excellent food all around: oysters, salads, halibut, chicken, sorbet, bread. everything was terrific. service was impersonal but attentive. but come on: 95 degrees and humid outside and they've got the front doors wide open and no air conditioning upstairs in the dining room -- are you kidding me?! we're sitting there enjoying a wonderful dinner dressed in business suits and melting in our chairs. inexcusable, and a horrible memory of what should have been an amazing dinner.
My wife and I celebrated our 28th anniversary dinner at Bistro du Midi and is was EXCELLENT at every level. The food was exquisite, the wait staff attentive and the ambiance sophisticated. We will defintely come back!
We were given a lovely window in the corner on the first floor, which had a wonderful view down Boylston St and over the park.
I wasn't thrilled with my steak but mostly b/c I'm used to a much leaner cut, but the Gratin Dauphinois were amazing (as usual), and everyone else absolutely loved their meals (the Sea Bass was a huge hit).
The salty caramel ice cream accompanying one of the desserts was also very tasty.
food was very good...waiter a little inattentive...but all in all a lovely experience...can't beat the view from the window
We were celebrating a host of birthdays and an anniversary with our daughters (one of whom was born on Bastille Day!) and this was the perfect place. Excellent, relaxed service; very good food (both new dishes and new takes on old ones (roasted chicken with ricotta and lemon stuffed under the skin!); a very nice wine list. We tried for a 7:30 reservation on a Saturday night but had to settle for 6:30, and were glad we did because it was quieter and less harried..
Would definitely go back again!
Unfortunately the evening started on the wrong foot when rather than being seated in the main dining room we were seated in an anteroom off the main. This might have provided a bit of welcomed privacy except for the fact that our table was adjacent to a
VERY loud private party. The whole ambiance of the night was down hill from there. The waiter was knowledgeable but too assertive, bordering on aggressive. The food was good but not outstanding and not so good that it made up for the other negatives. All in all this turned out to be a major disappointment. We shall not be back.
This is a wonderful restaurant. Dining there was a memorable experience for us all.
We had a fabulous dinner here last Sunday night - I'd requested a quiet table because one member of my party is hard of hearing and the staff could not have been more accommodating. They put us in our own private alcove and it was simply perfect. The foot was delicious and the staff friendly and helpful. This restaurant is one of my favorite places to eat in Boston and yet again, I had a delightful experience.
Very nice experience. Wine list very extensive with prices well suited for expense account dining. Menu was imaginative, portions generous, well executed and fun. We were celebrating some birthdays and the staff responded nicely.
We had an outstanding meal! Both the food and the service were remarkable. Our waiter was very knowledgable and friendly. The location is excellent and I would definitely return.
Nice French menu with creative and flavourful items. Pork chop was moist and tasty with a smoked apple flavour. Cod was delicious. Chocolate cake with salted Carmel ice cream was outstanding. Waitstaff seemed busy and tables should provide more privacy. You are almost rubbing elbows with the table next to you. Waitstaff can't get between the tables to serve or clear so you are looking over your shoulder often. Great food but some improvements should be made to table locations.
Lovely restaurant. Great food. The view was amazing. Will stop by again.
Had a great romantic dinner with yummy cocktails and an excellent beet salad. The ambiance was perfect for a cozy dinner for two-I'd definitely go back again.
Authentic south of France food in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The chocolate souffle desert was exquisite.
We had a lovely birthday celebration here overlooking the park.
Perfect service and food.
I highly recommend.
Food and service are always excellent: One of our favorite restaurants. Gets quite noisy when the restaurant is crowded.
Great food, better than in Provence! Lamb tartar was absolutely great. Nice atmosphere and service. We'll have to come back and try all items on the menu.
The food was unbelievable. The dessert...to die for! The sommelier led us to the best wine we ever had and at a great price.
The food is fabulous! The taff were exceptionally helpful, friendly and efficient. Space is attractive, but the tables are fairly close and there are no sound dampening elements to the room, so although the initial elements of a romantic meal were there, the ambiance failed on that score. For a great dinner with friends, we'd go back in a heartbeat.
Thought the food and service was excellent. Nice location-will go back soon
For my entrée,I ordered breast of Duck which was very good. However, the appetizer turned out to be fried filled raviolis which were not very good and to me not very French. I had seen on the menu, goat cheese and paté and this is what I thought I was getting. I told the server I was unhappy and they took it off the bill, but I was looking for a very French meal, and this wasn't it. There used to be a French restaurant on Newbury street, Le Bouchée, was truly French and I am so sorry to see it has left.
