Food was excellent, nice atmosphere, good value for price. Staff was nice and friendly, but service was slow, and sometimes inattentive.

There are few good French restaurants in the LA area, and this is one of the very best. Bruno, the owner and chef is superb with attention to quality of ingredients.

It was the perfect choice for a special birthday. Friendly attentive service. We all got different appetizers and main courses and we all loved what we got. Authentic onion soup, mushroom cream, corn salad, steak frites, seabass, pasta, lamb, everything was delicious. Highly recommend. We'll be back!

We had one of the best brunches of my life here, and I’ve been around the world. Charming, authentic French bistro in a lovely neighborhood setting. Hidden gem.

WHAT A GEM! I can’t believe we haven’t found this spot till now. I would give 10 stars if I could. Our server Kelly was attentive and had a great candor. As for the food well I can’t remember the last time I cleared a plate, absolutely wonderful!

Fine food in a lovely restaurant isn't too much to ask for, is it. Bistro de la Gare fits the bill perfectly. We've been going there for years and always enjoy it.

The bottle of recommended wine was mediocre. The spread offered with the bread was bitter. We shared the arugula & goat cheese salad which was the best part of the meal. The duck breast was flavorless and overcooked. My friend had the mussels with frites. She said the mussels were Ok and the fries mediocre. The Apple Tartan dessert was OK but poorly presented on the plate.

We love this restaurant. Be aware, service very disorganized and kitchen is very slow. Hopefully one day they will get their act together. Food is worth the inconvenience.

A nice local spot for South Pasadena. A full bar, nice choices for wine. Generous portions that can be definitely shared ( the pâté/ terrine)
Although we were eating at the end of the night, a few things were no longer available, but the server was quick to suggest an alternative.
Out martinis were nice and generous.

The restaurant reserved just the kind of table we asked for, the service was great and the food was delicious. The waitress recommended a lovely wine to make us all happy with our
very diverse orders and all four of us had a lovely evening. The indoor/outdoor ambiance in the front room is lovely.

We used to go often, especially for the escargot or French onion soup. After a bad experience (tasteless escargot and no French bread), we stopped going for a long time. Decided to give them another try after reading quite a number favorable reviews. The escargot was better, but not as good as it always was before the bad experience. The flavor in the good days would make me swoon, and this time it was good but not swoon-worthy. Their other food is very good and the wine, too. Interesting menu with good variety. I miss the great escargot. Next time I will have the French onion soup.

After just having returned from France, dinner outside at Bistro de la Gare felt like a little slice of France very close to home. Food was excellent (hearts of palm salad, mushroom risotto), our server was so friendly and efficient, and it was a most enjoyable evening.

Had a 7 PM reservation for two, but we were seated at a table four four in the corner in the right hand room - the family room with young children and no tablecloths - not a very attractive location for a couple. The reason we were told was "to make sure you get great service." That didn't happen; our orders were taken OK and our server was friendly enough, but after that we seldom saw her. Bread and tapenade didn't arrive until much later in the meal, I had to get up to ask for our glasses of wine that we had asked to be served with our appetizers; our appetizer plates were still in front of us when our mains arrived; cocktail glasses were never cleared and so on. Food was hit and miss - mostly miss. The wine glasses had a detergent/bleach odor; the terrine was tasteless and wooden. The main dish of sea bream was quite good but oddly paired with cauliflower and had a bright orange sauce that had no taste whatsoever. Again, we had to get up and ask for our check. Overall it wasn't a very pleasant dining experience.

We love the neighborhood feel of this small bistro. It is a charming section of South Pasadena near the train station. In the winter it's warm and cozy and open and breezy on a warm summer night. We enjoy regular family meals here but since it's a favorite, my husband chose it for his birthday. It did not disappoint. The food was delicious as always. My filet was perfectly cooked. Bruno, the owner and gracious host sent a delicious creme brûlée and after dinner drinks to top off our celebration. We highly recommend Bistro de la Gare.

It was a bit pricey. It took a while for our waiter to come to take our order and a food runner brought our food over but our waiter never come back to check on our food till we asked for our check. My boneless lamb shank over a bed of mesh potato was too sweet. It was cook with fig and also meat from half of normal size lamb shank. :(

Bistro De La Gare is one of my favorite restaurants. I love French food! I grew up in France and I am so happy to have this gem close to my house! Food is fantastic. You can find some authentic French food. We had the filet and the fries, absolutely delicious.
I have also tried their mussels and duck confit. Yummm!!
Merci!
