Looks a bit tired downstairs
As a Boston Proper resident, I dine at the restaurant very often. Typically everyone is very kind however, our last visit, with a spend of $800 on a dinner celebration, the lack of appreciation was inappropriate. Regardless of the amount spent, you would think a manger would appreciate a party coming in on a Monday night, provide a celebratory dessert not when you're about to leave, and/or provide a comp some sort.
Perfect spot for a pre-theatre dinner. Great value with decent wine-by-the glass choices. Order the souffle dessert you will not be disappointed.

We chose Midi because we were attending a performance at the Colonial Theatre and its proximity was helpful. We also wanted something elegant for our 25th anniversary date. It did not disappoint; the upstairs room, with its view of the Public Garden, was a nice setting for a special occasion. The service was crisp, aware of the time deadline for the theatre, with dishes arriving and departing efficiently. We chose small plates and they were excellent, especially the Chatham oysters and the tagliatelle. Attention to detail was obvious throughout, from the service to the food. The wine list was a plus too. We are returning during Dine Out Boston with our sons for a chance to explore the menu more fully! (Especially to try the chocolate souffle) Our only complaint was the presence of a large group halfway through the meal appearing between rooms, boisterously gathering near the door. Do the doors close and could they have stepped out of the dining area?

Wonderful food, ambience, and service as always.
Only complaint: they did away with valet parking, sending diners as the only option next door to the Four Seasons Hotel (at $37/2 hours!). So if you don't find street parking, figure on paying the price of another meal just to park.

The service was excellent and so was the food. The waiter was vertical knowledgeable about wine to pair with our lunch.

Girl at front desk was very detached. Service was very slow and food was mediocre. I do not plan on going there again.

Special visit for wife's birthday. Sunday brunch. Blown away by everything. I had oysters and mussels and they were as good as I've had in over 80 years. Mussels were HUGE and not just a few but a whole tureen and delicious. Wife had salad and pancakes also magnificent. Service was as good as it gets, not obtrusive but always there. Upstairs dining room maybe 70% full but quiet and friendly. Very comfortable - the entire experience. Even the drinks (prosecco and mimosas) were outstanding. Easy location to get to.

The food, the drinks, the service, the atmosphere — everything was amazing. We sat by the fire, they were attentive but not hovering, the food was a little pricier than I expected, but it was a wonderful meal with friends!

This was our first time and it was my husband's birthday and they remembered. When his dessert came, they had written happy birthday. The food and service was excellent especially for Vday. The chef is wonderful, the flavors were amazing and the beef filet was so tender and the portions were wonderful. Great food, atmosphere and service. We loved it!

I don't like to give a bad review but it wasn't that great. The service was wonderful, but our table was awful. We were next to waiter area so people were at our side getting water, bread, etc...and my view was to the kitchen door that when opened I saw a black barrel all night - waiters coming in and out. The company I was with was great, so it wasn't so bad but I didn't feel I was in a special place. The other customers at different tables that could see the entire room and out the windows probably had a different experience. The steak tartar was amazing. The gnocchi was nothing special, in fact I didn't finish it, very bitter and dry, disappointing. Not worth the money.

Upscale pre-theatre dining. Attentive service, nice menu. A little pricey for what it is. Moderate wine list. No complaints.

Our Dinner Bistro menu, served daily on the first floor, as well as our lunch menu offer a variety of options in a moderate price range. We have over twenty five dishes under $25 and seventeen under $20. Hopefully we will see you again. My best - Federico
Everything is expertly prepared.
Wine list is impressive, but only a handful of bottles under $100. That said, our waiter was very knowledgeable and recommended a good replacement when they ran out of our first choice.
Be sure to order the dessert soufflé!

Everything was fabulous except the noise level. Every food item was spectacular, especially the duck breast and black truffle pappardelle. Oh, can't forget the chocolate torte. And the wine list was very impressive. The service was superb. It was, however, much too loud where we sat in the second floor dining room. The restaurant absolutely needs to add acoustic absorption panels on the ceiling.

Another of my Boston favourites. I was seated in the downstairs bar on this quiet February Monday evening, so a bit of the buzz was missing compared to the main room upstairs, although this room is quite stylish too. The food the staff couldn't have been more sympathetic & helpful, packaging food to eat later and so on. I hope to re-visit soon at a livelier time of year and in much better shape, but it was good to see the BdM again.

If you will come back in the spring, our patio will be open and you will find a very lively Bistro, even on a Monday. As always, fast, friendly and attentive service. Restaurant was uncharacteristically slow at lunch but pleasant as always. Varied and balanced menu is something I really appreciate.

Brunch is lovely - choice of upstairs or down, looking out at the Public Garden. Upstairs was noisy when full, but not so much that my companion and I couldn't hear each other. Very convenient for brunch prior to theater matinee.

Excellent food (had a delicious truffle soup, followed by a fresh and balanced Bouillabaise) and a very impressive, well selected international wine list. Very good service. Bread and olive oil were the only small disappointment. Desert (rasperry sorbet) was an exquisite finish !

Poor food, tasteless, very limited menu

The Bistro and the Main Dining room menus offer about 50 dishes to chose from between appetizers, main courses and desserts. The Mid Day Menu, available between 3 and 5, is more limited.
