Fantastic meal, and getting to talk to the Chef made it all the more aesthetic.
Bistro de la Gare is one of those neighborhood treasures that deserves to be recognized by Open Table. Everyone I take there enjoys themselves and comes away with positive things to say about the food and the friendly service.
The eggplant appetizer is a big hit with many of my guests. I love the lobster ravioli when they have it, and the menu is varied enough to appeal to nearly all tastes.
The service is always friendly and helpful, without hovering.
I especially like when I can dine outdoors for weekend brunches and dinners. It
is a lovely way to spend an evening.
The best authentic French cuisine prepared by a real French chef/owner who uses all quality ingredients and sauces. The food and service is top notch! We keep coming back!
Excellent mussels but bad quiche . Shrimp linguine Fair.
I love this Bistro, fabulous food and generous portions, interested staff and good ambience.
Marvelous! We will be back! Thank you for your incredible food and service.
Service was delightful. The ambiance was unbelievable. Imagine eating at a restaurant where you can hear your date talk? The food was divine. My only complaint is that the wine list is so high priced that I couldn't even consider a glass. Most of their by-the-glass wines are MORE expensive than their cocktails. Not cool.
I had the french onion soup and the linguini with clams. My fiancee had the trout and wild mushroom soup. The french onions as superb as always. But i tried the mushroom soup and I was in heaven we traded soups The trout was cooked to perfection. My linguini was a little to spicy taking away from the flavor of the clams. The first glass of wine I received by the glass tasted like it was an old bottle opened to long. i changed wines and the second glass was excellent. This is becoming one of our favorite places to dine during the week. So I won't be to hard on them for trying. It is a place to come back to and explore the flavors. I have never had the steak but thats next.
Cute, although slightly dated ambiance. Nice little tapenade with bread to start. French onion soup was watery and tasteless, and had very little cheese. Had to send it back. Eggplant "caviar" was ok but had an odd smoky flavor. My mom enjoyed it, but my sister and I weren't crazy about it. My lamb shank was not served on the shank at all (just shredded pieces on my puree), and not properly seasoned. Had to add too much salt after the fact. Mom and sister ordered the filet, and asked for it "pink", between medium rare and medium, and specified "not red". Meat came out very red. Sent it back and they took about 15 minutes to bring it back, by which time I had finished my meal. Also, asparagus and button mushrooms were cut up into tiny pieces, and oddly enough, the shallot was served whole. Only 3 red wines by the glass on the wine list, and the one French one was $17/glass. They are clearly trying to force people too buy a bottle, which we did. Server was very nice, but had too many tables plus the hostess stand to take care of, and couldn't take care of us properly. She also didn't seem very familiar with French food.
Nice location for a Valentines dinner. Without sauce, my steak was a little disappointing, but my date enjoyed her meal. Service was good and noise level was good.
We love going to Bistro de la Gare! Chef Bruno does an excellent job with the menu and food, and Fabienne always takes excellent care of us!
Excellent valentine Day experience
We went for Valentines Day. Everything was delicious and it is very cozy decor and ambiance. Have been there numerous times and have never been disappointed
We love the steak frites. And the owner recommended a lovely bottle of red wine. Perfect Sunday lunch.
We had a Sunday brunch birthday party, a group of ten people attending. Everyone enjoyed the French cuisine - a nice selection of main dishes and excellent desserts. The nice Euro background music still allowed everyone to converse easily, which was appreciated. Our waitress was charming. The service was well paced and we never felt rushed. Overall a consistent, favorite restaurant.
This was the worst experience ever . We waited for one hour and 15 min , just the get acknowledged by the waiter ; additionally , the wine never arrived . Even after we reminded to the waiter , he completely forgot about our order because he was overwhelmed by trying to serve a big party . Stay away from this place !!!!!
Parking was a nightmare because Thursdays are Farmers Market nights. Entering the restaurant we noticed a strong antiseptic smell, like that of PineSol. Only after we ordered from the regular menu did the waiter show us the special menu for that evening! Very odd. The food was very good and the moules marinaires were outstanding.