If you are a fan of Provencal style French cooking then I strongly recommend Bistro du Midi. This isn't your ordinary bistro fare, but more an exploration of the wonderful flavors of Provence like seafood, herbs, and olives while incorporating elements of our local sea food. Having traveled throughout Provence, I can clearly say that Bistro du Midi does it right. Along with the excellent food, Bistro du Midi has attentive service, a very large portfolio of Southern French wines, beautiful views of Boston Common, and a bartender that knows how to make a proper Manhattan. The staff will let you dine and not try to rush you out the door. Plan on at least 2 hours to fully enjoy the experience at Bistro du Midi.
Overall, very nice. I was a little disappointed with my entree, but my companion's meal was excellent and the service and ambiance were superb. I'd go back, and recommend it to others.
Food was quite good. Our waiter was even better. Quite knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. We would go back.
Food was excellent. Service was spotty.
Service was excellent, good bistro food, the foie gras was to die for, and nice cheese plate. My husband said the mussels were fabulous and fresh. The dining room upstairs has a nice open and serene feel. Our table was a little small for all the service items, but it was a very pleasant dining experience overall.
My wife and I were pleasantly surprised - the food was excellent, the service was very good (not quite European, but we didn't want that, having to go to a theater play after dinner). The location by Boston Common is perfect. The spacing of tables was adequate and the noise level reasonable despite no sound-absorbing elements.
Wonderful dining experience. Looking forward to next visit.
Great dining! Food was superb and noise level was not too bad this time.
Only con: The waiter thru out our leftovers that we had planned to take home.
Pro: However, the restaurant did provide each of us with a "doggie bag" to replace what was thrown out!
One of my favorite restaurants in this area. I visited it again recently. Wine list is one of the best in my opinion and the recommendation was very helpful as usual. Somewhat disappointed to find that they have only one bouillabaisse although I still find the remaining bouillabaisse excellent. I could not get souffle as I did not have enough time. I will do so next time. The only thing I would like to see improvement here is the size of table. I feel it is a bit small in most cases and the sense of more space would make me feel much more comfortable and relaxed. Businesswise, it might not be good, though.
This was my second visit to Bistro du Midi and I was a little worried going back wouldn't match up to the excellent first experience. I had nothing to worry about. We were a bit early and enjoyed drinks at the bar. They were a little late taking us upstairs but not too bad. Service was fantastic from the moment we were greeted upstairs. The server gave me honest opinions, which I really appreciate. I had the white asparagus soup for my first course and I have been thinking about it ever since. The presentation is lovely and it tastes even better. I had the duck for my entree and it is delicious. I've now had the chocolate souffle twice and see no reason to try another dessert. I will definitely be back.
Very well done fancy meal ... we had two tequila cocktails, fried articokes and beet salad which were excellent, and a black sea bass was a great entree, skin crisped perfectly. I recommend this to any cisitors to Downtown Boston.
This was our first time at this bistro and we loved it. From the beginning the service was spot on from reception to our wait staff. We had a cocktail at the bar before dinner and they did not rush us to our table. I had the monk fish and it was fresh and very tasty. My wife had the steak and it was also tasty and above all tender. We found a new place and we will return
Had a great meal here, will definitely go back. Started with octopus and mackerel crudo. Octopus was perfectly cooked and paired nicely with oranges. Not sure the crispy artichokes added anything except a little visual interest. Our waitress suggested we could split a half portion of the lobster tagliatelle as a mid-course and it was delicious. The lobster was incredibly sweet and the sauce was perfect accompaniment. We finished with monkfish and cod. The monkfish was good, a little on the heavy side but tasty. The cod was unbelievable. I never order cod but I'm so glad I did, it was absolutely the best part of the meal. Overall, this is a great spot, nice wine list and sitting outside facing the garden is a great plus. Will be back!
Outstanding food, service & ambience. I always go there when someone is visiting from out of town. I am never disappointed.
My wife and. Went there formour anniversary. Food was outstanding...marinated octopus, asparagus soup, duck breast and monkfish stood out as superb. The service was fun, attentive, and helpful. We had a great night and would go again in a second.
First visit and was impressed. Sitting outside on a warm evening didn't hurt. Anastasia was very helpful and pleasant. Souffle had a tad more taste of vanilla than Grand Marnier. Would definitely return. Could not comment on dining upstairs a we remained outside for the evening.
we had a great dinnereverything was as expected - we expected it to be greatthe wait staff was the equal to the wonderful foodmy highest recommendation
Food was fantastic and service was even better!
A very delicious and pleasantly low-key way to celebrate a wedding anniversary. The service was attentive without being overbearing, the food prepared with care and taste. The beans were cooked to perfection. Wine list has a good selection of half bottles. We were heartened to discover a truly classy eatery with a definite European feel in Boston.
