About Permanently Closed - Bistro Capri
This restaurant is permanently closed.
Bistro Capri is a classic Italian restaurant. The restaurant is named after the Italian city of Capri and it takes many other inspirations for the city in addition to just its name. The decor of the restaurant is an homage to the tiny Italian city, with plenty of pictures and paintings hanging throughout the dining room that are either of the city of Capri or are in the style of its artists.
Bistro Capri's menu is full of classic Italian fare. Appetizers include brussel sprout chips, artichoke hearts, cornmeal dusted calamari, Prince Edward mussels, imported grilled octopus and a Capri meatball served with fresh ricotta and pomodoro. Entrée sections are divided into salads, soups, pizza, fish, meat, poultry and carpaccio. Bistro Capri's most popular dishes include the braised lamb shank, roasted eggplant ravioli, chicken marsala, herb crusted filet mignon and a six hour braised short rib.

Bistro Capri - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
We were a table of 4 and we ordered four appetizers as well as four appetizers as our main courses .
Two appetizers were brought out and then a third, which we didn't order. After much explaining that we did not order the calamari they took it away but then brought it back and told us we could keep it and would not be charged, however we were still missing two appetizers.
Upon serving the main courses they served me my appetizer(salad) at the same time and one of my friends never gets her appetizer at all. After expressing our dissatisfaction the server and management seemed confused and annoyed.
Upon ordering dessert all the items arrived but were placed in front of the wrong person.
There does not seem to be any experienced management in this establishment .
I have been here three or four times and the level of service is not one of a well -run ship.
The staff was not aware of a reservation and to be honest we did not need one. Also the menu on line was larger then when we arrived. Food was ok but what you order off the menu is not what you receive. Prices are high for the quality of the food and I would not tell anyone to go here. The only good thing I can say is the staff is friendly.
Should've read the reviews before making the reservation; but it was right next to Bergen PAC where we were seeing a show at 8pm. Can't comment on the food because we didn't get that far. Service was beyond awful, amateurish is a better description. Busboy doing shots at the bar and prancing around the restaurant trying to help but inept. Seated at 6:30 at 7:15, after asking, the waiter finally came over to take our order (never even got drinks). We asked if we would get our food in time to make the 8pm show and he said, "No way!" - we left and had a great dinner around the corner at U Pie!
It was such a horrible experience. There were enough waitstaff to handle the not full restaurant but they were so slow and inexperienced it was a form of torture. It took ages to get our drink order in and they didn't have the Pinot Grigio that was on the wine list and the only one they had was undrinkable. We had to ask for our dinner order to be taken ~ from an extremely limited menu; my daughter wanted the scallops that were on their website but no ... they hadn't updated the site and scallops weren't available. The three of us shared two orders of the shrimp and cannelloni beans as our appetizer and after a couple of mouthfuls we put our forks down, agreeing that it was awful. We had ordered another round of drinks fifteen minutes before the appetizer and as they still hadn't arrived we finally flagged out waiter and told him to cancel the drinks and entrees and to bring the check. Definitely not returning.
Unadvertised re-opening on 9/16 made for a chaotic experience where EVERYTHING was wrong.
Waited 1/2 hr for cocktail order, had to go to bar to get it. Our server couldnt have been less invested in his job. Poor/slow service, wrong drinks, wrong food, incorrect bill. Very limited menu yet one item (pizza) not available which is odd since the new menu for the opening was very limited. The restaurant fixed that, however, by ordering pizza from a local pizza place and had it delivered, thru the front door, to the kitchen; kid you not. this was previously a good place to enjoy a meal before attending BergenPac. However, stay clear - at least until the kinks get worked out (if ever). Truly one of the worst dining experiences in our memory.
A Total Mess -had 6:30 reservations prior to a concert at the PAC. Arrived on time but had to wait 5 minutes for the hostess to approach and seat us. Hostess never bothered to give us menu's so after another wait we had to flag down a waitress to get menu's and to find that no waiter had been assigned to our table. Another long wait and we finally get a waitress. We place our order and mention we are there to dine prior to the concert which starts @ 8:00. The place is packed and the staff are scurrying around but many tables are not being served. We place a simple order of an appetizer a salad and two salmon dinners. We opt to not drink and have water instead. 40 minutes later and we still haven't seen our appetizers. Had to run down the waitress to get us more water!!! uggh!! Patrons are complaining to the staff and poorly prepared food is being sent back to the kitchen. We complain to our waitress to find out that the chef didn't show up and the bartender called in sick. We make it clear we have a show to catch and need our food ASAP. Appetizer arrives long overdue but tastes fine. After another wait 1 salmon dinner arrives. When we say we ordered two salmon's the waiter returns with an empty plate for us to share the dinner. We again complain to the waitress who goes to the kitchen to find that the staff screwed up the order. Needless to say we were not happy. We demanded to speak to the manager, who after extensive complaining on our part agreed to compliment us the appetizer. Wow -what a gesture. Any smart manager would have taken 50% off the bill or comp'd us entirely. We had also mentioned that we had been there before on numerous occasions and were seriously considering never returning. The place was also much louder than usual probably because no one was eating and had nothing else to do but make noise. All in all an aggravating experience. Avoid this place at all costs. At least "Chicago" put on an awesome show - so the night wasn't a total disaster!