I keep giving this place another chance because it is a nice space, but the food is overpriced and not exceptional. The service the other night was super slow and inattentive. We got a shared first course and then waited 15 minutes for another appetizer. After our main course, the waitress boxed up what we wanted to take home and then left for 20 minutes before asking if we wanted coffee or dessert. Since we had already waited too long for everything, we declined and asked for the check which we got 15 minutes later. This was not a particularly full night. No excuse for the tardiness of everything. When you spend $50 -$75 per meal, one should expect a good meal and good service.
Classic French restaurant WTH price.to.match
Excellent food and service. This was our first time and deserves the title of neighborhood gem. Only issue is no easy parking
Excellent food - as good as a true Paris Bistro. Simple, fresh ingredients. Excellent service. Highly recommend.
A favorite among family and friends, close to home.
Fabulous food and the ambiance is lovely, perfect for a quiet dinner filled with intriguing conversation. A true hidden gem.
New Year’s Eve dinner was dissapointing as to the price for the food and value. Very chaotic service . Lovely ambiance tho
We went on NYE and they had a special, limited menu. They had no vegetarian entree available and the chef wouldn’t just make a plate of the vegetables, so I had salad for NYE dinner. Prettty disappointing. My husband had orange duck which was good. It’s 2018, there should be at least one vegetarian option (and there is on the regular menu). Server felt awful.
They were out of 3 of the choices we made. Unfortunately we made other choices, rather than just leaving, because I can’t remember ever being served a worse pasta dish. Something simple, which I could have whipped up at home - penne, artichoke, and shrimp - was inedible. The “steak” was grey, the duck not actually rare, just rubbery. What has happened to what used to be a simple, authentic French Bistro? And it was expensive too!! What an embarrassment. Never again-
We were looking for a restaurant on the Gold Line and were lucky to try Bistro de la Gare. Just a few steps from the South Pasadena station, this traditional French bistro combines friendly service and comfortably elegant ambiance with beautifully-prepared cuisine. We had sparkling water, two appetizers, shared dessert, after dinner tea, plus a bottle of wine with the salmon and ribeye entrees and our bill was under $200. Yes, we will be back, and we can't wait to try the Happy Hour wine bar!
Execellent food, charming and great service. Recommended to all our friends
Another lovely Christmas Eve was celebrated at Bistro de la Gare. Warm, cozy, great food and staff make for a special dining experience on any occasion.
Wonderful dining experience. Food and service and ambience were all top-notch. We'll be back!
This was similar to the bistros in France just outside of the hustle and bustle of Paris. The food was very fresh and the service was very attentive. Kelly, in particular, offered incredible service. There is a very warm and lively vibe here. It’s also situated in a quaint neighborhood that lends itself to a nice after-dinner stroll. Overall, it was très charmant!
This is a neighborhood gem. Our table was ready and our server was excellent. She knew the menu and answered all questions. The moules and frites were super delicious and done just right--perfect size, and the sauce/broth was outstanding with just slight hint of pepper flakes! Fries exactly as they should be--cut thin, crunchy outside and piping hot. One friend had the linguini with Manila clams and raved about the mixture of flavors. Have yet to be disappointed by this restaurant.
Food was excellent, nice atmosphere, good value for price. Staff was nice and friendly, but service was slow, and sometimes inattentive.
There are few good French restaurants in the LA area, and this is one of the very best. Bruno, the owner and chef is superb with attention to quality of ingredients.
It was the perfect choice for a special birthday. Friendly attentive service. We all got different appetizers and main courses and we all loved what we got. Authentic onion soup, mushroom cream, corn salad, steak frites, seabass, pasta, lamb, everything was delicious. Highly recommend. We'll be back!
We had one of the best brunches of my life here, and I’ve been around the world. Charming, authentic French bistro in a lovely neighborhood setting. Hidden gem.
WHAT A GEM! I can’t believe we haven’t found this spot till now. I would give 10 stars if I could. Our server Kelly was attentive and had a great candor. As for the food well I can’t remember the last time I cleared a plate, absolutely wonderful!
Fine food in a lovely restaurant isn't too much to ask for, is it. Bistro de la Gare fits the bill perfectly. We've been going there for years and always enjoy it.
As usual, I had a great experience! They really transport you to France with the cuisine, staff and ambiance. The food is outstanding and drinks are authentic!
This was our first time here. The food was excellent and the waitress Fabian amazing. We were a big group, celebrating a special birthday Felt in love with this place. Would highly recommend it for someone who loves French food. Will definitely be back. Thanks
