What a great dining experience! My husband I shared the chicken liver mousse; he had the white asparagus soup and I had the mushroom soup; he had the ribeye steak with fries, and I opted for the heirloom tomato, burrata and arugula salad. We enjoyed the freshness and flavors of every dish, all made even more enjoyable with glasses of a cabernet and merlot. Service was attentive, even doting. Great value, too. Deserves a place on our list of favorite restaurants.
not sure why for a great neighborhood restuarant we had not been there in over a year but great staff great food and great on street parking .. clearly a neighborhood place.... lots of people walking by with their dogs... it was great!!!!!
Our favorite restaurant, but it really does need more servers.
Brunch at Bistro de la Gare is always a treat. My friends ordered the Eggs Florentine
and there wasn't a scrap of food left on either of their plates. To show the
diversity of the menu, I had mussels which are always delicious.
We told the server that we wanted a quiet place so we could talk and they found a great table for us.
Out of town guests love Bistro de la Gare-and especially for its Sunday brunch.
No one ever goes away hungry, or without saying what a great time they have had.
A lovely brunch; food superb.
Excellent Service. We were in a rush so only soup and a glass of wine. French onion was rich but light - perhaps not beef?
Wonderful restaurant. Amazing food and drinks. Service was a bit slow but we weren't in a rush so I didnt mind too much. Well worth the money. Will definitely be back.
One of our favorite spots for a great dinner, our daughter loves there penne with red sauce with french fries.
We love to treat ourselves to an experience at this fantastic bistro! Very cozy & inviting, like stepping into someone’s home. And the food is amazing! ♥️
Menu was limited and they had ran out of some items. The waitress who usually serves us was not as nice and accommodating as previously.
Having dined at BDLG for several "special event" days (e.g., New Year's Eve, Valentine's Day), we have to say that -- at this time -- it is probably best to dine there instead on ordinary days. At special events/holidays, they don't seem to yet appreciate that they need to up their staff presence so that service at the tables does not suffer from the incresed level of attendance. However, given the wisdom the owner/chef shows in general, we expect that BDLG will likely recognize that customer service levels are just as important as food quality at BDLG's price point, and will probably will react to the situation with wisdom. For now, we may restrict our dining to ordinary times and avoid the special days, but we hope to resume dining on both in the near future. Regardless, the menu and the cuisine remain top notch. One other note: the Wine List, while perhaps properly emphasizing French offerings, could definitely benefit from a greater number of California offerings.
Cudos for not pushing only Valentine menu on the weekend.
We had a seabass and pasta for main course and french onion soup and scallops crudo for appetizers.
All food was great, only hope that scallops would have more taste.
Valentine's Day disaster! There was a back up in reservations as soon as we arrived and it went down from there. Poor service.
Wedding anniversary on valentines night is always a bit of a conveyor however this was more so. Tables were too close together and every course was rushed including bringing check with the desert.
Food was perfect. The scallops appetizer was outstanding. Service a little slow, but you had a packed restaurant.
It was Valentine's night preset menu. Food was tasty especially the creamy mushrooms soup and the dessert. The restaurant is a bit tight in seating but it was fine. The price for the preset dinner of $80 per person is a bit expensive, but it was on the Valentine's Day!
We went early on a Wednesday night. It was quiet, perhaps a third full which we prefer. Food was very good, service was a bit slow, but we were not in a hurry. Overall, a definite go back.
Had reservations for 2/9/20 at noon for a birthday luncheon for my mom. We arrived on time and were ignored for 20 minutes. Toilet was stopped up and nearly overflowing. Tried to cancel on OpenTable app and make a last minute reservation elsewhere. App wouldn’t allow a “double booking”. Tried to call the Bistro several times to cancel, but line was busy. Finally got through to cancel. A couple of groups came in after us and left as well. Really embarrassing and highly disappointing experience.
