About

This restaurant is permanently closed.

Bistro D'oc is a casual bistro-style restaurant that specializes in French cuisine. The restaurant's focus is on dishes from the Languedoc region of France. The dining room's interior is warm and cozy with chandeliers, dim lighting and candles on each table. The walls are adorned with bright colors and photos and artwork of France. Bistro D'oc is a great place to enjoy an elevated meal in a relaxed setting with friends and family.

Begin the meal with an appetizer like onion soup gratinee, snails in the shell, duck foie gras mousse, poached egg with smoked salmon or the signature Bistro D'oc duck liver pepper pate. Choose from a variety of seafood, meat and poultry dishes for the main course. Options include grilled shrimp, salmon and scallops on mesclun lettuce, seafood risotto, braised veal Languedoc and crispy Moulard duck confit on sautéed potatoes.

If the interior appearance were upgraded the place would do much better. They need to get rid of the dead plants by the winter and figure out the tables, seating , and HVAC. Food was good, but the appearance was lacking

Bistro D'Oc used to be an authentic French restaurant serving bistro classics and specialities from the south of France like cassoulet. But the restaurant must now be under new management as the menu has radically changed! There are a sprinkling of French dishes, but most of the menu now reads more like a Thai restaurant. That being said, the food I ordered was still good. But the Bistro has lost its charm and attraction for me now that it is no longer a true French restaurant!

The wine I requested was unavailable. The broil was slices of beef drowning in sauce. The Fritas, which used to be exemplary and crunchy on the outside, we're just regular fries. The profiteroles which used to have lovely marscapone just had regular vanilla ice cream inside. Really gone downhill from last visit. The server was very nice though.

I think this place is really adorable. Simple good food, it isn't a flashy "American" style place, but if you like real French food I highly recommend.

This is a great departure from the chain restaurants - this is an authentic, one of a kind restaurant, we learned it is owned by a chef from southern france and the menu reflects both standard items and items that one would find in a Provence restaurant but not typically here in the US. Every time we go here, we feel we are in a bistro in the south of france.

Having a giant dry erase board with specials brought to the table and a wedge for under the table as we sat down didn't make for the best first impression. The food was fine but nothing special. We were waited on my two different servers and both were execellent - attentive and responsive.

We have been regulars at this restaurant for many years and were very disappointed in the quality of the food. My wife sent her first order back and the second one wasn't much better. Mine was OK. Has the chef changed?

Bistro d'Oc is across the street from Ford's Theater. Most of the restaurant choices around there are chain restaurants, or else they serve mediocre food. Bistro d'Oc is a standout: high-quality French bistro food, served in a quiet bistro atmosphere. Highly recommended, especially for the pre-theater menu that is servied from 5:30pm to 7pm every day. It's a great choice even if you are headed to Gallery Place for a play or Verizon Center event. It's an oasis away from the tourist masses.

simple and informal, but very nice French bistro food at reasonable prices. I particularly like that (in general) it is quiet enough that you can hear your friends!

As this was pre-theatre time period, the restaurant was very busy and the service was a little slow. The food was good french food. Close to Ford's Theatre and Landmark E street.

Wonderfull food across from the Ford They accommodate well for the show. I would caution about wines by the glass. We had two glasses. Both were stale. Maybe opened for lunch. I ordered a Pinot that I knew. They brought a merlot.

Nice option for a pre-theater dinner for Fords, Warner and National theaters. Reasonably priced menu, nice wine list and cozy atmosphere. Its a French bistro, so expect lots of butter and well prepared, rich entrees.
Friendly, helpful staff.

My husband and I went to Bistro prior to event. He had lamb and thought it was adequate. I had Thai basil chicken. I left 3/4of it. The chicken was dark meat, it was bland in spice and the rice was overcooked. We both ordered ice tea which was served warm with a couple ice cubes. We had to order a cup of ice when we could get the waitresses attention. We were out of tea by the time dinner was served. When server brought the warm pitcher torl refill...again zero ice. Again we had to flag the waitress to get a cup of ice. A twenty one percent tip was added to the bill. I would never return.

