Discover fresh, authentic French American cuisine in the heart of Manhattan's scenic Upper West Side at Bistro Citron. This unique eatery features a variety of classic American dishes with French flourishes as well as traditional French selections, including cassoulets, bouef bourgignon, escargot, duck confit and open-face grilled tartine sandwiches. Bistro Citron's diverse menu also includes a raw bar, as well as mussels and shrimp cocktails.
Their mussel dishes are so popular, Bistro Citron created a Mussels Monday special that features seven different options all of which are accompanied with pomme frites, fresh bread and wine. The restaurant is open for brunch, lunch and dinner.
Lively environment, full on a Saturday night, able to have conversations, food was enjoyable and the menu had good variety while staying rooted in France. The steak of steak frites was perhaps a bit basic, and the skate a bit salty, but our party of 9 was quite happy with their food overall.
The waiter was grouchy, too many kids and mediocre food
Once again we returned to Bistro Citron. We are regulars dining at least once a week. Scott the Manager is as gracious and welcoming as ever. There is always a smile on his face and some nice words of greetings. The chef Jerry is a fine one indeed. His choices of dishes and the manner in which they are prepared is terrific. I love the onion soup, and he has it down to a science. Tasty, not salty and very flavorful. I am very fond of the Filet of Sole. It is an excellent preparation and is a very ample portion. There are some new additions to the menu and we have been trying them out. We have recommended Bistro Citron to our neighbors on the UWS as well as those who when they come to NYC are looking for a top notch place to eat. We look forward to returning soon.
wonderful - everything - great food, service, wines!!!!
Good authentic French food on the upper west side, fairly priced, with a pleasant ambiance and what appeared to be a significant French population of diners. Must be a good sign !
Food was fifty fifty.
Atmosphere is okay but would be better without cranking up the music when 90% of customers were over age 50.
We ordered the duck confit pate as appetizers. It was okay, not yummy.
Entrees: the porkchop milanaise was outstanding.
The roast chicken was bland as could be. The strignbeans were undercooked, the sauce had no flavor, the skin wasn't crisp. I had to salt the chicken and fries three times.
Great food, portions are good. Quiet conversational spot
This is a neighborhood find. Always reliable and always hits the spot!
Food was mediocre and very pricey for what was presented. Poor choice if wine.
Disappointing, slow service, do not even serve bread!
Place was empty - I should have known. ....
always a pleasure, consistently good food and pleasant atmosphere.
Love sitting in an outdoor cafe in Manhattan on a beautiful day. Food is consistent and tasty.
We dine at Bistro Citron frequently. That evening, the restaurant appeared to be under-staffed with servers, and it adversely affected the meal: the paillard of chicken, which my wife orders regularly was cold (it had sat in the kitchen for a while), the staff needed to be reminded about the wine we ordered. Service was friendly, but they needed a few more hands to provide the service they usually provide.
The fish dish was really quite good.
Disappointing experience. The service was terrible. Would not return or recommend.
felt like we were visiting France, in a positive way
our waiteess, Stefanie, was informative and polite. the even stopped at our table to make sure we had everything wanted
food was and delicious and special dessert of crepes with blueberry glaze an added delight
A varied menu and good service. Fabulous onion soup. The fries are also quite good.
We had a nice brunch on a Sunday recently at the restaurant. It has a lovely Parisian bistro ambiance without any pretension. The food was good as was the service. The other nice thing about it is the peace and quiet. This is a hidden place and is so peaceful. Highly recommend if you want quiet on the city over lunch.
Too bad this local restaurant where we have dropped a lot of money is so meh plus found a waterbug near our table
My wife and I went for the first time for a date night on a Wednesday and there was basically no one there at 6:00! It was great! We got the shared chicken, green beans, and fries, which came out with portioned plates for each of us. It was fantastic! Then we got dessert, which was the real reason we came, and that was excellent! The cinnamon ice cream is exceptional, especially on top of the apple tart. The service was good. A little pricey, but it was a great experience.
