Usually this is a decent place, but our most recent visit was “off.” Service was cold, impersonal and scarce. The restaurant was not full, though there was a large party in the private room upstairs that spilled out into the main restaurant.
Service challenges: we arrived 7 mins ahead of our reservation on a cold morning and were told to wait outside. Why couldn’t we have stood inside the door for 7 minutes? We didn’t want or expect anything...but to be told to leave was definitely off-putting.
Once seated, and our meal underway, we had to ask 4 times and 3 different people for a second cup of coffee. Our dining partner had to ask 3 times and 2 different people for milk for tea.
Will wait a long while before returning.
We booked a special lunch at Bistro du Midi to follow our civil wedding ceremony. The staff was fantastic in making sure we had the most comfortable table and even comped is a dessert at the end of the meal.
A modern American French Bistro. Good food, well prepared and presented at a reasonable price.
Exceeded our expectations!!
The halibut was DELICIOUS! Melts in your mouth bursting with flavor.
Plan ahead and order the chocolate souffle. It is Absolutely worth the 30 min. for them to make it especially for you.
Our waiter was very attentive and accommodating.
We sat outside and had a beautiful view of the public garden.
Plan to go to this restaurant - you will be happy you did!
Based on reviews, we were hoping for a romantic dinner. It did not turn out that way. Too bright, children seared next to us, no intimate feel in the restaurant. Food, however, was great.
It would be hard to improve upon the view of the Public Garden from our table in this tasteful 2nd floor dining room, and the service and food was well above average. Am told the chef's just returned from a 2-year stint at Le Bernadin in NYC, and the execution and plating of each dish shows it. Courses were timed perfectly, and wines are well chosen. Go for the bouillabaise ($41) and share it. The chocolate souffle was also textbook and fabulous.
My husband and I went to celebrate my birthday before seeing a show at the Boston Opera House. We shared the tuna tartare, octopus, fois gras terrine, monkfish with escargots, and chocolate souffle. Every bite was a treat, and I was so glad to have chosen this place for my celebrations. We'll definitely be back.
What a nice evening. The food was delicious, our server was wonderful and the ambience was perfect. We will definately be back our next trip to Boston.
Great atmosphere. Elegant but not snobby. Fantastic menues. Excellent food. Friendly people. Would go back anytime.
We had a wonderful birthday this week. And will be back for our birthday next week
We have dined here many times over the few years. It remains one of our go to places in the city. The menu had significant changes in the past 6 months and the results were a great restaurant only got better. Our server Lyndon was incredible.
We made a reservation for 9:30. As soon as we arrived, we were told the kitchen closed at 10. We ordered quickly - and continued to be rushed throughout the meal. Our server was clearly annoyed that we were causing her to work late. It was very disappointing. Don’t take late reservations if they are unwanted.
While the food was delicious, the service was atrocious! After waiting to be seat, the hostess led us to our table where we sat for 20 minutes before the first server even approached us. Rather than welcoming us to the restaurant, he leaned over from the adjacent table to ask for our drink and food order (without sharing any information on specials). We proceeded to order wine which took another 10-15 minutes to arrive. Given the service, we had asked for the bottle to be left on the table to which the waiter rolled his eyes. After another 20 minutes of waiting, we finally had to chase the waiter down to put in our food order and were not provided bread until the appetizers even came out. While I understand the restaurant was busy, the attitude and lack of attention was horrendous especially for the price point. Given the number of high(er) end options in Boston we will never be going back to Bistro du Midi.
We had a group of six for my wife's 50th birthday celebration, and we all had the truffle and fois gras tasting menu. All the courses were outstanding, the wine pairings perfect and innovative, the service laid back and friendly. We all had a wonderful time.
Brunch menu only which was not inspiring. The tuna tartare was literally 3 mouthfuls and was nothing spectacular. My wife’s iceberg salad was tasteless and the chicken breast dry
Thankfully they have a great view of Boston Common.
Maybe the other menus are better however this couple felt ‘ripped off’ this time around
Felt it was over priced and that ambition had overtaken delivery to a degree.
Nice spot across from the Public Gardens. Grabbed a bite before a show in the theater district. I loved my Ahi Tuna Salad Nicoise. Wife loved the salmon on chopped salad. Nice open feel with Street seating. Lovely place. Decent service.
Dinner at the Bistro du Midi is almost as good as being in Paris. The food, the attentive service, presentation, and the view access Boston Conmon make an ordinary dinner out extraordinary. Dinner in the bar is graced with fabulous photographs of Paris and France. Tres belle.
Excellent food and service
One of the only Boston restaurants with a homemade souffle that you can order with your meal as it take 25 min minimum
We visit every time we come to Boston
Halibut was disappointing. Few of our table of 6 raved about the food.
Delicious food and fabulous service in a location just across from the Commons. Everyone in our large group was very pleased with their food and the wines were delicious with many affordable choices. We were under time pressure and the staff made sure to get us out on time. Great place!
The halibut entree was amazing. We also loved the hot dessert soufflés which must be ordered early--with the entree order--in order to allow time for the baking.
Pleasant welcome, friendly staff and a nice meal
Elegant dining, always consistent in food quality and superb service.
Service was fantastic. Highly recommend the Salmon Benedict - perfectly poached eggs on warm, buttery bread with very fresh salmon, hollandaise, and lettuce on the side to cut the richness. My friends and I also shared the lemon ricotta pancakes, which were good, though the pancakes were a bit sweet and I would prefer more of that delicious lemon-lavender sauce (maybe I should've asked for some on the side, haha). The waffles with duck confit were also good. This brunch was wonderful, and the view of the Boston Common from the second floor was lovely.
Dinner was great! Nice meal preps and presentations & everything was delicious. Very nice wine list & great service. Loved my chocolate soufflé! YUM!
Everything we ate was really good. Alex, our waiter, took really good care of us. You can’t go wrong here.
The oysters were perfection and the pasta truffle special was one of the most delicious things I have EVER tasted. The Ginger Slide cocktail was delicious. The view is lovely - one of the prettiest views in the city. Midori at the desk was wonderful.
Good- nothing exceptional
We sat at the bar for a casual dinner. The drink menu was extensive and wine list was good. Generous pour!! The food menu was varied- quick one course meal or a 3 course fine dining. My wife ordered Mussels which was perfectly prepared and my Chicken order was not acceptable and they quickly removed it. Had a superb Burger with fries. The staff was apologetic and the evening ended up being very pleasant. Worth visiting again and worth recommending.
Lovely birthday dinner for 2! Excellent food and impeccable service.
I love this place. It is perfection. When I visit my son in Boston, it is a go-to place for brunch or lunch. I love the food, location and ambience. I will return again and again.
The spaghettis in the lobster pasta is too hard. Otherwise all food is great.
The food, while not exactly innovative or imaginative, is nevertheless quite tasty. Some dishes are based on local ingriedients and are quite delicious. A beet salad that I had was especially enjoyable.
Bartender was rude and had an attitude. Ruined the evening for us.
Perfect place for a late lunch...we all enjoyed our meals, and our servers was outstanding.
Food was good, but desserts were quite disappointing this time; we expected a more French experience with real bread for example, amuse-bouche and/or mignardises. A bit too fast to us for an evening special occasion.
The food is not good. The portions are super small and not very elaborate. I wouldnt recomend it.
Excellent food and great service.
