This seems a genuine bistro with some French staff, but all are reasonably attentive. The place is attractive if a bit cramped. The bread service offers a bit of warm ficelle and small tubs of butter and pate. The food is excellent bistro fare as you might get in France with prices you have come to expect in NYC: 1 salad, 2 glasses of wine, 3 entrees, 1 dessert, 2 coffees (all quite good): $195.00 including tip.
I have eaten at Cassis many times. Particularly enjoy it in good weather when I can sit outside.
The food is always excellent or near excellent. I like the ambience and if it isn't very crowded, the noise level is tolerable. The service is always lacking, not terrible, but never great. I asked for coffee and it never came. My friend wanted skim milk for her coffee and they had only whole milk, which is very unusual for NYC. And the service was slow and not attentive. If the service was better, It would really be an excellent restaurant.
Favorite restaurant in Manhattan. Finest French food in U.S. Waiting staff are the best and extremely helpful in recommending which wine goes with each course. Duck breast was prepared perfectly and the sauce was excellent. Try the specials. You will not be disappointed.
Almost everything was perfectly cooked and delicious. The one exception -- snails as an appetizer -- had little grainy black things in it -- maybe burnt garlic or burnt parsley?? Otherwise the food and wine were very good, though wine by the glass seems very pricey.
I love Paris and France - dining at Cassis transported me there for a few hours. The service was capable and efficient, and the food was really quite excellent for a "neighborhood" restaurant. The decor is very authentic French bistro style and casual. We were there relatively late (9:30p on a Thursday night) and the restaurant was not crowded, so it was very easy to have a conversation which I liked.
The pricing is reasonable (for New York). If you just order an entree you'll have a great meal pretty inexpensively, but with appetizers and a two drinks each you'll end up paying close to $200 (including tip) for two. That's pretty standard, but may shock some folks.
I live 3 blocks from Cassis, so it will definitely be on my list of regular restaurants for casual dining.
Food was terrific: highly recommend the duck l'orange. The was fine -- a little rushed; water glass remained empty; no offer of a second glass of wine; no offer of dessert or coffee. The pate served with the bread is a nice touch. My biggest complaint was the maitre d', Manny, a part owner in restaurant. We had a reservation for four and a person cancelled at the last minute. We apologized, Manny gave us a table adjacent to the service area. I asked for a different table, he replied rather snarkily that that was reserved for a party of four (both tables were four tops but ours was adjacent to service area). The other table sat vacant for an hour and then he sat three people at the other table. I understand that we changed our reservation, but he could have been much more gracious "I'm so very sorry, but that specific table was reserved by another party..." would have been nice. There are too many other great restaurants in the area to waste time with someone with a bad attitude. Head to Nice Matin instead.
I find Bistro Cassis to have become a very average restaurant. Over the past 8 years that I have been coming here I have notices a slow but gradual decline over the past few years, especially in regard to service. The staff, the ownership, the food all seem to be very tired. Items on the menu are frequently not available, little changes in terms of menu items, the food is average and lacks any uniqueness and the service has really declined. On a consistent basis I notice that virtually the entire staff has become disinterested and things traditionally done by the waiter staff is now left to the bus boys. Still a nice ambiance but little else.
Girls night out - the fried calamari was very good. I had the pork chop with salad and the meat itself was very dry. I didn’t eat much of the chop but the salad was delicious. Took home the leftover chop and put that in another salad. All in all, got two meals so it didn’t turn out badly after all.
Terrific dinner from start to finish. Checks all the successful bistro boxes--good choice of traditional bistro fare, French ambiance, delicious food served quickly and thankfully hot from the kitchen.
Easy to see why it is so very popular--glad we reserved!
Good food, nice service. A bit crowded... we had folks standing behind us waiting to be seated which detracted from the dining experience a bit. I could handle that in a diner or cafe, but not while trying to enjoy my dinner. All aside though, we would return, but when it is not prime time unless management comes up with a better traffic plan for guests who are waiting.
My ladyfriend and I had visited Paris last fall (2016). Dining here transported us back there, flooding us with good memories. Our server was quite efficient and friendly, and the fact that he originally hailed from Corsica brought even more ambiance to our experience.
Excellent as Usual. Great French Bistro food. Always have had an excellent meal there, and this time was no exception. Food, service and Ambiance were outstanding. Try the Sole Meuniere, The Steak Frites and the Steak Au Pouvre. And leave room for the Profiterole.
Manny the manager always remembers us and that is always appreciated.

This has been a tradition for us as we have spent time in and out of NYC for about 15 years. It is just a lovely neighborhood bistro with regulars, visitors, and a great welcoming staff, good French bistro menu and lovely wine offerings. It is not fancy- just perfect. We eat in places that are far more expensive and enjoy them- but we always fit in a visit to Cassis for the welcome back- it does have the feel of a French neighborhood bistro and I am delighted that they have never lost that
Bistro Cassis provided a uniquely different and cozy restaurant for my friend and I to get-together and to enjoy an excellent meal with professional and attentive service. On Saturday evening it was just about full, so it was a little noisy at times, but we sat on the side near the rear of the restaurant so we have no complaints. We could hear each other talking, which is always a challenge in a restaurant. All in all, we had a delightful evening with wonderful and delicious food.
Service was not good or friendly at all, our server was actually quite rude and the manager didn't seem to care when told about it. The food was just ok, basic fare like eggs Benedict,m was bland and overpriced,m: $25 for eggs Benedict and a watered down cocktail.
