We returned to the Bistro Francais on Saturday 4/30 for dinner with old friends, and it was just as fantastic as we remembered it from 19 years ago! We were engaged there and chose it for our rehearsal dinner way back in 1997. We are sad that this neighborhood gem is closing. The asparagus vinaigrette and peppercorn steak were still amazing, the ambience and service fantastic. If we still lived in DC we would definitely have been able to go more. Thank you for everything, Bistro Francais!

In fact, Bistro Francais is permanently excellent. I remember eating here every weeknight for nearly five years -- 20 years ago. Food is exactly the same -- authentic, well-prepared, well priced and very, very tasty. I strongly recommend BF for casual fare, faithful to its French bistro roots. BF is my BFF once again!

We reserved a table for brunch from Peru because I was looking for great places for eggs Benedict in DC. We were not dissapointed.
The service was friendly, premises comfy and "french bistro looking" and the food excellent. Restaurant is located on M street in Georgetown, a lively and busy place, very nice.

I've been coming her for many years whenever in DC. It was a treat to come here with my family and the food is very traditional French brasserie fare, but well executed and delicious. The only complaint I have is that they should have more French-speaking waiters ... à bientôt !

Great location in the heart of Georgetown on M street. Service was excellent and very discrete (thank you). The food though was really nothing special ... it was good, but not great and not good enough to warrant the prices.

My wife and I were first time visitors to Le Bistro Francais on April 11,2016. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and she enjoyed her birthday. We look forward to another visit and are eternally grateful to the staf and the kitchen for a wonderful evening.

I hadn't eaten here in years so was looking forward to it. The service was poor, the food was ok although it has really lost the French bistro fare and become very American. No water refills. The people next to us got completely the wrong meal. The are many Georgetown resturants will a lot more to offer with better food and service. Don't waste your time.

Even on a crowded Easter Sunday brunch, the service & food were still superb.
Never had a bad meal here. Great French Onion Soup and Steak Frite as well.

We have been coming here for 30 years and have never had a bad meal. We both had the tournedos - delicious - and gazpacho and escargots. The menu does not change much but that's part of the appeal.

Bistro Francais is my favorite place to eat I've been going for 18 years. Our server was professional and nice, knowledgeable about the menu as well.

If you've been to other notable Bistros you won't be impressed by Bistro Francais. We are very gourmand and demanding people and don't think we will return. I am not crazy about eating in a very touristy area and I think this is what the place offers. Service was very good, food choices not very french at all or should I say not your typical french food, a mix of Mediterranean and french. Quality was good not great for the prices on the menu. Just opening the menu and seeing an appetizer of some sort of grilled lamb sausage just put me off. Again we lived in France many years and our standards are high. So this place might easily appeal to others.

The space is warm and inviting, with lovely Art Noveau posters scattered about. The menu has old and new bistro favorites, all well cooked and coming up promptly. The service is pleasant without hovering. The dessert tray has my old favorites. The wine list has several wonderful reds from the Southwest.
Always excellent, but without competition for after theatre dining. After many years, it still never disappoints.

The food was excellent! Everything was cooked perfectly! And the staff was knowledgeable and very. If there was any complaint, it would be that the tables are pretty close together. But we were there before the busy hour so it didn't create a problem for us. I would definitely recommend this restaurant!

My daughter and I like to go out for brunch at Bistro Francais to celebrate special occasions (i.e., birthday, mothers day). We would LOVE to go more but schedules get in the way. The eggs benedict are out of this world as is the salad, fries, and even bread. I cannot imagine ordering anything else while I am there. I keep saying I will come for dinner sometime, but it just has not worked out.

I will be a brunch customer for a very long time.

The Bistro Français is a wonder - the chef is extremely talented, the ambience is lovely, the staff attentive, the steak/frites always superb, the rognons tender, the wine list short but imaginative, and it STAYS OPEN LATE - till 4 a.m. on weekends - a joy in our increasingly dull age of early-to-bedders. Our only concern (we ate here twice, this past Sunday and last night) is that the restaurant is not attracting enough diners. It's old-fashioned in a fabulous way, everything from the starters to the freshly baked desserts is impeccably prepared and simply presented. Every time we come to Washington (we live in New York) we make a beeline to this place. The service is friendly, polite, warm, convivial, without being either too formal or too familiar. And the food's the real deal. Excellent French cooking-- both of the classic and the bistro variety. You can't go wrong here. Come eat at the Bistro Français early, late, and often, and bring all your friends. If you haven't been here in a while it will rekindle your confidence in delicious French food.