The place, due to its location, has gotten expensive for ok food and spotty service. A bit disorganized: takes a while to have the order taken and a longer period to receive the food.
After making it totally clear that our group included two vegetarian diners, the very inexperienced waiter recommended and served a dish that included bacon as a core ingredient....and then struggled come up with alternative suggestion....and included the dish on the bill. We have eaten here many times before, but will not be doing so again any time soon.
We returned to Bistro Citron for what turned out to be a delightful dinner. The General Manager Scott Brown was his effusive self. He is a master at making the customer feel comfortable and at home. He has charm, wit and an excellent sense of humor. The meal was delicious. Everything we ordered was nicely prepared and presented in an elegant style. Having eaten at this restaurant many times over the years it has been open, we are glad to report that it is better than ever. The waiters and waitresses are polite, attentive and very professional. The attending busboys are excellent too. They know just how to be there but not obtrusive. This all helps to make a meal successful. We plan to recommend the restaurant to our many friend and to return ASAP.
Very good service, friendly. We had a leisurely lunch and the food was delicious. We were offered a taste of the wine we wanted, as well as the soup of the day. Overall, a very nice experience.
On a June evening we had a light dinner before going to the Delacorte Theatre, which is a short walk from Bistro Citron. We sat in the very front of the restaurant, with the floor-to ceiling windows open. It felt like being outside but with extra height and comfort. The food selections were appealing, the service was timely. It was easy to order, eat, and pay the check in time to walk into Central Park to the theatre. We split two entrees and and two desserts! All menu selections are appealing.
This is a great food. Classic bistro faire and really nice environment too!
Poor service. After taking our order, we were basically ignored. No one ever came over to ask about the food or if we wanted another drink. After complaining about the service, the excuse was that two new people started that day. Well, shouldn't the manager be picking up the slack and keep things moving in the right direction? The manger never came over to personally apologize to our group or offer to comp a drink or some other gesture of goodwill. He basically ignored the complaint about service and chose not to address it directly, only through an intermediary among the wait staff. Food was good, but overshadowed by the poor service. Refects poorly on Reststar, whose restaurants our family regularly frequents.
Best neighborhood bistro. Family come in from Connecticut to join me here for dinner. Always the first choice!
We've been many times and always enjoy returning. They always treat us very well.
1st time at Bistro Citron - the Mussels Pernod, Filet of Sole, Sauteed Pork Tender & Chocolate Lava Cake will bring us back.
I love this restaurant. Great food all the time
my favorite haunt on the UWS
Patricio, the host,is charming and gracious
I always enjoy my meals
Our host, Patricio is lovely and has a wonderful chef
I go often and consider it my Upper WestSide go to
Bistro Citron is one of my very favorite go-to neighborhood places. The food is consistently well-prepared, with a small but good selection of wines. I've always found the service to be friendly and unobtrusive.
The restaurant itself is full of charm and very clean. The food and ambiance was great for dinner. Only complaint was our waitress... but she seemed to be new there. Overall we loved it and will go back!
The nearest French bistro to our apartment with a very congenial maitre d' and wait staff. Food never disappoints - their hamburger maison is a delight. Steak or moules frites very good along with specials each day. Desserts include crépes suzette, ile flottante, tarte au pommes among others.
Always a great experience. The food is delicious, the service is great. We're so happy to have it in the neighborhood.
all the benefits and allure of french bistro food, first time here, not the last, charming , with good service, good food and ambience!!!
And they care enough to ensure your time with them. This time it was lunch. It is amazing how few places in NYC can produce a perfect omelette. Bistro Citron are exactly that, perfect. But be careful. If you think you can each just one of their french fries, regardless of your discipline, you are mistaken. At my last dinner there, I had mussels so sweet, I almost ordered a second batch. But I settled for stealing a few of my guests. This is a keeper.
Great place for kids! Food is good too, although I enjoyed their dinner over brunch.