We were booked for 5:00pm and an 8:45 Filmfest DC movies and needed a place to dine. Bistro d'OC is just around the corner on 10th between E and F and is just across from the Ford's Theater. The food is good and it is quiet particularly in the rear of the restaurant. A nice place to bring friends for conversation over a good meal.

The food, ambiance, warmth of the owner .. all contribute to a lovely oasis in the midst of tourist tchotchke shops. The butternut squash soup w/ a bit of goat cheese is comforting. The wine selections excellent. And most of all, it's such a lovely place to dine .. pre- or post-theatre (at Ford's or the Warner or National) or just after a day of being a tourist or just because you want excellent food in a place that feels comforting.

This is a great restaurant. Food is very good, with reasonable prices and no pretentious stuff. Just classic French bistro food with a touch of modern flare. Highly recommended. I've eaten here about 5 times in the past 2 years.

although we nearly ran into the dinner hour. Thanks ever so for your hospitality.

I had the poached salmon that came with plain vegetables--boiled potatoes, carrots, string beans. I don't know how they do it, but even these homely vegetables were delicious, as was the salmon which was moist. My friend had the tagliatelli and said it was very good. I don't recall having a bad meal at Bistro d'Oc.

I like the pre-fix menu. Starter, Entree, Desert for $25.00 is a good value. Also the location is great if you are going to a play at Fords Theater. They are quite efficient in getting your food on the table. And they have been good about giving us separate checks.

My wife and I had an early dinner prior to the theater.
I had the French onion soup which was good but not exceptional. My wife had the squash soup that she really liked
My main was the Boeuf Braise Au Vin Du Languedoc which was excellent.

The wine was very good. The service was attentive but not intrusive. I would recommend the restaurant

We took a coworker here for his birthday. The bread brought to the table was delicious. Two of us ordered the eggs benedict, which were very good. Two of us ordered the creamy pasta dish, which was also very good. One of us ordered the vegetarian platter which consisted of steamed unseasoned vegetables. Very disappointing.

I love this restaurant that is a Washington institution.. I am thrilled that it is surviving the major changes on 10th Street next to and above it. We dined before going to Ford's Theater, always a pleasure to eat there. I love the soups and pates. The pre theater menu is a great deal

Very nice French provincial food - unique to the city as far as I know. We ate here before the theatre. They had a pre-theatre selection that was fast, very good, and quite enjoyable. The atmosphere was also quite French and had terrific ambiance.

Bistro d'Oc has been our 'go to' location when we head to Fords Theatre, just across the street. As a Bistro, it has a limited menu, and I guess we're just getting a little bit fatigued on the menu they have. It would be great if the Bistro could switch up their menu a bit more. In addition, increasingly it seems the specials aren't much in the way of real French cuisine...it's now becoming Asian fusion, or something. In any event, I think next time we are headed to Ford's, we'll probably look elsewhere just to change things up. Service was - as usual - quite attentive. Wine selection and pricing reasonable.

Bistro d'Oc still has a good French menu. We'd not eaten there in almost two years and it appears to have changed hands since our last dining experience. As we recall the menu was more extensive and the staff all French. Now the menu appears truncated and the staff all Asia. Service is generally good, the acoustics not bad, and it remains a worthy member of the DC dining scene.

The food was fabulous, the staff was attentive, and the prices were reasonable. The only thing lacking was the ambiance. Groups sit up front, where there is light and a better ambiance. Couples or singles are a in the back, which has the feel of a decorated basement. It is dark and dingy, i.e. not mysterious/romantic. The owner just needs to work on the back area, and they will be a gem of place.

We were looking for a place to have dinner before the theater. We choose Bistro D'oc for it's location. We were pleasantly surprised that such a great restaurant was located in such a tiny store front. But there it was. The Bistro has tow floors and several rooms that offer an at home feeling. Especially if your home has an eclectic collection of art. The service was great. The wait staff was friendly and attentive but not too overwhelming. The wine list was limited but fine. The food was great!

I've been eating at Bistro D'Oc for years, mostly lunches. It's a great option for a collegial business lunch, a quick bite pre-theater or a low key date. It's good, but not pretentious. The food is good, the wine is good, the atmosphere is good. No complaints here.
