Excellent meal. Foie gras appetizer was great. Halibut with curry was excellent. Nice ambiance.
We tried fix menu for dine out Boston. Delicious food and very comfortable atmosphere.
We went here for Dine Out Boston. The food was absolutely delicious. We had mussels as an appetizer, steak as the entree and a matcha panna cotta for dessert. Everything was great and service was attentive.
Great dining experience
Staff was very welcoming, courteous, and accommodating. Food was amazing, and service was great. Would come back again!
Best surprise they have Chocolate SOUFFLÉ for dessert!
It’s the real deal!
It was great!!! We enjoy the food and atmosphere very much! Definitely worth the money. I am planing to take my mum there :)
We dined at Bistro du Midi during Dine-Out Boston week and our selections were from their special menu. My husband had the mussels which was a generous portion and wonderfully seasoned, while i had the spring salad, which was also very good. My entree, the cod, was perfectly cooked with a lovely accompaniments. My husband's steak was pretty basic and not a steak house quality cut. The desserts were divine!
Fabulous service, fabulous dinner and yummy ginger martini
Parsnip soup was unbelievable!
great french food. eclectic and extraordinary! cant wait to go back! so many choices of fabulous dishes that we already booked a table for next month..
My mother and I had dinner here during our trip to Boston. Overall the food was pretty good but the atmosphere of the restaurant made me feel very uncomfortable due to the proximity of other tables. This made us feel self conscious as we ate and we were hesitant with our conversations out of fear of people listening in and judging us.
Wonderful evening. Great service. The chef made a fantastic dish for the vegan guest in our group. Very accommodating with our requests for certain foods or changes due to dietary restrictions. Delicious meal, great evening.
We had the 7 course tasting menu with wine pairings. It was divine.
Always a treat to dine at this exquisite restaurant. One of the most beautiful dining rooms in Boston, with views of the Commons. The food is fantastic and they are very accommodating for food allergies. The souffles are a memorable and delicious way to end to the meal. Attentive service for an overall wonderful experience!
This was our first time at Bistro du Midi and it was fabulous. The food presentation was lovely and our halibut and duck were cooked to perfection. It may have been the best halibut I’ve ever had. Portions are the right size- we had appetizers, main with a shared side of roasted root vegetables and we shared a dessert and left full but not uncomfortable.
The service was also perfect. We were greeted warmly upon entry and again as we were escorted to the main dining room. Our waitress was friendly, attentive and our food came out at just the right intervals.
We eat out a lot and this experience stood out. We will return. In fact before we left, we were discussing our next visit.
Dining as it should be. Bistro du Midi never disappoints, and often exceeds expectations. The room is lovely, the service graceful and knowledgeable--superb elk was an unexpected special--and windows overlooking the Public Garden are entrancing and romantic. I particularly treasure the ability to converse--no din, no frenetic music, no dodgy acoustics. Just loveliness.
Great experience food was amazing , drinks were perfect and the portions were great for its price.
Service staff are welcoming from entrance to exit. The waiter provides elegant service. Food was quite good. Flexible seating choices with views of public garden available upon request. Old school Boston with French flare. Will return.
We went for my wife’s birthday. The restaurant was very attentive to this occasion and our server, Nabil, was incredibly gracious. In fact I would rate him is possibly the best server I have ever had. Food was great, atmosphere was great, service was over the top and we will definitely come back.
The food, atmosphere, the view of the Garden was a perfect date night!
The service was exceptional and the food was of high quality. The charcuterie selection was the best and the plating of the food was very appetizing. Enjoyed the ambiance and food and service. Nothing to complain about!
My wife and I celebrated her birthday. We started with cocktails and the bartenders were great. They made my wife a special martini cocktail (less acidic) and tasted great. Nice ambiance and setting near Boston Commons. Will go back again!
As usual, a phenomenal experience
Food and service exqusite!
Still my favorite Boston location for special occasion dining
Great foie gras and we get ours in France so we’re expecting the best. We both got it and find that the serving is very small compared to what we receive in France for the cost.
We love the chocolate soufflé and will share it next time as it’s too rich for one!!
Amaizng food l, service and atmosphere. Phenomenal experience.
The food and cocktails were delicious and the upstairs was the perfect setting to enjoy it all.
We have been here several times and returned for Valentines Day. The price fixe tasting menu was very good; however, it was also Ash Wednesday and the only fish option was Salmon, which my husband doesn’t care for. The Chef substituted a different fish for him, and it was spectacular. We appreciated the flexibility on such a busy night. That above and beyond gesture made a fantastic meal and great service even more memorable. We will definitely return.
