This was our first time and it was my husband's birthday and they remembered. When his dessert came, they had written happy birthday. The food and service was excellent especially for Vday. The chef is wonderful, the flavors were amazing and the beef filet was so tender and the portions were wonderful. Great food, atmosphere and service. We loved it!
I don't like to give a bad review but it wasn't that great. The service was wonderful, but our table was awful. We were next to waiter area so people were at our side getting water, bread, etc...and my view was to the kitchen door that when opened I saw a black barrel all night - waiters coming in and out. The company I was with was great, so it wasn't so bad but I didn't feel I was in a special place. The other customers at different tables that could see the entire room and out the windows probably had a different experience. The steak tartar was amazing. The gnocchi was nothing special, in fact I didn't finish it, very bitter and dry, disappointing. Not worth the money.
Upscale pre-theatre dining. Attentive service, nice menu. A little pricey for what it is. Moderate wine list. No complaints.
Everything is expertly prepared.
Wine list is impressive, but only a handful of bottles under $100. That said, our waiter was very knowledgeable and recommended a good replacement when they ran out of our first choice.
Be sure to order the dessert soufflé!
Everything was fabulous except the noise level. Every food item was spectacular, especially the duck breast and black truffle pappardelle. Oh, can't forget the chocolate torte. And the wine list was very impressive. The service was superb. It was, however, much too loud where we sat in the second floor dining room. The restaurant absolutely needs to add acoustic absorption panels on the ceiling.
Another of my Boston favourites. I was seated in the downstairs bar on this quiet February Monday evening, so a bit of the buzz was missing compared to the main room upstairs, although this room is quite stylish too. The food the staff couldn't have been more sympathetic & helpful, packaging food to eat later and so on. I hope to re-visit soon at a livelier time of year and in much better shape, but it was good to see the BdM again.
As always, fast, friendly and attentive service. Restaurant was uncharacteristically slow at lunch but pleasant as always. Varied and balanced menu is something I really appreciate.
Brunch is lovely - choice of upstairs or down, looking out at the Public Garden. Upstairs was noisy when full, but not so much that my companion and I couldn't hear each other. Very convenient for brunch prior to theater matinee.

Excellent food (had a delicious truffle soup, followed by a fresh and balanced Bouillabaise) and a very impressive, well selected international wine list. Very good service. Bread and olive oil were the only small disappointment. Desert (rasperry sorbet) was an exquisite finish !

Poor food, tasteless, very limited menu

The Bistro and the Main Dining room menus offer about 50 dishes to chose from between appetizers, main courses and desserts. The Mid Day Menu, available between 3 and 5, is more limited. We had a lovely dinner. The dining room is very nice, pretty views of The Garden, bustling and lively Saturday night atmosphere. Our server Nick was great. Very Nice Pinot from Oregon!

We were so pleased to have secured a table at Bistro du Midi but we ended up being sorely disappointed. The food was nicely presented but everything was so peppery! The sauce which accompanied both the duck and the ribeye was very hot and peppery and the fingerling potatoes had far too much ground pepper on them. Not everybody likes pepper on their food- leave it to the diner to add the seasoning. Also, disappointed with the service; we had ordered a glass of wine to enjoy with our entree but the server forgot about it and brought it just as I was putting the last piece of duck in my mouth and my husband was just about to finish his (very peppery) steak. On a positive note, the chocolate and framboise soufflé were divine. An extravagant meal we didn’t enjoy!

We arrived on time for our reservation, when the restaurant is pretty much empty. The reception people (both downstairs and upstairs, where the main dining room is) kept us waiting without even acknowledging that we were standing there. There were only two other tables when we sat down but our appetizers didn't arrive until 50 minutes after we sat down. Both my husband and I found the food quality truly poor for the high price and nowhere near the standard of other expensive restaurants. We ordered seafood dishes and we were just totally disappointed by all of them--the veggies were not fresh, the soup tasted like it came from a can (and you don't taste any of the ingredients in the description), the seafood either had no taste or was over cooked, lots of huge pieces of sands in the mussels, and the seafood stock was overly salty. If you are looking to spend money at a luxury restaurant, there are many more better ones in the Boston area--stay away from Bistro du Midi!

Bistro du Midi has a wonderful serene view of the Public Garden, and the atmosphere inside is also serene and always quiet enough for dinner conversations. The staff is, without exception, friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. The food is delicious. It is a treat whether one eats in the bar on the first floor or the dining room on the second.

This was the fourth time I had eaten at Cafe du Midi in the last 10 years. Maybe I made the mistake of ordering seafood on the Monday of a long weekend. But, the octopus appetizer was not fresh. The bouillabaisse was bad with little flavor and the seafood not fresh. The bread sticks brought out were stale. Very disappointed and not sure I will return.

This is a charming very pretty, well-located restaurant. We were there for a Sunday Brunch. The menu was very comprehensive and interesting. Each dish we had was well-prepared and reflective of the quality of the food. Service was excellent, quite professional but still friendly. Definitely worth enjoying a meal here. A bit expensive but overall a good value.

Noise level was extremely difficult.
Thank you for your review MarkR. I see that you enjoyed food and service but I'm sorry to read that the noise level has been high. Saturdays are quite busy, therefore with more guests in house, the volume tends to raise. I hope that you would try Bistro du Midi during the week, or for lunch, when you can much easily enjoy a conversation with your guests. My best - Federico

i live in the neighborhood so I go there at least once a week. The food and services is good and I liked it that is never too noisy even if the restaurant is full

Very expensive and very very expensive wine list starting at 100 and going way up. Duck very Good, cooked perfectly. My wife enjoyed her gnocchi et al very much. Order the chocolate souffle.

Our appetizers range from $15 to $26 and the main courses start at $26. Also, our Bistro menu, has many affordable salads, sandwiches and flatbreads. We have over 100 labels under $100 on our wine list and most of them are in the $40-$50-$60 range. Please, ask for me next time you come in: I would love to assist you with some good choices. I have been to bistro du midi many times now from early brunches to late afternoon happy hours - safe to say it’s one of my favorite restaurants in the city with consistently high quality food. Do not miss the staple dessert soufflé. Also, the flat breads are also great choices.

High praise for the ambiance, food and staff especially Drew. Our night was lovely and except for the 25 person party in the adjoining room, all was perfect...A bit noisy and probably should have asked to move! The tasting menu was wonderful but a lot to eat....Got to the point of tasting instead of finishing each coarse.....