Since creme brulee is on the menu, would creme brulee au foie de canard ever be considered? Also, confit de canard or ris de veau?
I thoroughly enjoyed the Lobster Thermidor special on Saturday night. It was the first time I've had the dish and the Chef did a fantastic job! As always a great evening at La Gare.
It took awhile to get our drink order but after that the service was fine
Food was delicious
A very good dining experience. Our server, Lorena, was excellent; very attentive and helpful. The food was delicious. This was our first time dining here so we didn't know what to expect. It is a pretty small restaurant so we were quite close to our fellow diners. That was ok for the most part.
The food was really good, but service was a little slow as it looked like there was only one waitstaff for the whole restaurant the night we went.
Our favorite neighborhood restaurant!
Very good French bistro
Disappointed. I ordered the trout, the cooked fillet did not look appetizing at all and presentation on the plate did not make up for it. Taste was not great...and I like trout. The filet (medium well) was overcooked and tougher to cut than I would expect for medium well. Service and ambiance great but I'd prefer better food, not sure I will return soon.
My first time there The food and atmosphere were excellent! We got our food within the proper timeframe, but I would have preferred follow up service to be quicker (asking about dessert and bringing our check, particularly since it was not busy.) But everyone was extremely friendly and welcoming, and the chef came out and talked with every table. I loved this place and can’t wait to go back.
From the moment you walk in, you are transported to a lovely bistro in Paris. We were greeted by a smiling hostess who led us to our table and chatted with us for a few minutes. My husband and I started off with a delicious chicken liver mousse that was rich and creamy. We both ordered the entrecote was sufficiently marbled, but a bit fatty around the edges. It was good nonetheless. All in all, the restaurant was warm, welcoming and will definitely return.
The food and service were excellent. This was our first time here and we will definitely come back.
Bistro de la Gare proposes very good traditional French dishes. This is simple but definitely very well prepared from fresh product of quality. Amongst the different dishes Filet Mignon and Confit de Canard are delicious.
A very good address in South Pasadena. We will definitely go back.
The two women split the terraine as an appetizer both had thelinguine with clam sauce. They loved both. He thought the linguine bolognese the best he has ever had (to the consternation of his wife). I had an average onion soup and a special - mushroom risotto. Very good. The rose was also excellent.
Overall, a great dinner and great service but you pay for what you get.
Best restaurant in town. Our absolute favorite. All around fantastic, food, service, ambience and cost..
Delicious prix fixe for Christmas Eve. Service was excellent and menu choices were great and well prepared.
Please disregard the mindless few who posted unfavorable ratings for this gem. The mussels alone were brilliant, as an entree yet! But there was so much more.
We had an early reservation, so the place wasn't too full. This place is a local for us, and we've been there several times. It's a very consistent restaurant. It's friendly; personable, even. The food is bistro-based and very good. It has a good wine list. In the evening, the main room, especially around the windows that look out to the street, can be pretty romantic. A crowd can dispel the magic at times, but even then, it's a great place to relax with your significant other and enjoy a really good meal.
Bistro de la Gare is always a favorite of me and friends who visit. Service is wonderful, and
it is a good place to share conversation and good time. Food is always very good to excellent. My
friends always want me to take them to Bistro every time they come-and same for friends
from out of town. This-even from places like New York, and downtown LA where there are good restaurants available/. It is always welcoming and I also like brunch on Sundays.
The Bistro is always our first choice when we’re in Pasadena. The food is perfectly prepared and delicious. Service is attentive and helpful. The ambience is warm, elegant, yet relaxed.
The restaurant staff makes you feel at home from the moment you walk in. Food and service is always great.
We've been to Bistro de la Gare several times, since for us it's a local spot. My wife has particularly liked it for the food and ambiance. The last time we went, just a few days ago, I joined her enthusiasm. It's quiet, romantic, with good food and drinks, good service and is mostly an understated restaurant in a French bistro style. No complaints; lots of reasons to recommend it.