Valentines dinner and a proposal. They had a tasting menu with wine pairings. Dinner was excellent but with most tasting menus one or two misses though it is strictly taste, nothing to do with ingredients or preparation. Overall a very romantic dinner together. After I proposed, they brought a complimentary champagne toast for us. Waitstaff was excellent and friendly and took time to explain items. My fiance has a dairy sensitivity and hazelnut allergy and they adjusted the menu for her or made alternative recommendations for the items she couldn't eat. Definitely recommend this restaurant.
We've been to Bistro du Midi several times and it is always excellent. The wine list is great and the chef's tasting with wine pairing exceptional. the plates were very generous for a tasting so we were stuffed but the food was fantastic so it was easy to indulge and enjoy every bite. The waiter was very knowledgeable about the wines and menu and very attentive. Would recommend for a date night.
Based on previous reviews & reputation I was excited to dine here.
I thought the room was nice with the fireplace and nice evening views of the public garden.
There was a cocktail party / function going on in private room but they left the doors open. So the quiet dining room was not so quiet as the group was not exactly quiet. Would have been easy to close the doors.
At a restaurant of this stature I would expect a manager to stop by table once to check in...did not happen & not sure one was in the dining room.
Drinks were good...
The appetizers were ok...my wife had squash soup & I had yellowtail. They did not meet our expectations.
Entrees ( Duck & Halibut ) were on a very hot plate but the food was not really hot. Duck was once again good but the level I expected and a little tough. Both lacked a little in flavor.
This is not an inexpensive restaurant & just did not really approach 5 star in any area.
oh well "c'est ce que c'est"
We came on the Saturday before Valentine's day and enjoyed an excellent dinner that ended by sharing a chocolate soufflé (highly recommended). We shared starters of tuna tartare (excellent) and fluke crudo (even better) and then my wife ordered sea bass for her main course and I got duck breast - both of which were excellent. We have been coming to Bistro du Midi since it was Bibas (and then Excelsior). It continues to be a superb restaurant and one of our favorite places to celebrate special occasions (and the Saturday before Valentine's Day)
Champagne cocktail was outstanding. Coffee and Pancakes were very yummy.
An excellent experience. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented. The service was superb. We had sautéed octopus appetizer, bouillabaisse, and halibut; chocolate mousse for dessert.
This is an *extremely* expensive place -- e.g. entrees in the 30s+. It cost us $170 + tip for the two of us: 4 drinks, appetizer, 2 entrees, dessert. But well worth it -- we'll come back.
The ambiance was superb, especially the quiet (different than many other restaurants). Only problem: the room was too warm.
Dining is supposed to be fun. Most of the time when people hear the phrase "French Restaurant" they cringe at the thought of which fork do they use or am I making too much noise sipping my wine. Bistro du Midi breaks that mold by having authentic Fresh cuisine in a truly enjoyable dining environment.
You will find everything that makes dining enjoyable here. The food is not only authentic, but it is outstanding! I had the lobster ravioli with just a hint of saffron that did not over power the dish. The staff are welcoming and incredibly friendly. They are more than kind at explaining (to those of us that do not speak French) what the terms on the menu mean and what the food is, so please don't be afraid to ask. Despite the somewhat imposing menu terminology, the staff made you feel at home and welcome. They are great at helping you pair wines to bring out the best in the food and do have an on staff sommelier for those of you who really know wines. The ambience is simply amazing and the restaurant is decorated to take you worlds away while looking out over the gardens.
There is a downstairs and upstairs to this restaurant, but word to the wise, if you bring a coat, check it before you go upstairs. It can get warm in the dining area upstairs.
I cannot compliment this restaurant enough on the wide variety of tastes in the food presented. All the dishes we enjoyed were well prepared and the presentation and taste were well thought out. If you want to try authentic French cuisine in an atmosphere where you actually enjoy eating it, please try Bistro du Midi. Many other French restaurants worldwide could learn from their friendly and welcoming approach.
The waiter was extremely attentive he even asked the chef to bake souffles ( which were delicious) for lunch and they arre only offered for dinner.
Thank you food was great!
Had a lovely brunch with my husband and mother in law. The dining room upstairs is very pretty and has a great view of the Boston Garden. Our server was attentive without being overbearing. We shared the 3 pastries of the day- blueberry muffin, croissant, and cinnamon bun- all were good. I had the veggie quiche which was very good, but the salad that came with it was slightly over salted. My husband had the Croque Madam, which he liked but thought was slightly salty as well. My mother in law loved her lemon ricotta pancakes. We enjoyed the tasty brunch cocktail of the day- prosecco with grapefruit bitters. All in all, we had a very nice brunch and would definitely come back.
Very fine and tasty food. The Champagne cocktail was really original yet delicate. The desserts are definitely among the best ones we ever had in the area, and we recommend the soufflés.
This table is on our favorite list.