Service was mediocre. Made a special request for a birthday dessert but it never came. Food was good.

We love French bistros and were looking forward to a nice meal on a very cold day. We liked the ambiance, but the food was quite mediocre. The best part was the warm baguette and butter.

We have been going to this restaurant for 25+ years and it has never failed to impress with excellent food and service. There is nothing negative to say from me or my guests.

We particularly liked the attention of our server Tanya who was very attentive to the special requests of our son and made it a very enjoyable experience to have Christmas Brunch at Bistro Francais.

The Bistro is the best and has been for the 34 years we have been going there. The service is spot on and the food is just great and truly French. Christmas Day they had a well-priced $29 champagne lunch and a bunch of other $25 specials. Of course, it is the place where the kiss was born, for those who do not know. So sorry that their seasonally scrooged landlord caused them to forgo one half of the restaurant but the former Pam Pam Cafe serves nicely. I can't imagine who will buy the stuff in the window now next door! Talk about something Georgetown did not need!

Went to Bistro Francais after seeing "Akeelah and the Bee" at Arena Stage. She started with the Corn Soup off the Daily Specials menu and got the Leg of Lamb from the regular menu. I got the Country Pate, which was part of the Two-Course Special offerings, and a Quiche Lorraine from the regular menu. We split a Banana Split for dessert. Everything was very tasty. Service was attentive and friendly, as usual.

Bistro Francais remains our favorite Georgetown restaurant.

Every dish was technically perfect and wonderful. Service was professional, polite and friendly. Ambiance was like a traditional French bistro. Will definitely return!

This was my first time in 2 years and it still felt like the old days... food is still awesome and the ambiance perfectly calm. Would definitely go back there again and recommend it. From the person welcomig us to the waitresses everybdywas nice and the french bread... yum!!

Omelets and eggs benedict were delicious. This is a great place for a lunch that is satisfying and not too heavy. Staff was very efficient and friendly. I would definitely return for lunch and would love to try dinner.

We visited our favorite Georgetown place after "Oliver!" at Arena Stage because we knew it wouldn't be closing early because of the holiday. Both of us ordered from the 2-item specials menu. I got the country pate and beef brochettes. She had the salad and lamb. She also got the escargot -- one of her favorites. We split a bottle of Beaujolais nouveau rather than order by the glass as we normally do. Everything was delicious, Service was friendly and efficient as usual.

Decent food, restaurant needs a makeover. Service was ok, but not great. Not sure how they remain open in Georgetown, as it wasn't busy on a busy Sunday in Georgetown. There are MUCH better French restaurants in the city than this one.

Bistro Francais has become expensive. Perhaps as one of the few places in town with a kitchen open really late, it can charge what the market will bear. The prix-fixe looks really reasonable until you order a cocktail and a bottle of wine. No complaint about the food and service; they're good. But not THAT good.

No-frills experience, but at least the food and the service are good. The restaurant could use some remodeling to make it look more updated.

Wonderful gem of a bistro right on M Street in Georgetown! It is easy to see why the restaurant has been in existence for 40 years. The staff was attentive and the food delicious--particularly the homemade pastries! A touch of France in Georgetown.

My wife and I throughly enjoyed our time at the wonderful bistro. The pâté appetizer was delicious. I had the lamb that was perfectly cooked and my wife had the duck that she discribed as perfect. Our waitress was delightful and paid attention to us and our needs. She also engaged in pleasant conversation and made the meal just right.

Bistro Francais has some of the best food in Georgetown, along with being easily the most pleasant place to eat: handy location, quiet enough to talk easily, lovely decor, pleasant attentive service.
It has no competition in being the best place to eat in Washington after ten o'clock, when everywhere else has closed its kitchen.
My wife and I have been going for quite a few years and will keep coming back again and again.

I love this place! Very good French food that is reasonably priced. It has a casual, friendly atmosphere. I eat here every few weeks and I am never disappointed.
