They have closed their doors! Very disappointing as it has been our favorite Asheboro restaurant since they opened. My wife and I even had our wedding reception there.
We found Bistro 42 while traveling through town. Convenient to our hotel, but not a chain restaurant, which we tend to avoid. It's in a strip center, so ambiance inside and out is a little plain. Entire staff was very friendly and accommodating. Thursday night happened to be half price wine night (always a good thing). We split the Sashima Tuna appetizer and it was very good, and a good portion. Hubby had the Bistro Chicken Rustica- also good. I had the Blackened Beef Tips (an appetizer) as an entree. Very large portion and cooked exactly to my specification but unfortunately was chewy. Overall, the meal was delightful. We were glad to find such a nice independent restaurant.
Pleasant atmosphere in a small strip mall. Generous portions of well prepared food. Knowledgeable servers. Good wine list.
We have always liked dining at Bistro 42...the food has never disappointed and the service is usually quite good. Lately, with new management, some of the menu items have received a little makeover, and what was once good service is now outstanding!
The food and service were outstanding!
We will definitely be back!
We went for diner on valentines weekend and loved it. It was a little pricey but it totally was worth every penny. The food was amazing ( Tuna Appetizer was delish). Our server Anna was very sweet and apparently has a photographic memory the way she rattled off the specials and remembered our complicated order without writing it down. Over all it was a very wonderful experience and I will be going back.
Dinner was great, but the restaurant did not receive my Open Table reservation. Next time I will call the restaurant directly. I showed them my reservation number but they had no record of it.
When we arrived they did not have our reservation. Luckily there was a table. The food was good but the service was middle of the road. The food came out at all different times and a few things we asked for were overlooked. I will def try it again though.
Husband and I met sister and brotherinlaw here for lunch, mid way between Charlotte and Raleigh. Great food and presentation. Wait staff was excellent. Needs a bigger sign on Rt 64.
Will be back. Already told neighbor about it.
I found Bistro 42 eight years ago on a visit through Asheboro and have loved it ever since. Now I travel the two hours to get there at least once a year to enjoy the regular menu items I love best (blackened beef tip, pomme frites)and try new ones. I have never been disappointed. If you are in the area you owe it to yourself to go.
Ashley at the bar was wonderful. She even stuffed some bleu cheese olives for me. Food was unexpectedly good. Truly for Ashesboro, N.C. Our server was new and was willing to find out my questions about the menu. I will go back when in Ashesboro. David, manager/owner, check on us to make sure we were care for and the restaurant meant our expectation.
Good ambiance. A little more upscale then you expect in this area. Wine list was adequate. The menu looked promising. However, I got the pilaf under and the sauce was so heavy. I barely could taste the fish, the pilaf, and the "spicy coleslaw". actually the meal seemed bland but looked like it should taste better. The appetizer was a chicken lettuces wrap, salty with warm Boston lettuce leaves. My Dinner guest got the shrimp and grits and loved it with a Cesar salad. so maybe I got the wrong thing
Nice evening spent at Bistro. I particularly like the menu insert with nightly specials that complements an already good menu. Food we received was appropriately warm and presented very nicely. Drink specials were too sweet for our taste so we passed. Bistro has more competition than it used to but is holding well.
Mussel app was very good. Entree special was over cooked but they fixed that with no problem. Companion had a stuffed chicken breast which was excellent. The key lime pie got rave reviews at our table. Service was very good. Efficient, unobtrusive...just the way I like it. I put a 25% tip on my credit card but noticed that the charge sent in was for the meal and tax only. I was disappointed that the management did not give my intended tip to the server. It is going to be difficult finding and keeping competent servers if you deny them their intended tips. There are other restaurants in Asheboro every bit as good as this one. I went to one of them last night for the second time. I live a 35 minute drive away from Asheboro in a larger city with many very good restaurants bit I enjoy a tasty adventure...not at the expense of a really good server, though.
We met here for lunch. It was the first time for the 5 of us at this restaurant. The food, service and selection were all very good. Definitely worth visiting if you are in the area.
Bistro 42 is our "go to place". We love the food. we love supporting a local restaurant! We love the waitresses. Our favorite place in Asheboro!
We had an extraordinary waitress. She was very attentive and anticipated our needs. The food was very good. My guest ordered the Reese's Cup pie. It was delicious. It's worth the trip just to experience the pie. The presentation of all dishes was very nice.
The staff here is very accommodating; we arrived @ 1:30 and they made every attempt to make us feel welcomed. The food is fresh and tasty, wine was very good and pizza was the best ever. We celebrated Birthdays and the staff made it special.
We have eaten at Bistro 42 many times and have never been disappointed. It is our go to place for date night, special occasions and even lunch with our children. The kids love the pizza and we love everything else about it. We've explored the menu and have never had anything we didn't like. The Bisto 42 is an absolute gem and worth any drive!
We has a new server; service was very slow and had to ask for refills on beverages, bread, etc. Food was excellent!
Our party of five shared 2 appetizers (oysters with Texas pete aioli and steamed mussels)- both delicious and well presented. Then two diners had the miso sashimi tuna, one had the grilled pesto salmon with risotto, the fourth diner had a filet while the fifth person ordered 2 portions of the mussels as an entree and I will say there was not a shred of food left after we were done. Bistro 42 is always delicious and always reliable. The menu offers plenty of variety for all tastes. Servers are consistently pleasant! Bistro is also a favorite lunch spot offering the design your own salad and other sandwiches and paninis. Highly recommend!!!
