding expectations again. The chicken parm (which is not on the menu but can be requested) was the absolute best-ever!
As an Italian who grew up eating wonderful homemade food, I can attest that I love this place! Recently my family needed to get a bite prior to a show at the Academy of Music. La Baia is about a 10-minute walk away, and was very uncrowded on a Sunday night at 5:00, so were in and out in no time. We had a fantastic meal and great service.
I remember eating here frequently about 12 years ago but eventually we moved out of the city so we stopped going. It's still a gem! We will make this a regular pre-show location for wonderful Italian food!
I was excited to try this neighborhood BYOB, but I was really dissapointed with the food and service.
Fresh gnocchi were delicious! Appetizers were scrumptious. Seating was a little tight but it was cozy.
The food was delicious, but the service was subpar. One gentleman as host and server for much of the evening until one other server arrived around 7pm. The check was dropped at our table without anyone asking us if we’d like coffee or dessert.
Very disappointing. We had four diners, and none of our meals were very good. Oversauced and somewhat tasteless. The chicken piccata almost felt like eating a packaged dinner entree.
Love this neighborhood gem. Basic philly Italian food. Staff has been there since opening. Love Lisa and her team. Like going home for a home cooked meal!!
Owners were lovely and provided good service. Food was good and came out quickly. Fyi, they are cash only.
I usually like Italian resuruants with a real Philadelphia feel, but the food and experience here was more like a nice cafeteria than an Italian restaurant. The food was not fresh and pre prepared. The resuruant was understaffed and run by the owners, who could desperately use more staff. When we asked for the check we were ignored and had to ask three more times.
Bistro La Baia is an Italian restaurant tucked away in a typical Philly neighborhood, yet it's conveniently within walking distance of the arts and theater district on Broad Street. It's small -- maybe 40 seats -- and friendly, and the food is excellent. Salad ingredients were fresh and abundant. An unusual eggplant appetizer was tasty and filling, and our entrees were very good. The tiramisu is one of the best we've had. Portions are satisfying. We were there during Restaurant Week and had the prix fixe special, but their regular prices looked reasonable for a big city. But if you're expecting a grandiose setting or an atmospheric grotto, forget it. It's a street-level location that could have been any kind of shop. A couple of large paintings provide all the decor, and though it's not unattractive, you won't leave raving about the setting. The real draw is the food. Bring your own wine -- they don't have a liquor license.
The gnocchi was wonderful!
The tables are squished together so there's no privacy for conversation. They seated the guests all of n 1 section even though the other tables were empty.
Amazing! My boyfriend and I always love coming here for date night!!
Food was great! Excellent customer service! The only downfall is cash only! I'll take it!
The appetizers were tasty and a value for the price. The mussels in a spicy tomato sauce and the mushrooms with shrimp were really good. The second courses were decidedly so-so. The veal pizzaiola was a bit soggy, but ok. The pappardelle with sausage was disappointing.
Love it here! Every time I'm there I leave happy with the service and the food!
We had walked past Bistro La Baia while walking in our neighborhood and finally decided to check it out for a meal. The atmosphere was pleasant- authentic decor in an intimate space plus not too crowded for a Friday evening. The food was delicious- we all got different pastas- and the servings were very generous. BYOB was an added perk. Definitely a great neighborhood find to add to our rotation when we are in the mood for pasta!
I had a phenomenal time at bistro la Baia! I went with a large group and we had amazing service and great food. Plus as a byob it was a steal!
Lisa , the server, is so friendly and helpful. You know you're in Philly. She's the real deal. Food is delicious, esp. the funghi with shrimp. Mmmmmmm.
Great local spot.
La Baia is a restaurant we discovered over 10 years ago. Then, we thought it was incredible food and the small, family-owned Italian restaurant within walking distance of the theater district in Philly made it one of our favorites. Over the years, our palates have progressed, so the food isn't so "amazing" to us anymore. It is still very good, just not other-worldly. We love that the same guy and gal still run this place and the menu remains quite similar all these years later. We know what we'll get: a delicious meal in a cozy little restaurant run by a small family. Def recommend it to friends.
Misto salad had just lettuce and under ripe tomato. Like 4 tiny pieces. Barely dressed. Salmon tasted fishy not fresh. Waitress was abrupt
We enjoyed sitting outside for dinner at La baia. The food and service was great. We especially liked the mushroom appetizer and steak special. BYOB is also a plus!
This review is mainly for OpenTable and less Bistro la Baia. At about 7 pm Open table allowed me to make a 7:45 pm reservation for 5 people at the restaurant. When we arrived we were told by the restaurant they could not honor that reservation as they had told OpenTable they were full for the night. It was very frustrating to arrive, excited for the good food I'm sure we would have had, only to be turned away at the door. At this point it was close to 8 pm and we could not get in at any other restaurant and ended up just eating pizza. I would recommend to anyone that if you book this restaurant on OpenTable you call and confirm with them that you can in fact get in otherwise you may run the risk of being turned away hungry.