We went to Cafe Bistro before a show at Bergen PAC. It was only 2 doors away, which is the best I can say for this restaurant..the convenience. We had to wait 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged we were there, and we were 3 different parties. Another 10 minutes before our waitress came over to our table. Our reservation was for 6 and our show was at 8 o'clock. We weren't served til 7:05. Food was pretty good, but the aggravation of having to wait so long was not worth it. It was obvious that they were not prepared for the number of diners, most of which were going to the show.
The owner should have extra servers on busy show nights.
This was the worst service we have ever encountered. When I went to the ladies' room, everyone was complaining about the lack of service. It took 30 minutes to get our drink order, and an hour to get our food. There were not enough wait staff for a completely filled room. Tables were extremely close together, and the noise level was terrible. The table next to us also complained to us about the service. We would never return. When it was "Solaia," the service and food were good.
The overall experience was mediocre at best. Penne Vodka - underwhelmed - vodka sauce could have been out of a jar. My dining partner liked but did not love the ravioli. Their signature meatballs - under-flavored and overpriced - especially for the 3 tiniest meatballs you will ever see.
The waiter was nice and attentive at first but then got busy and we had to flag down an unhappy manager to pay the bill.
The place is loud - not "energetic".
Do not understand those reviewers that praised the food. That was certainly not our experience.
There are so many creative chefs out there - don't settle just because it is convenient to Bergen PAC.
Last minute reservation before show at Bergen PAC... Food was plentiful, allowed us time to chat and enough time to be served prior to the show... Service/staff was polite and courteous...
Will be returning whether or not attending show at PAC...!! Prices are slightly like NYC prices but we're in Englewood NJ...but worth it!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
Our evening here started with a less than friendly welcome from the Maitre D', and slow service. From that start, we were not expecting much from our dinner. To our great surprise, the food (both presentation and flavors) was excellent. I'm sorry that I cannot give a better overall review, however, the service from several staff was underwhelming. The bar-tender was responsive and helpful -- thank you. One of the waitresses (not the one assigned to our table) was also helpful to our needs. It took 3 requests to get our bill!!
We were the only people in the restaurant for most of our lunch, but still the service was poor. We weren't told about the special which was on the website, but they did honor it. The salad would have been good if it were fresh. The entrees were ok. The bread pudding was good.
The one appealing feature of Bistro Capri, under the same ownership as its predecessor, Solaia, is its proximity to Bergen PAC. The menu is not dramatically different and the food is no better, with risotto pre cooked and rewarmed and with pasta unmemorable. Wines by the glass are notably undistinguished as well. The cannoli, however, provided a delightful conclusion to an otherwise mediocre meal.
This restaurant is right next door to the Bergen PAC in Englewood, NJ, and so it is very convenient to eat there and then walk next door to a show. Since parking can be a problem at Bergen PAC, it is nice to be able to park early. For this reason, we might go to Bistro Capri again. But everything else about the place is just OK, except that the service was not very good at all. They need to have fewer tables per wait staff at busy times, like just before a show. And some of the prices were too much for the quality of the food and drink.
Great food, amazing service!!!
All courses deserve to be prazed.
Very surprised that it's not recognized by the community. We dined at other neighborhoods restaurants that can not even compare with Bistro Capri's food and service, but they are full of people and it was very hard to obtaine reservation there.
Thank you Capri, will definitely come back and tell my friends.
We arrived and it took a long time to greet us and eventually seat us.
We then waited 15 minutes fir the waitress. We asked 5 times for a glass of ice for our drinks.
Wanted to order pizza but were told it would take 45 minutes and we were headed to a show. Order two appetizers and then 20 minutes later ordered our entree. The salad and entree arrived and the appetizers never arrived. When an inquiry was made the waitress made an excuse and then a few minutes later the appetizers arrived. The crochets were cooked in old oil and had no taste. We also ordered muscles and they smelled like old fish. We returned the muscles and they did not charge us.
This was one of the worst restaurants i have ever visited.
I would discourage anyone from dining here.
We went to Bistro Capri for a pre-show dinner as it was very convenient to Bergen PAC. It was a nice night and we were able to sit outside. We asked our waiter if there were any specials and he said no. After we ordered we heard another waitress telling the table near us what the specials were. We ordered a shrimp and pasta dish and a seafood paella. We felt both were somewhat overpriced and did not have a great deal of flavor.
The service was terrible. It took them 30 minutes and three tries to get my husband's drink right. And it was a basic drink! We heard servers apologizing at all of the surrounding tables as well.
Food was very good except steak tartare too salty. Fun place and definitely convenient if you are going to Bergen PAC. Hope they will improve their horrible services issues.
BAIT AND SWITCH
YOU ENTER THE RESTAURANT AND YOU SEE A NICE PLACE, WHITE LINEN TABLECLOTHS
THEN THEY SAT ME ON THE SIDE WHICH WAS A SPORTS BAR ATMOSPHERE WITH BASKETBALL GAMES ON TV, SAME MENU BUT COMPLETELY DIFFERENT SURROUNDINGS
IF I WANTED TO HAVE DINNER AT A SPORTS BAR THEN I WOULD HAVE MADE RESERVATIONS AT ONE
FOOD WAS NOT TOO GOOD EITHER.
we were a party of 7 and had excellent service and a very attentive waitress. the food was excellent. we had tickets for a show at the bergen Pac so timing was very important, we were able to eat and made the show without a problem. we even returned back to your place for dessert.