I’d never been to Asheboro before, and I confess I did not have high expectations for a nice dinner. However, a little searching revealed a number of well reviewed places (and a lot of bad ones!).
We chose Bistro Forty Two mostly because it was easy to find—and I’m glad we did.
Don’t let the strip center location fool you. While the decor is nothing special, it’s clean and comfortable.
The menu was diverse, the wine list reasonably wide ranging and nicely priced. Good selection of beers too.
The food was outstanding. I had one of the evening’s specials, a roasted rack of lamb. Done to perfection, excellent reduction sauce with it. Other dinners at the table included shrimp and grits, a grilled steaks, fried oysters (great presentation), caesar salad, and awesome creme bruelle. All six of us really enjoyed our dinners.
Service was quick, knowledgable and friendly. Our server did a great job throughout the evening.
Although it was a Saturday night, alas the restaurant never filled up. I hope the area gets behind this gem.
Really enjoyed our evening, this spot gets a great recommendation.
I made the reservation on-line, which was a great help. Our table was ready when we arrived although why one setting was facing the wall, I didn't quite understand, or why our server didn't give me the silverware when I took another seat. We ordered a bottle of wine, but when it was brought to me for inspection, I noticed that it had already been opened...it was replaced. Disappointed in the bread selection and service. When one has oil/vinegar, it should be served with a bread that will soak up the liquid. I had the shrimp & grits and although it was tasty, the presentation was off-putting. My friends were quite pleased with their entrees. I also tasted their dessert (the one I ordered wasn't available) and expected better flavor.
Was on a business trip in Asheboro and wish I was going to stay the rest of the week so I could have another opportunity to go back again! Pizza was out of this world. Hummus dip - ditto! Excellent menu and wide variety. VERY good food!!
This is a comfortable place to dine and everyone is friendly and welcoming.
The food is consistently good but the restaurant has a tendency to book large parties into a very small dining room. The noise level at our most recent visit was so high that conversation was virtually impossible and it spoils the dining experience. Prospective diners looking for a romantic evening might call the restaurant first to see if large parties are expected that evening.
Having traveled between Raleigh and Charlotte on route 64 many times, finding a good place for dinner has always been a challenge. Bistro 42 is the perfect place - good selection of dishes with fresh produce and friendly and efficient service. There were a number of diners including some larger parties, which is a good recommendation in itself. Wine list offers variety at a reasonable price.
We've been to the Bistro 42 many times since it opened and have always been extremely pleased with the food and the service. For many years it was the only "quality" restaurant in Asheboro and it has improved with time. Whatever you do, don't miss the fried oysters!!!
Our server obviously didn't know what she was doing. We asked her about the two prices on the appetizer and was told the higher price was a double appetizer (which we ordered). When it arrived, it was made up as a meal with a small amount of meat for the table of 5 to share. She also asked me when I ordered my meal if I wanted the beef tips (appetizer) as well. The appetizer order had not been put it to be cooked yet. We had ordered the appetizer at least 15 to 20 minutes earlier. After the appetizer, we again waited a very long time, and we had to ask for our salad to be served. I have been there many times before and this was the first time such poor service.
Food took way too long to get to us causing the overall evening timeline with my customer to go too long.
Having read reviews prior to making a reservation and reading that service seemed to be their weakness, we have to agree. Our main server was great - he was efficient and knowledgeable. There was a young girl bringing things to the table who didn't seem to understand what was going on around her. She took our drink orders incorrectly (didn't write anything down).
Food was ok.
Atmosphere is what it is I guess. Last unit at the end of a shopping plaza ...
Incredibly mediocre service for such a unique menu & fantastic food. Server was either very distracted or working too much territory. It was abundantly clear that we weren't the only frustrated table. Easily the best food in Asheboro, hoping the service can live up to the main attraction in the future.
Great intimate setting but not to intimate that you couldn't enjoy a few drinks after work at the bar.
The food was very good but way overpriced. We ordered baked flounder served "with" citrus salad. What we received was two portions of warm flounder over a small portion of vegetables and rice. While the sauce had a good favor, the flounder could have been broiled for better texture and served skinless, and the salad was a joke since a good portion of it was a filler of rice. At $20/plate we expected more. In addition we waited at least 40 minutes for the food to arrive in a restaurant that was approximately 30% full on a night (valentines day) that I would have expected it to be full.
The food is flavorful and is well presented, but I have to say we left with stomachs looking for more and our wallet much lighter.
Great little spot for dinner pre uhwarrie mountain run! Thank you!
The food and presentation were excellent. Ironically, one of the featured after-dinner drinks was a Bailey's coffee, however, I was not able to order this as they were out of Bailey's!! And on a Saturday night, which is usually the biggest crowd night. This was concerning given the need for a small, privately owned restaurant to be able to compete with the local chains just down the street such as Chili's and Rockola where a fully stocked bar is the norm and the selection is even more extensive. Personally, I prefer the smaller, more intimate dining experience and hope Bistro 42 makes it as the food and the service were fabulous!! This is truly a hidden Asheboro gem!
Had a group birthday luncheon for 8 ladies. Our waitress was wonderful and took great care of us. Wonderful food!
Bistro 42 has a great menu with diverse choices. The wine selection & dessert menu add the perfect touch to a great dining experience. The shrimp & grits and the key lime pie is delicious.
In a word, the food was fantastic! Oyster appetizers were great and the filet was cooked perfectly.
We made our reservation with Open Table during intermission and were able to walk right in after the ballet. Food and sevice were great as usual!
